This review concerns the beautiful architecture and truly welcoming staff we encountered when attending a concert here last evening. They were helpful in acquainting everyone with seating for this new venue for Musica Angelica. I might single out Eric for his very kind thoughtfulness which I have no doubt is the norm for all. Sincere smiling faces increase the charm of this historic treasure. I hope my photos demonstrate the charm of this historic Long Beach institution.

Beautiful church and the csulb winter concert was amazing! Who knew they have been hosting it for over 20 years. This was my first one and I recommend it highly.

"For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them." (Matt. 18:20) I don't go to church often enough, I confess. A couple whose wedding I recently stood up in, invited me. I was all warm and cozy in my bed, not wanting to get up, much less sit on a hard bench for an hour. The Easter Bunny didn't leave me a colorful basket with lots of chocolate eggs, so I decided to get moving. Just showing up at church is an act of worship when you don't really want to go. This church is beautiful and the parishioners were more than welcoming. The Choir performance was professional level. Every time they sang my soul was akin to a freshly cleaned linen being shook out by angels to dry in the bright sunshine. Totally renewed my inner vibe. I quite enjoyed the stimulating sermon and ornamental spring Easter lilies among believers with a common inspiration. When I leave church I'm a whole lot better at doing small everyday things for others and I take the "me" out of the equation for awhile. I'm not bothered much if others think I'm different or strange, I already know that - but I have faith that I'm not alone. "If God is for us, who is against us?" (Romans 8:31)

I attended rehearsal and wedding ceremonies at First Congregational Church last weekend. The interior felt enormous with extremely high ceilings, pretty stained glass, and huge organ pipes. The pews were clean and plentiful - there was also seating available on the upper level. Great venue for the Christian ceremony.

This is an AMAZING church with Loving people who really care for each other, and accept everyone wherever they are on Life's journey. If you are looking to fill that void inside that you keep ignoring, give the people and this place a chance. They are loving and kind and accepting of ALL. Oh, and on a side note...the music is incomparable.

    Such a beautiful view.

Pastor Matt was so bold to take the church on a harmful, meandering road where he intermixed politics and religion, like how a lot of evangelical churches are becoming. It started when he invited Kirk Cameron in April 2024. That was a big mistake, for people who have never stepped foot in a Christian church. Kirk Cameron gave a sermon about Guthrem and the Vikings, which was so difficult to sit through considering it was a dense history lesson about the Vikings and faith, that just got lost in the sauce. Kirk Cameron is a right wing evangelical that has a bias towards promoting extreme right wing propaganda. Fast forward to September 2024, Matt started a series, "Bible and the Ballot," and as educated and open-minded that I consider myself and my husband to be, we just couldn't sit through the series. Matt was quick to demonize anyone who didn't support Trump and used the bible to justify his one-sided political stances (VERY HARMFUL). I was deeply bothered but chose to ignore it, as my children loved going to their kids Sunday school class. The straw that broke the camel's back was in June 6, 2025, the weekend that the ICE raids took place in Paramount which caused a domino effect in creating protests by surrounding communities in fighting against all the inhumane actions by ICE and the CBP. The next day at church, I was hoping for Matt to give space for people in the congregation to feel seen, loved and accepted, but instead he completely missed a perfect opportunity to offer a special prayer for all those effected by the ICE raids. Again, I was disappointed and hurt by how he selects when to speak up for causes that align with his political views. The deepest insult was when Matt equated illegal immigration to getting a DUI. He mentioned that if he broke the law in getting a DUI, he needs to pay the price, the same way that people who immigrate illegally are held to the law. Are you kidding me?!!!!!!! My husband and I decided to leave the church altogether because as a person of color, and a daughter of an immigrant, I feel that attending a church that doesn't align with my core Christian values about loving foreigners, and those who are disenfranchised is unacceptable. I don't care what political party the person next to me in church aligns with, or the Pastor identifies with, but I will ALWAYS draw the line and when cultural, racial and social injustices are overlooked. Matt does nothing to bridge the hurt, pain and division. As a pastor, leading a church should be focused on preaching about how one can grow in their faith, and be encouraged to show love & kindness towards ALL regardless of country of origin. Keep politics and division out of church at all costs!
