Many customers on the boat were clearly frequent users of Middlebank Sport Fishing. Nick and Max knew many by their first names and everyone was truly friendly. The boat was clean and organized and docked in the most convenient area with tons of parking. When I left, even the captain honked and said "you are the winner of today's pool? Congrats!" This tour was definitely a highlight of our trip! Captain John and Charlie were great and all the passengers aboard had a great time! We passed three lighthouses-Peck Ledge LH, Sheffield Island LH and Green's Ledge LH. Charlie, co-captain of Captain John, had just toured the inside of Green's Ledge LH the day before which is listed on Airbnb for $6,000! He went around the ship showing everyone the floor plan. It especially exciting to be on the Long Island Sound and to see the red and white towers from Northport, since I live on Long Island!! We were able to see several different viewpoints of the sunset and osprey nests as well. Definitely recommend to residents of Norwalk AND tourists alike!

Actually I've…read morebeen to a few clinkers which says that I'm apparently I'm also a sucker for a bad lighthouse as well but there's no need to worry about that at Sheffield because it's all good here. So if you want to come you've got two legal options. 1. Show up via kayak (or I suppose boat then taking a short swim) during hours when they are running tours and you will be met on the shore by a volunteer who will ask you to pay a few dollars for the privilege of taking the lighthouse tour/hanging out on the island. 2. Or, you come via the regularly scheduled boat that runs from the dock on North Water Street in Norwalk from late May until the end of September. There are various public & private decks for parking all around the area so it shouldn't be too hard to find a close space. I don't remember what the price is for option #1 but for option #2 the below currently apply: Adults: $22.00 - Children 12 & Under: $12.00 Senior / NSA Member $20.00 Active Military with ID $10.00 Children 3 & Under: $5.00 Family 4 Pack (2 Adults, 2 Children) $55.00 A few random facts: Boats depart weekends only every year over Memorial Day weekend and eventually go daily from July until Labor Day and then back to weekends only until the end of September. Check seaport.org for the current schedule and for special events such as their clambakes. Once you get to the island you get to take a brief tour of the lighthouse which was built in 1868 (downstairs only for now as the upstairs tower portion is being worked on and hopefully tours will be allowed there in the not to distant future once they get the stairs in better shape along with figuring out a way to dissipate the heat which we were told was well over 100 degrees the day we were there in August) and you can also walk through the nature trail via the Stewart B. McKinney Wildlife Refuge. If you are going to walk on the nature trail or along the beach that fronts Sheffield Island Harbor just know that things are "wild" and that you will get eaten alive by flies, mosquitoes and I wouldn't be shocked if the trees had lots of ticks. The lighthouse was relit in 2011 for the first time in 91 years. Why Sheffield Island? The island was named after Revolutionary War veteran Captain Robert Sheffield who bought the island in 1804. He married Temperance Doty, a Mayflower descendant and such started the current lineage of the island's name. The 47 acre island is private property that is primarily owned by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service with the Norwalk Seaport Association depending upon the website owning only three or four of those acres. You will be reminded a few times of where you can and cannot walk. Speaking of an area you can't walk by it would be the dilapidated house on the right near the dock. That house is still owned by the Stabell family who sold the island to the Norwalk Seaport Association in 1986 for 700K. I forget the exact story we were told but it's something along the lines of the "home" (more of a dilapidated shack) cannot be renovated because of Fish and Wildlife Service rules and if they raze the structure they lose the land so the shack stands as is. The island itself is around a mile and half from the dock in Norwalk and the boat is kept at a country club pace in both directions which equals about 40 minutes to make the trip in each direction. This is fine as one of the crew did a fairly good job or telling everyone about some of the various islands & lighthouses & birds in the area and about the local shellfish industry. Past that it's just sit back and relax on some of their picnic benches and have a picnic or don't do a damn thing except the enjoy the beautiful view. Either way it's awesome.

The bartender was exceptional - we were all served promptly and she even came around to our tables a few times to see if we wanted refills. The ship was not crowded so we had plenty of room to mingle and enjoy ourselves. The outdoor decks are small-ish but as the boat was fairly empty that was fine. All in all it was a great day and I would recommend this as an excellent option for enjoying one of Long Island's most spectacular areas. The Captain even made sure to come downstairs from the pilot house to thank us all for coming and say goodbye. :-) The only reason I'm not giving this a 5-star review is that the boat quite frankly needs a thorough, top to bottom scrubbing - all the surfaces were dirty/sticky and the floors were grimy (yes, I know it's a marine environment and dampness is part of being on a boat... but this was more than just the "sea air!"). A few hours with a power washer (and carpet steamer) would do wonders! The paint needs refreshing too - even if just the railings, which stood out the most as old/worn looking. Bottom line, I'd recommend it and I'd go again... but I'd love to see the Lauren Kristy gleam the way she could with a detailing and a bit of fresh paint!

What a great time!! A group of us (10) were celebrating a friend's 50th birthday. From start to…read morefinish, we had a fun time. The entire staff is so accommodating. Tables were reserved for us in the back of the ship which was ideal. Everyone received a complimentary cocktail and there are several snack food choices available to purchase (ie fish and chips, pretzels, etc. In the lower level, is the bar and you place your food order and the staff brings your food directly to your table, piping hot. The scenic route is just so relaxing and the vibe on the ship is so friendly and upbeat. The star of the ship, however, is DJ Esco. Oh my!! DJ Esco played music from my era (1970's) thru the 80's 90's to present. He knows how to get a party started and keep it going!! It was one big lovefest, from the children to the seniors on the dance floor and if not dancing, singing from your seat or while taking in the views. Happy Birthday was sung to all the birthday folks and though the time just flew by it felt like we had been cruising longer than two hours. A time was had and will not be forgotten! This was my mom and I's first time aboard the Emerald princess and it was something I've had my eyes on for quite sometime. I was very interested in their fall foliage cruises but was unable to get around to booking. A brunch cruise came up on my instagram feed around the time of my mom's birthday and decided to treat her. We departed at 11am and circled around by West Point and came back. It was a beautiful Saturday morning with smooth waters and blue skies. The boat was very spacious, comfortable and welcoming. On the table they had a lot of Peekskill attractions to encourage you to venture out around the town. After departing at 11am we were served complimentary mimosas and the brunch buffet was opened shortly after that. The spread was wonderful. They served eggs, bacon, sausage, two types of quiche, pancakes, seasoned potatoes, penne vodka, chicken francese, assorted muffins and fresh fruit. Everything was served hot, fresh and delicious. The buffet was not self service but it was opened right up until a few mins before the cruise ended. There was plenty of food and no shame in going back for seconds or thirds! They had a friendly bartender that had soft drinks, waters, wines/beers and cocktails made to order. The views were amazing from the upper and lower decks. We had access to the entire boat. The owner came around to greet everyone and surprised us when she announced that if anyone wanted to drive the boat the opportunity would soon come! My mom was thrilled. There is a picture of my mom actually steering the boat in a captains hat lol! I loved seeing her happy and knew I made the right choice booking us tickets with R.M.S cruises. I really couldn't recommend it more and if you need some extra convincing please refer to the picture of my mom with the captains hat on. Her happiness from this brunch cruise is infectious!
