By the end of the day I was told it would have to be Sunday instead. This created some significant problems but I was willing to work with them. On Sunday, I was told it was going to have to be moved to Tuesday. It just so happened that I was going to be out of town on Tuesday and couldn't receive the second part of the move. I was told that would be rescheduled at my convenience. The bulk of the move did actually happen on Tuesday. When the day came for the second part of the move to happen, which was only a bed and a grandfather clock, I got put off again, from Saturday to Sunday. And on Sunday, right at the end of the agreed-upon window, I got a call asking for more money to complete the job. I was informed that because of my inability to receive the second part of the move on Tuesday, I was going to have to pay more. No matter that I was available to receive it Saturday, Sunday, and even Monday if that had been an option. The delay was not due to any action on my part and was actually very stressful for me. Yet I was at fault for not being available on Tuesday at the second location. My big mistake was not reading enough reviews before hiring this company. Although they have some good reviews, and I have no doubt they can do a good job, several other people have reported having issues similar to what I experienced. Had I seen those accounts I probably would have looked for someone else to do the move. I do not recommend this company for your moving needs.

Here is our story: Our family had a very disappointing experience with "Community Moving" while relocating my elderly parents closer to us in Lexington, Virginia. What was supposed to be a carefully planned move for two elderly parents instead became a stressful and chaotic experience that left us dealing with damaged belongings and days of additional work to sort through improperly packed boxes. We chose this company not only because it is owned by veterans, but because of the company's mission and values. These meant a great deal to my family. This was not a typical move. My dad is retired military and this is their 17th and final move. My parents are now both in their 80s, and the relocation was meant to bring them into a safer home where we could help care for them. Because of that, we spent a great deal of time speaking with the company beforehand about the size of the move and the need for careful handling of antiques, heirlooms, and fragile items. We also provided photos and videos of the home so the estimate could be as accurate as possible. Despite those preparations, the move itself was far more chaotic than we expected. The truck plan changed shortly before the move, and later, additional trucks and packing materials had to be acquired by the company. Packing did not match what we had discussed ahead of time. Some fragile items and antiques were packed in ways that caused damage, and several pieces of furniture and household items arrived broken, stress fractured and in poor condition. The labeling of boxes was also inconsistent, which made unpacking extremely difficult. Many boxes contained mixed items from different rooms or had little description of the room or contents, which meant nearly every box had to be opened and sorted before anything could be put away. Because of the condition of the packing and delivery, we had to spend several additional days reorganizing the house with the help of friends and family. This was particularly challenging given my parents' age and health, and it added significant stress during what was already an emotional transition. We did communicate our concerns to management and provided documentation, photos and videos of the issues we discovered during unpacking. While conversations took place, the outcome did not fully resolve the situation for our family. This review reflects our family's direct experience with this move and the condition of items as they were unpacked. Moving elderly parents and transporting a lifetime of belongings requires careful planning, clear communication, and attention to detail. Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend that anyone planning a large or complex move ask very detailed questions about packing methods, labeling procedures, and truck capacity before choosing a moving company. We did, but "Community Moving" fell short of our expectation. At present time, we are waiting on some resolutions with the company. This was my third time using their service to move a 1B1B apartment. The first two times went fine…read more-- each took about 3 to 3.5 hours, and that's why I trusted them again. But this time? Total disaster. They charged me almost 8 HOURS for the exact same size move. From 9 AM to 4:45 PM -- are you kidding me? They didn't even start moving until around 9:20 or 9:30, and then moved like they were taking a casual stroll in the park. I asked them why this time was so ridiculously slow compared to the last two. Their excuse? "No elevator" at my old place and "your stuff is in small boxes and bags." That is complete nonsense. My new place has an elevator, and I used larger boxes this time to make it easier -- unlike the last move where neither location had elevators. And yet, that move only took 3.5 hours. There is no possible reason this one should take nearly EIGHT HOURS unless you're deliberately dragging your feet. And get this -- I even helped them move! I literally carried stuff myself while they moved slowly and inefficiently. When I brought this up to their supervisor, instead of acknowledging the poor service, he blamed me and said I had "too many things." Give me a break. It's a 1B1B -- and you guys have moved it twice before in half the time! I even attached a photo comparing the invoices from both moves -- one was 3.5 hours, this one nearly 8. Their supervisor had the audacity to say he'd refund me for 1 hour if I didn't leave a bad review -- that tells you everything you need to know. He knew it was shady but just wanted to shut me up. I had the worst experience with MGMC. I would not recommend them to anyone, not even my worst…read moreenemy. Mike is a businessman who does not care about his customer's satisfaction or experience. He denied that his movers were slacking - saying they were two of his best guys; however, after hitting and damaging my fence with the moving truck, the guy who was driving tried to plead with me not to tell Mike because he already had about 3 incidents and would probably be fired. So much for sending his best guys! I had already ignored the fact that they arrived an hour late. ​​​​​​​​​​​​ I personally watched them pause several times to fold moving blankets, one guy stopped because a previous 2" wound on his forearm busted open and started bleeding, so he asked me for paper towels before he used a towel he found in the truck to tie around his arm. Oh, and I cannot forget to mention they stopped at 7-11 to get something to drink (all counted in my hourly time I paid for). I was charged for a 3-1/2  hour job) for them to move everything from my 10x10 storage unit, which is physically less than 6 miles away from my new home. I even grabbed a dolly and started loading at the storage and then helped unload the truck at my house. The two guys Mike sent to move my 10x10 storage were not as professional as I anticipated from our phone conversation when I scheduled. From the guy who was shorter and injured cursing at the other guy who seemed to have a cigarette every chance he got, to stopping at 7-11 to get Big Gulp drinks which they left along with a bunch of plastic stretch wrap that had been in the back of their moving truck from a previous move, and they conveniently placed it  on my old desk I put on the curb for trash. I have pictures of the damages and the trash left behind. I am very disappointed and to top it off frustrated with the fact that they hit my fence with the moving truck. My wall unit was also broken during the move and one of the drivers brought a piece of the footing that allows it to stand balanced before they drove off. After getting such unprofessional and poor service from MGMC, Mike tops it off by sending "his fence guy" to do some tacky patchwork on my fence while I was not even home. He didn't even call to make me aware and confirm that someone would be coming like I asked. Save yourself the frustration and go with another moving company. The 3 year old 5 Star Reviews are clearly outdated!
