This hotel is in the newer (suburbs) section right near the funicular that takes you up to the Skywalk and Salt mine. You can easily walk from one end of town to the other in about 15 minutes, so location and proximity to all the town has to offer is fantastic. And being just outside the tourist center is a plus, as far as I'm concerned. The hotel has parking if you're driving a car (which we did) and quaint, comfortable rooms with free breakfast included. But what set this hotel apart from the rest and exceeded my expectations was the home-cooked dinner prepared by the owners. Although you must reserve in advance and is available on a first-come-first-served basis, this was my family's favorite meal in Austria and it made our short stay in Hallstatt immensely enjoyable. We felt right at home thanks to the charming hospitality of the Salzbachers.
