Some of my finds included a Corian trivet shaped like a turtle, and I got our niece one that's shaped like a mermaid. I also bought a spoon made from Corian with a notch on it so it can rest on the side of the pot. I bought a print of the Middle Bay lighthouse painted by a retired fireman. I bought two prints of sea turtles painted by an up and coming artist named Gary Pope, Jr. My friend Bev kept telling him he should increase his prices before I paid for mine. She's totally right, but wait until after I buy mine. My favorite local photographer/candle maker was there selling her candles and wax melts and I loaded up. That's Lynn Jordan/Bon Secour Candle Company, in case you're wondering. I bought Jasmine a tutu from a booth that had everything you could possibly want for your pet. Of course I bought some pottery. I got the most fabulous and practical utensil holder with crabs on it for only $36! I wanted so much more and the prices were great. In addition to what we bought, we saw wood bowls, gorgeous and well-made handcrafted jewelry, paintings, clothing, address plaques and so much more. There were several food stands as well and some live music. This festival is not huge. We walked in in a matter of a couple of hours and saw everything. It's really a can't miss annual event. There's no admission and parking is free.

Anyway today on our way back from running errands we noticed all these great looking palms trees out front so we popped in. We've been thinking that we'd like to add something that pops near our front door. The guy comes right out and offers his assistance. We gave him our specifics and he was very thorough in asking all the questions about location, amount of sun, etc and we ended up looking at these really pretty and healthy looking Sago Palms. Turns out they are perfect for what we want since they grow pretty slow. We got a medium sized palm that we're going to put in an oversized pot (yet to be found) and will be able to care for it and watch it grow for 5-7 years in said pot. Then we will remove it from Playa Sea Zen & bring it to our cottage down the road (Casa Sea Zen) to transplant it in the perfect spot by our front deck that we've talked about needing something exactly like a sago palm. How's that for having a vision and for running sentences LOL Anyway, the gentleman at Davis Nursery is extremely knowledgable, friendly & professional and walked us through the potting, care and future transplanting of our palm. He bagged the thing and placed in in our vehicle and we couldn't be happier with our decision to stop by & buy from him. They have an excellent selection of perennial, annuals, indoor & outdoor plants, vines & trees with a nice selection of fruit trees as well. From seedlings to 30' monster palm trees that have got it and everything looks well cared for. I highly recommend these folks!

Today wasy first visit here and it's the kind of place that feels like a one-stop shop for anyone with a yard, animals, or a love for outdoor projects. Walking in, you're hit with that familiar smell of feed and fresh soil, which is what I expected and it sets the tone for what they're all about, ya' know practical stuff for folks who like to get their hands dirty. :-) The garden center caught my eye right away. It's tucked off to the side but feels like its own little world. They've got a solid mix of plants, from flowering shrubs to herbs and veggie starters, all looking healthy and well-kept. The selection isn't massive, but it's thoughtful and caters to what grows well around here. I browsed and took note of the tomato plants and mulch, and the prices looked fair, maybe a touch lower than the big box stores. The staff was very, very friendly and really knew their stuff, too. (Thank you Mary) Inside, the store's laid out quite well with tools, fencing, pet supplies, and feed stacked high, with clear signs so you're not wandering forever. It's clean, not fancy, but that's the vibe you expect. I noticed they had a good range of lawnmowers and chainsaws, which is handy if you're tackling bigger projects. The checkout folks were friendly and there's several registers so waiting isn't an issue. The parking lot's a big plus. It's huge, with plenty of room for trucks and trailers, which makes sense given the kind of customers they get. I didn't have to circle around or squeeze into a tight spot, plus there's also a drive-thru pickup area, which I didn't use but seems convenient if you're grabbing something heavy like feed bags. It wasn't to capacity, but there were 5 groups of guests working on projects and a birthday party in a designated group room. Jerry, is extremely kind and patient. He is knowledgeable about the craft and is wiling to help in any way. The price is more than fair for an evening of positive entertainment and camaraderie. There is an $8 sitting fee. This sitting fee includes access to all materials available for the craft and the fire of your project in the kiln. The cost of the the item you select as your project is the only other cost to consider. That price is reflected next to the item for transparency. In the end, you will pay $8/person and the cost of the ceramic piece. I painted a $25 ceramic chicken, so my total was $33. The length of time you spend at Let's Go Paint Pottery varies depending on your level of skill, the size of your project, or simply the time alloted to enjoy your company.
