My son started here in Kindergarten because of my parents. I took him out in the 2nd semester of 2nd grade because I figured there wouldn't be much difference if i sent him to a Public Charter school (to save some tuition money) this was the worst decision ever. My son turned into a completely different child in a matter of months. I reached back out to First Baptist begging them if my son could return immediately. The school accepted him even with only 10weeks left of school. Within 2 weeks, my son was a child of GREAT character and elite academics again. We love this school. Our kids are currently attending 9th grade, 7th grade and 2nd grade. The teachers are dedicated to learning about your child and how they learn. They seek out opportunities of growth for your child and they discipline behavior that breaks the rules of the school. We love the biblical world view that is taught and we are supported as parents trying to raise our kids in society today to have a firm foundation of Faith in Jesus. read more

This is a review on both First Baptist School and the staff which is run by members of the church. I (of no choice of my own) went to FBS Rosemount from 2002-2009 which was around 7th grade to 12th grade. Here are some of my experiences there. Many of the church staff members taught classes there at that time. Often times many of the high school teachers were so busy working on church matters that they did not show up for class. For example: My teacher for Spanish was the Spanish pastor. For most of the classes that I had with him, he would not even show up and we would just self study which means we would usually just goof off(cause we were teenagers). We had to attend multiple weekly chapel services which were very similar in likeness to a baptist church service. In one of the chapel services they passed around a rose for everyone to touch while the speaker was speaking, and concluded with if you have sex before marriage you will be like this dirty rose. Abstinence education has proven over many studies to be ineffective. It does not prevent STD's and teen pregnancies. Actually two of my close friends who attended FBS with me were pregnant and of course kicked out of school before their senior year. Their disciplinary measures are also outdated and exclusionary. If you do not completely adopt and follow the extreme religious ideals that they teach you, you will eventually be stigmatized and removed. My band teacher at that time would also spend an increasing amount of time in his private office with one student who was in a younger grade than me. A few years after that student graduated, she reported that teacher for statutory raping her multiple times on school property. The church did not do anything on the matter. They sweep it quietly under the rug and the band teacher resigned and moved away. No law enforcement was involved, and the church just gossiped about it and moved on. In my opinion, I feel that the church did not want to tarnish the name of their school and that is why they did not inform law enforcement. At my time there, I never once had access to any mental health services outside of counseling where I can be told I am a sinner, to do better and God will forgive me. The school also did not have any programs for people with disabilities. In conclusion, I feel that the education that FBS Rosemount "provides" is unacceptable. This school should not be allowed to open its doors every day. It brings light to the issue of the freedom private schools have in the US to teach whatever they want, whether or not it's actually beneficial to learning. read more

Extreme indoctrination propaganda machine. Generally filled with good people and good curriculum, though. Unfortunately, that is far from the primary focus. I am not referring to generalized Christian values being pressed, which is to be expected -- but severe cultural extremism and strict adherence to the parent church's interpretation of scripture. This school purports to teach Christian values but lacks the comparative theology lessons needed to create critical and independently thinking alumni. Students are indoctrinated and taught to axiomatically view those who proffer an alternative viewpoint as wrong. While the teachers mean well and are friendly, most (if not all) received their degrees from non-accredited, non-university institutions. The academic curriculum is reasonable from Kindergarten through the fifth grade, but their secondary curriculum is woefully inadequate (I'm not sure they even teach calculus, foreign languages, advanced physics, etc.). Their curriculum does, however, excel at teaching elementary English grammar and spelling. Nevertheless, if your goal is to ultimately send your child to a top tier or elite university (a requirement for medical school, law school, business school, pharmacy school, etc. thereafter), I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere. Simply request to see the average SAT or ACT scores of past classes or request to see how many of their alumni proceeded to receive a postgraduate education from an accredited university to make your decision. In sum, kindergarten through fifth grade will teach good values and excellent elementary grammar and spelling skills, but the secondary curriculum lags behind in the STEM subjects required for admission to a top tier university. You must also ensure that the values taught at school are tempered at home by teaching critical reasoning skills and an open mind. read more

One of the worst school I ever seen. My son was singled out from going to field trip because we didn't sell fundraising candy $75.00 or donated $75.00. Donations is voluntary not obligations. A- they cancelled class for an even that is not inclusive. Rewarding those who sold shouldn't be on school day. B- they are singling out students who didn't meet the $75. Big deal that he is missing MOA- but very disappointing that a church decided to leave behind for those who are financially incapable. C- is it a child fault for not selling?? No, last time I check a 4 year old don't have bank account to spend on donations. No child should be left out specially at church. D- Principle can't even sit down and talk the issue. I don't understand the other reviews. First Baptist School currently has 235 students from about 125 families. The main reason people put their children in our school is for the teaching of a Biblical worldview. If one does not believe in God, then sure, it is not the place for them. The academics are very high, most students test about 2 grades higher than the public schools and the ACT scores are higher than District 196, the highest in the state. They do not have all the technology nor can afford to offer all the extracurricular activities that some other schools can. The staff model a Christ-like spirit. Yes, there are rules, as there are in any school, workplace, or group of people, but the rules are there to govern the activities of the school day and are not forced upon the families on their own. My students attend this school, and I am very happy that they do so. If you could talk to the families that do send their kids to the school, I think you would find a very supportive spirit. read more

I went to school (FBS) there one year, back in 1985. I was in 1st grade and Darlene Christison was my teacher. The principal was Jerry Kolwinska. The school was very legalistic. Mrs. Christison would smack my knuckles with a ruler for not answering arithmetic questions correctly. During lunch time we were not aloud to speak. Girls wore dresses only and boys only wore slacks or corduroys. Being as legalistic as they were, as a school they hurt both believers and nonbelievers. At that time the school's focus was a list do's & don'ts that they lived by. People who live by do's & don'ts ask things like "what if we do this", "what if we don't do this" their focus is on sinning. They didn't seem to have a correct understanding of grace, which they could have used a huge dose of it. Having a correct understanding of grace changes our focus from sin to the Savior. As long as we focus on our failures (sin) we run the danger of reliving the past over and over again. Focusing on our Savior cause are "works" to be in line consistently with God's greatest commandments (Matt. 22:37-40). Being in love with the Savior makes us want to honor Him in all the we say and do. That means to live His righteousness out in our lives. (Romans 5:15-21 NKJV). read more
