Matt , the fellow in the office making arrangements for the move, is very detail oriented and ensured that he understood both the quantity to be moved and the characteristics of the residences on either end of the move. The movers showed up on time ,were very pleasant and knew exactly what they were doing. By that I mean ALL of them were expert. This wasn't a case of a couple of well trained people directing amateurs as is often the case. Each one of them were expert and very impressive. A very dependable local company to take care of your moving needs. They service the Ottawa area as well as Eastern Ontario. The rates are very reasonable and I found the staff to be very friendly. While I don't have any frame of comparison to other movers in the area, from what I've heard through ancedotal evidence, these guys are among the better ones. If you need a mover, you need to seriously consider First Rate Movers. This is the second time we have used First Rate with no complaints. We were moving from a one-bedroom apartment to a two bedroom apartment. The guys who showed up were on time, friendly, and worked hard. It honestly felt that they were trying get the job done as soon as reasonably possible. However, it never felt that the movers were being fast and careless; they treated our belongings carefully and respectfully. It was clear that these guys know what they are doing as there was not a wasted movement or material. None of our belongings were damaged. Even the boxes were basically in the same condition at the end as they were in the beginning. I love the fact that the price was very reasonable and the fact there were no hidden fees. The owner was open with what we would pay and clearly explained the breakdown. I'm sure there are other great movers in Ottawa, but you would have a difficult time finding a mover that are better than First Rate Movers. Hire them. read more

We moved on Dec 22, 2020. Our crew was lead by Wes. We were super impressed with their care and concern for our items. Very professional, polite, and hard working crew. They went the extra mile to ensure that our stuff was cared for and packaged properly. The crew worked so well together and were able to pack all of our 4 bedroom 4 bathroom townhouse into one truckload! We were super impressed with their ability to minimize the trips! As well the time on the other end unpacking the truck, placing items in their proper spot and setting up the beds for us! We used these movers to move from Arnprior to Ottawa. We were moving from a four bedroom house to a one bedroom apartment. We hired two movers and the 24 foot truck. The guys who showed up, Zak and Aaron, were clean, presentable and worked like dogs. They took only one short break and made sure things went as smooth as possible. The truck was large for the stated length. The interior of the truck is kept spotless and all of the moving supplies were clean and plentiful. They guys treated our mediocre belongings like gold. The estimate that the owner, Matt, provided was very close to the price I paid. There were no surprise fees and it truly felt like the guys were trying to get the job done as fast as possible. After all the horror stories I have heard about when it comes to movers, I was rally surprised at how well we were treated. Tip: Make sure that if you want to pay by credit card that you let them know in advance. All in all I would hire this company again. read more

I only had them load my 15' U-Haul truck. Movers showed up on time. They were friendly, professional, quick, and efficient. They packed the truck making excellent use of the space in the cargo bay, and also ensured that items supported each other and would not move during the trip. I heard no strange bangs or noises from the cargo bay during my 5 hour drive. No surprises with the charges either. Deduct one star only because it took several callbacks to actually BOOK the movers, but the moving team was excellent. read more

I have hired First Rate Movers to complete two small moves for me over the years (once in 2009 and again in May 2014) and they were great both times. In both cases, the moves were completed a bit quicker than I expected and the final bill came in under quote. There was no damage to any of my belongings either. The crews were courteous and worked efficiently. I've used them twice now and can highly recommend them. They are amazing. I would not go anywhere else for my moving needs. We recently hired First Rate Movers to move from our four-bedroom home. We dealt with Matt to book our move. This was our first major move and he was very helpful providing excellent information and advice. Given the size of our home and the amount of furniture and boxes, we were assigned a three-person crew and a 26 foot truck. The crew was punctual, professional, friendly and hard-working. We had a big move that required many trips up and down stairs. They worked very hard and while I am sure they were exhausted, it never showed in their attitude. They treated our possessions carefully while working efficiently to get the job done within the estimated timeframe. The quote we had been provided with beforehand was clear and accurate. There were no surprises or hidden fees on moving day and the price we paid was slightly less than the original estimate. Recently booked First Rate Movers to move from a semi to a single family home. Excellent experience. They were very professional and really hard workers. Everything was wrapped with care and nothing got damaged. The move included some very large furniture and a heavy treadmill. All were moved with no problems at all. I had such a bad move with them, the quotes weren't accurate, what you save in tax in nothing. They didn't get me the right truck. The guys don't know how to pack a elevator. They supposed to come a certain day, didn't show up and said that I had cancelled. When they came they were 4 guys to load then down to 2 to unload. I was allowed 2 hour elevator time. My teenage boys and I had to help unload even though we're on the first floor. I had to get them again a few days later because they didn't load everything. They were 2 guys and still didn't know how to pack the elevator, my son and I did half the work even though I'm not supposed to lift anything too heavy. This time they were charging by the hour, so they were taking their time. For the first, the guys complained the whole time. The second time, they broke quite a few things, never used their blankets for the mirrors. The guys and the boss refused to take responsibility. How can you have pictures and receipts for antiques or handmade things. I'm thinking of taking them to small claims court. Never hire these guys. read more
