(I have no doubt the cafe is excellent, as the reviews here confirm.) The sales staff was absolutely top-notch, and while the staff person was busy identifying several of the books by John Berger that were available, he and I had a nice conversation about Berger. As it turns out, London Review was involved in the publication of one of Berger's recent books, so of course they had it in stock. A truly superb bookshop, for new books, stocked with a highly discerning eye.

My friend Sharon brought me here and she is an avid reader. If you love interesting books, this is a treasure trove with books covering a whole multitude of subjects. The staff are excellent at recommending and finding specific books for you There's a little cafe next door to the bookshop - reading can induce an appetitie, don't you know? We snagged one of the little tables and went for alternatives to the disappointingly absent carrot cake. We chose the intriguing courgette and lemon curd cake as well as the mixed berry cheesecake The courgette and lemon curd cake was great - a subtle hint of courgette so as not to be too vegetabley but lovely and moist with more dominant lemon flavour. The mixed berry cheesecake was nice but more conventional Sharon was intrigued enough to try and recreate the courgette cake at home, always a sign of a good dish. I love Waterstones book stores. This shop on Kensington High street opened a few years ago after…read moremoving down the street. This is not a large store as compared to others in London (such as Piccadilly) but I can generally find what I need. The employees are usually very helpful. London is currently in Tier 4 Lockdown (all non-essential shops are closed) just days before Christmas. Waterstones has joined other merchants in a "Click & Collect" in which you can order what you need on-line; they confirm the inventory and purchase with an email; they call for payment information; and then you pickup. I've actually picked up quite a few books here over the past year and I've always had a pretty good experience. In the cases where I came in and been a pain in the ass and asked them for a book with the vaguest of details, they've always been eager to help and very pleasant. Prices are good too, though I have to say, the selection is light for areas like travel and non-UK history. Recommended bookshop.

You can also buy your Oyster cards here or get a top up in the mornings. A word of warning though, there's usually huge queue on a Monday morning so either get it the night before or be prepared for a long wait - this has often made me late for work. A huge banner decorates the cheerful front window of Hamdy's declaring "THIS IS A PORN FREE NEWSAGENT." Thank goodness for that I say. I agree with Hamdy's and have no problem with people that partake in the purchase of porn, I just don't want to witness them doing it when I buy my morning paper and orange juice. Although it is not possible to buy porn here, Hamdy's has a huge selection of other types of magazines, from fashion to fishing and everything in between. It's almost as if they are trying to encourage non porn related hobbies and I think it's all very refreshing. They also stock everything else a porn free newsagent should have: cigarettes, sweeties and Ebony cards. These are my favourite cards, they feature ebony beauties in all sorts of situations (playing pool, going to church, etc.) and say things like "You are a strong, good man, a man that doesn't walk away, Happy Birthday brother." What more could you ask from a paper shop? If your answer is porn than go buy it in Soho, because in Stoke Newington, we like to keep things nice and clean.

Hamdy's sells loads of toys and sweets and slushes... All stuff aimed at kids, why would you not be happy that they didn't litter their shelves with stuff that young eyes probably shouldn't see? I also like this place because they sell sparklers most of the year around. They're also are super friendly whenever I go in there to by magazines. They have such a huge selection too, better than any other shop in the area. Must be all that room on the shelves that are free of porn...
