Looking towards doing something different this Thanks Giving, I called up the Church office the…read moreprevious day to see if they would like any volunteers for the free Thanksgiving Day Meal. They were thrilled, so I ventured 30 minutes away to the town of Peru Il to report for duty. I arrived at about 11 where just completing the prep work and let me tell you this was not a cheep and lazy spread no way! It was intense, white meat dark meat, stuffing mashed potatoes green bean cranberries pie's you name it. The quality of the food was better than you get at most restaurants. The staff on hand was awesome very nice and very polite from all walks of life it was like a ethnic casserole in there, I even stopped in for last 10 minutes of service Rev. David Heidemann has a good strong voice perfect for projecting across the chapel I personally think he could get by with out a microphone. On to serving the food, I was toward the front and issued out white meat (the most popular) and we had a line going down to the sides and deserts, I was surprised I really thought it was going to be a thing for the poor, it was more community, People from the church, people with no where else to go and even a few family's took up some of the larger tables. it was really and event for everyone, a few people come in to pick up carry outs for the hospital and for people who where unable to make it out on there own which was a rewarding experience knowing that because this was going people who would of had nothing due to hospitalization or other restrictions were going to enjoy a good high quality meal. If your from the area check this church, out even if your not religious you can help out with there community involvement, or if you could use it stop in and take advantage of there community involvement.
