I have a stubborn purebred 1 year old German Shepherd. She knows basic commands but would be "all that" and wouldn't listen to me, it was more she made me listen to her! Hector went above and beyond, applying her obedience in about 45 minutes! She learned on and off leash commands and she listens to me now. I was in shock and still am! Now I have the perfect dog I've been waiting for. He really knows his stuff and works to control and understand what is going on in your dogs' heads. 10/10 recommend!! Thanks Hector! read more

We signed up for a One On One with Hector with our 6 month old golden retriever in October 2021, for the issues of leash pulling, jumping, and getting along with our 7 year old golden. It did not take long to change the puppy's actions. She listens to commands, we utilized his "tape roll" idea and if she acts up, we throw the tape at her back end and she responds accordingly. As she grows, she is getting along with our 7 year old. We still need to work on the leash pulling and will be going back for a refresher and or another one on one after the first of the year. The investment made to Hector and his training techniques is well worth the time and money. He has a way with the animals that no one can get the results that the owner is looking for. Highly recommended. He commands attention from the dog during the training period and then has the owners practice in front of him to ensure that both owner and dog have the respect of each other and get the results. I've had many dogs and many trainers in my lifetime and I can attest to the fact that Hector Hernandez of First class Dog Training is the best. He's truly a dog whisperer - and can read your dog and help you to train him properly. He's not only technically the best, but Hector is good natured and the class is fun. I've been to another well known trainer and dog breeder in this area and their lead trainer/owner is unpleasant and you can't wait for the class to be over. As he puts it, Hector spends more time training the owner than the dog. He wrote two training books and has numerous videos on you tube. He will see you privately for problems he can't handle in class. Hector is the greatest and I regret the money I put into the more well known trainer. read more

Hector Hernandez is "the best" at "reading" dogs. I took my five year old rescue Chug to him for a two hour private session recently. He showed me how to calm her sensitivity which was causing her general anxiety. She was an abused dog who I recently adopted. She was desperate to be loved, but she was so afraid of people, even me, with whom she had been living for a month. I could not even touch her without her yelping or let me put a leash on her to go outside to do her duty without extreme effort. After our two hour session, those behaviors are non-existent. We are developing a trusting relationship in all aspects of our life together. Thank you so very much Hector! I will be forever grateful! read more

We got our first family dog from a friend who had a dairy farm. He's a mixed breed, basically a cattle dog with black lab. Between his energy and his willful behavior (I guess that's what you need to boss around cows), he was a handful. We signed up for Hector's classes the first summer and have had our dog in three other times - what a difference! Hector really understands dogs and knows how to convey insights to the owners as well. He is the best trainer I've ever met. Since our first experience, I have recommended Hector to several friends - all with fantastic results. We have a 9 month old male German Shepard. One day my 24 year old daughter was cleaning up a toy that he had shredded and he bit her multiple times on her arms - 11 punctures on the left and 7 on the right. I've had many dogs in my life and I was not comfortable with a dog that turns on their owner; I was ready to have the dog euthanized. At the bequest of the breeder, I called Hector late on a Friday afternoon. Hector drove for over an hour to come to my house to see the environment that caused the Shepard to react and bite my daughter. Hector not only was training the dog, but training the owners - he would explain his actions before stimulating the dog and each time correctly predicting the dog's response. In the end, I would highly recommend Hector to anyone with a dog; his teaching is both for the dog and the owners. read more

I wanted to take my puppy for obedience training to someone who didn't rely on treats and rewards for helping dogs learn. A friend recommended Hector and I was very happy with the class I took. Hector is an expert at reading dogs and individualizing instruction based on each dog. Being a teacher myself, I know how important it is to do that and he's great at it. The class was fun for both the dogs and the people. My dog already is doing new things and I am practicing what we learned. He lets people come back for free for one year so you can practice as much as you want. I would highly recommend this course to anyone. read more

What a fabulous experience we had today! I am so happy we drove to see Hector at First Class Dog training! This was more than with the time, gas, and fee for service! Today we took our recently adopted shelter dog to see Hector Hernandez. My husband was pretty skeptical that any amount of training would help our yorkie/ silky terrier behave. However, he was blown away by the effectiveness of the 1 hour private session we had. We also stayed at the facility for the group session to we could practice our newly trained dog in the company of other dogs. My husband and I took turns practicing the training so that we could practice consistancy. Our children also took turns leading Gus in the exercises of healing, sitting, staying, and going into a down position. I was impressed by Hector's positive nature, attentiveness and understanding the idiosyncrasies that make up a dog's nature. I am quite pleased he worked with Gus and would absolutely recommend him to anyone! In the class format there were a variety of dogs, from puppy to elderly, and breeds from toy to huge! Hector was attentive to all clients and dogs! I'm planning on reading the book Hector wrote to follow up with obedience at home! We live 6 hours away ( in Bloomington, IN) so we will not be able to follow up with multiple sessions! read more

This review is based off my personal experience with Hector and his dog training/basic obedience class. I took my Pitbull puppy to Hector because on his website he says he specializes in aggressive/reactive dogs. On the first day of class, before we did anything, Hector unexpectedly dragged my dog away from me by her leash to "test her temperament" (although he did this to no other dog in class) and when she got scared and bite his arm sleeve he proceeded to tell me that she was a lost cause and that I should just put her down, she was 8 months old at the time. This obviously terrified my dog and she anal gland secreted and peed on herself and was too scared to go anywhere near him the rest of class. A year later my dog has no reaction problems, she has never bitten a person or another dog and she is the most obedient dog Ive ever own. This was from my own patients and personal training with her, no other class or professionals. If I would have been someone easily scared by what Hector said or ignorant of what a Pitbull can do, I would have put down a perfectly capable dog who needed nothing but some time and patients. In my opinion and from my experience, Hector is ignorant towards Pitbulls or Bully breed dogs and is not comfortable with reactive/aggressive dogs like his website says. I am sharing what happened to me and my dog solely for the Pitbull or other like dog owner thinking of going to him for help with reactive/aggression issues; I would advise against it. There are much better places in Michigan with the experience and knowledge about these dogs and wont tell you your dog is a lost cause before even giving them a chance. Detroit Bull Corps is a much better option. read more
