I moved into First Storage in North Wilkesboro around 7 or 8 months ago. When I signed up, the price for my unit was about $70 a month, which seemed reasonable at the time. A few months later they raised it to $100 a month. That alone was frustrating, but what really pushed me over the edge was what happened when I tried to downgrade to something smaller to save money.
I went in and asked about switching to a 5x5 unit because I can't justify paying $100 a month right now. They told me the 5x5 would be $125 a month. That makes absolutely no sense to me. I currently have a 10x10 and they're charging me $100, but if I go to a unit half the size they want even more money.
They also explained that after you've been there a while the price can go up again. So from what I can tell, they bring you in with a low "teaser" rate, then once you're moved in and settled they start raising the price. And if you try to switch units to save money, somehow it ends up costing even more.
The facility itself is nice and indoors, but the pricing structure just feels like a ripoff. I wouldn't recommend this place unless you're okay with the price going up after you move in. One star from me. read more
