If you are looking for kindness and warmth, this is not the place to go. I was a guest in their church, walked in the front doors and no one acknowledged me. I picked up an order of service and sat in the back row. No one greeted me at all. At the passing of peace the only person to shake my hand was the presiding minister. No one around me even acknowledged my presence. At the end of the service I walked out and no one said anything to me then either. I have found most Episcopal churches to be welcoming, however I have not found Grace Episcopal church to be warm, inviting or welcoming at all to newcomers and guests. I won't be back. I'll find another church.

After about a year, we decided to try it again. It was as though we had never left. That sealed the deal for us. Grace is a progressive congregation. It is truly welcoming to all. It is heavily involved in feeding ministries and social justice. The congregation feeds people weekly through Micah ministries and operates a food pantry several times per week. The rector has been widely recognized for her work on social justice issues. If you're looking for a church, this is definitely a place to check out. If you're unsure about religion, give it a try. You'll find a community that cares about you and celebrates you for the person you are.

Confusing signage, locked doors everywhere. Would have loved to check it out but no way open or in (despite signs telling me to use the locked doors) and no one around to help. I don't attend one, but I love cathedrals. I can describe it as breathtaking. You park in the gated lot, and go around to the side, which I think is the main entrance. Then I went into the sanctuary. Oh my. I've been to several cathedrals in my traveling, even the large St. Francis of Assisi in Santa Fe, NM. They strike my curiosity. The castle like interior, and the stone exterior with towers and black wrought iron brings one back to a different time period. That's cause this cathedral has been in KC since 1870...I'm not a cathedral geek, I read it in the brochure.The inside of the sanctuary has pews that are wooden and sound creeky. They are old and smell of cedar. The stage, well, I guess it's the pulpit area, is lavish with wrought iron decorating the top of center of the stage. It looks like an open wrought iron gate. Really, it's difficult to describe. It's a not miss, even if you don't attend church, just go inside and look at the sanctuary. I don't know the hours, but it's a definite destination for anyone traveling to Kansas City. It's huge. And the sound system was right on. The stained glass is out standing. They have an art show going on, called Tranformations. The organ music is grand, just grand. So I suggest taking a trip to visit this cathedral just once. It's gorgeous, and breath taking.

The…read morechurch is welcoming to all, reaching out to the community with feeding programs for children and youth via backpacks, and the congregation is friendly and welcoming. Everyone seems involved and we have made friends rather easily. The pastor knows everyone and is a good preacher, lives his faith and teaches bible study. He is a great encourager of your faith and starting new ministries. He makes sure you are doing well within the congregation. His wife is a great asset to the church as well. The church also has a lovely vegetable garden and orchard to harvest in summer and fall. My grandkids love that. Really am happy since joining 5 months ago

We have been looking for a home church since moving to the Kansas City area. This Sunday, we…read moredecided to visit the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd. The Church is beautiful with warm wood and nice stained glass windows. I liked the warmth of the congregation. After the service, we were immediately welcomed by several people. During the sharing of the peace, the priest made an effort to welcome most, if not all, of the congregants and after the service recognized that we were new to the community. He invited us to sign the guest book and to stay for coffee hour and to meet some of the congregants. Several people came up to us during coffee hour and introduced themselves and seemed to take a genuine interest in us as well. It was great meeting other people who relocated to Kansas City from other parts of the country. The coffee hour was held in the lobby and it was a bit crowded for the number of people, but all-in-all it seemed to work out OK. Music was emphasized during the service. Music was used to present the psalm as well as parts of the liturgy. The homily was delivered by a guest, so I'm not sure how it compares to what is typically delivered in this church. The guest was a self-described radical, liberal theologian. The service lasted just over an hour - we spent an hour and a half at the church, including the coffee hour. We're going to continue exploring the area, but I thought the Church of the Good Shepherd was a wonderful option.
