I recently paid off my car loan with this iconic bank being the very first bank establishment in Hawaii when it was Kingdom of Hawaii, not part of the US. Dif location & the names changed since 1858 - 1969, but EPIC right! This isn't even my bank (my parents love it tho) yet they had the best offer for me at the car dealership at about 7% APR for 72 months. I was mailed coupon books that had a pay slip for each month so I'd take that to the bank monthly & pay my loan and then some (whatever extra i could add to pay it off faster). There's a 10 day grace period before a late fee, So generous! The bank is conveniently located in the beginning of Kapolei Shopping Center across McD's. Open M-F 8:30am - 4pm, Sat 9am -1pm. The layout is nice and spacious. To the right is Account Specialist, to the left is a waiting area. Past that is the Bank Tellers. There's a cubicle for business members, who will also take regular members when there's no one in that line. The ATM outside takes deposits too. The tellers are friendly and quick. Some of them remembered me even tho I came in just once a month. The line is much longer on weekends and late afternoons so best if you can make it in earlier on weekdays. My great 5 stars 5 years experience came from friendly tellers, convenient location & ways to pay, low APR & 9-1 Sat. hours. Drawback can be long lines, esp. Sat, but that's w/any bank! Tip: if you wanna pay off your loan faster (to lessen the interest you end up paying & be free sooner), pay any add'l amount you can over the minimum payment & tell them apply it to the principal (otherwise it'll go towards your next months payment). FHB Kapolei Branch. Located next to Longs and McDonald's. Very clean and spacious. They offer a multitude of options to help you with your business, personal finances, and real estate. The associates on the platform are very knowledgeable as are their front line tellers. The main reason for the low or average ratings was that we needed to make an appointment for notary services. We were promised a call back but never received one In person service is above average. Phone or online is below average. read more

Ah, First Hawaiian Bank in Kapolei... where customer service goes to retire. Let me tell you, I dread walking through those doors. The vibe is like they're filming the world's most boring documentary on how not to interact with people. The tellers? Oh boy, they look like they're auditioning for a role as "Most Unhappy Human" ...never a smile, never a friendly greeting, just this overwhelming sense that you're bothering them by daring to exist. I'm honestly not sure if they're trained to give you the cold shoulder or if this is just how they roll. But it's consistent.....every visit feels like a new low in customer service. And don't even get me started on the negative energy. I go in needing to deposit a check and leave feeling like I need to sage my soul. BUT, wait! There was one shining star in this sea of doom: Jennyl. She sat at the desk when you first walked in, and let me tell you, she was the reason I almost didn't hate going there. Always bubbly, always lively and honestly, the only source of warmth in the whole place. She could turn your bad day around in minutes! If the bank was a black-and-white movie, Jennyl was in full technicolor. Now that she's not there, I can't lie, I've seriously thought about closing my account... but instead, I'm just pulling my money out and letting the account collect dust. Overall 1-1/2 stars, for good reasons. Bad customer service from the tellers, 75% of them are just rude. Calling wait time is always 30 minutes plus. No 24 hours customer service. On the weekends, contacting customer service is closed. Their website and mobile app is lackluster. They don't value that you bank with them. When late on payments, they hound you and they are very unprofessional. First Hawaiian Bank needs give new and improved form, structure, focusing more on better customer service. I normally don't like to post anything about places but this bank has lines out the door. There are 4 tellers, one is coo ting mOney at 3pm . They have all these signs that's state "bank and work with the best", "open a checking account" Yara Yara Yara. But the customer service is terrible. Very little hellos and smiles and when they do call you up, they act like they are doing you a favor. I have been here 3-4 times already at 330pm and same thing, long lines and other tellers doing other things rather han helping customers In Wahiawā , that bank is phenomenal! I'm usually not impressed that easily, however this morning I was. I found parking immediately at this branch and was about to throw an inside, quiet hissy fit as I saw the teller line was 10 people deep. I had no choice but to wait but was pleasingly surprised when I got to a teller in less than minutes (yes, i was timing it). The tellers were all happy and greeting the customers, as did mine when I got to him. This is the worst bank. I had an account here for five years and then I decided to close it. A month later I get a letter saying that I over withdrew .18 and was added another $36 in penalties for overdrawn and minimum balance. I closed the account!! It took a month and ten phone calls to finally take care of this. No one wanted to take responsibility and they wanted me to come in and talk to them. I dont even live in Hawaii. WARNING Predatory overdraft practices. They do not process payments in a chronological order. Even if those debits were made, and recognized a week prior, they will make an adjustment to process them after the accidental overdraft. My mortgage payment caused a rare overdraft, but all of the prior week's debits were moved to be process after the large mortgage payment causing nearly $300 in total fees. I hope this serves as a warning. Imagine what other predatory practices they implement with large business accounts. don't let this happen to you or your loved ones. read more

I know we should have social distancing, but they have a line outside. I feel bad for the elderly for standing outside in the hot sun. Some days there is no wind. There is a small shade only at a certain time of the day. My suggestion is to make a zig zag line inside, they have the space. I really like this bank. Customer service is always top notch and the tellers are friendly and engaging. I'm always greeted warmly when I walk in. As most banks, peaks hours and pay days are always crowded. I try to avoid peak hours but if I must, the line seems to move relatively quickly. Sometimes, when the line is long, one of the girls sitting at the desk will ask the customers in line if they are there for a deposit. If so, they'll help you as long as your aren't withdrawing money. There's also the option of the Express Teller, where you can make a deposit w/o having to stand in line. Just fill out the deposit slip, put your check in the envelope and deposit it into the Express Teller. Don't deposit cash though. When I went to Japan & Korea, I needed yen and wan. I didn't think the bank would have wan but they did. Well actually, they had to get it from the Main Branch but I was able to pick it up the next day. Plus there was no fee to exchange from dollars. I have a few CD's with FHB which I don't really pay attention to. When it's time to cash out or extend, the bank calls me to let me know and ask what I'd like to do. I have an account with another bank nearby but prefer FHB. The other bank's tellers aren't as friendly. I like that FHB put the ATM machine next to the bank and not clear across the parking lot in no man's land. I always felt vulnerable withdrawing cash when the ATM was no where near the bank. read more

First Hawaiian Bank Kapolei was where I opened my first checking account. Now after three years of below satisfactory experience with this bank, I've switched over to the new Bank of Hawaii branch in Kapolei... and so far loving it! The main problem with this bank: Their CUSTOMER SERVICE! I did my banking at this branch 90% of the time, and I was almost NEVER greeted. It's the little things that count people! But on top of that, they ALL (and I mean like, all but one) do things as SLOW as possible, NEVER SMILE, and act like they don't have a care in the world, except for when their next break is! The other problem is their FEES! They keep finding new ways to charge you for the littlest things, while raising their current fees (ATM fees rose TWICE in my three years with them!). When I went there to close my checking account (which they didn't even ask me why or try to get me to keep the account) They told me that I'd have to pay a dollar for the slip to close my account! Like seriously?! Are you getting that desperate to nickel and dime me?! ...so, I told her I wasn't gonna pay that, and I guess from my shocked reaction, she told me she'll let it go this time (which there wasn't gonna be a next time anyway!)... All in all, First Hawaiian Bank, from a consumer's perspective (since I hear they're a good bank for small businesses), was the WORST bank I've ever done business with, ESPECIALLY the Kapolei branch. Never go during lunch time - which is between the hours of 11:30 AM - 1:30PM!! Although this bank is clean and seems to have a staff present. While standing in line at 12:58 ... I stayed in a long line with 15 members ahead of me. It took me 35 min to get to the front. Why would this bank only have three tellers out during prime hours?! While there are three other bank workers who sit at desks: one looked like she was busy as she sorted through folders, another talked on the business phone as if she was talking to a friend or family looking comfortable and the last one seemed to like having her hand in her left desk drawer while a sound from a game went off. There's a lot of parking near by if you can handle the traffic of the Kapolei Shopping Center. But this prime lunch hour can be improved. read more

First Hawaiian bank Kapolei has always provided good customer service every time I have been there. I have a savings account and a solar loan through them and have been happy with the flexibility and the service. Also, the tellers seem to be more efficient and the line moves faster than Bank of Hawaii Kapolei which is where I have other accounts. Overall, I highly recommend FHB. read more

The location is a pretty good location, it does get busy in the area though so sometimes parking and getting out of parking can take some time. This is currently the only branch in Kapolei, and the only thing I like about it is that it's conveniently near Longs and Safeway. I don't like the location and the bank lazy teller I had. Location: Easy to find, and located in the Kapolei shopping center next door to Longs. Coming in and out of the shopping center sucks, especially during peak time and there's traffic. Bank Teller: I withdrew $10k and the bank teller used the machine to count the cash. I asked if she could count it manually, but she refused, and told me the machine is reliable. It may not be a lot of money to a few, but that's a lot of money to me, and I wanted to make sure all the money was there. After a few times asking her, she gave this big snappy and sassy sigh and counted it. It was that one incident, and hopefully it will never happen again. read more

There were 5 tellers and 3 other employees at the desks where others were taking out loans etc. An employee held the door open for me when I entered and when I left. After a very poor experience with FHB many, many years ago as a college student, I thought I would try FHB again. I usually bank with the local credit unions, but needed a safe deposit box and opened an account recenty. Now I remember why I stopped doing business with FHB so long. I've stopped by my local Kapolei branch four times since I opened my account. The first visit included a long wait in line. The second visit involved dealing with a teller who was aloof and dismissive. I wrote it off as her having a bad day. I'm home now after my fourth visit and decided to submit a review. Am I just not showing up on the days that the tellers at this bank are friendly and provide good customer service? Please let me know what days those are. Today's teller was flat out rude and borderline obnoxious and condescending. I actually had to stare at her, blinking stupidly because I couldn't believe how she was acting. Customer service at this branch is terrible. Please treat your customers with some decorum and at least some level of respect. FHB has a,new online banking system which Ive been unable to get into for over 3 days now. Ive been calling them for 3 days as well at all times of the day and unable to get help with this. This is a pretty convenient location to go to if you are a FHB customer and living in the Kapolei area. It is in that Kapolei Shopping Plaza on Farrington Highway right next to Longs Drugs, McDonalds, and Chili's. This is actually one of the smaller FHBs that I have been to and seen. If you go in the morning, if could be busy or it could not be, it all depends. I like to come here right after I get paid to put in my deposit and it's too bad that they don't have a priority rewards customer line like the other FHBs do to bypass the regular line. So that pretty much makes it where everybody has to stand in the same line. It's that and the other line/teller is for business accounts. I have worked in the banking industry for over 20 years and recently started a business. I opened my personal account at that location after having my business account there for almost 3 years. The main reason is because of the friendliness and warmness of the tellers. I always get a hello and a smile even when I know they're stressing over the lines. I've been a customer of FHB for a long time and since moving to Kapolei the only FHB nearby is the one located at the Kapolei Shopping Center. First of all, I don't like the location because it's a pain getting out of the shopping center when it's busy. Went to the bank at 3pm on a Monday to pay my car payment. There were only 2 tellers working and the line was out to the door. It took 25 minutes to get to a teller. There was no friendly greeting or even a thank you for waiting. So glad I chose not to open an account at this bank. read more

I do not understand how FHB will sell me yen at their price yet when I come back and ask for change for yen, i.e. 10000 for (2) 5000, they tell me that since I am not a customer (MC/VISA holder doesn't count) that I can SELL back my yen at the current dollar rate then RE-BUY my yen in the denominations that I want... goodbye MC/VISA... read more
