So the Big K headed in first while I went to Dollarama nearby to waste some time. How long could buying a hockey stick take? I finally had to enter National Sports to investigate the Big K's disappearance and within record time I was greeted by a very friendly salesperson who not only found The Big K for me, but three perfectly wonderful, very expensive hockey sticks that could significantly improve The Big K's game (and in sum total cost more than my dishwasher.) After much careful consideration, The Big K finally settled on "just one" (thank goodness) from this neatly organized and well-stocked store. I rushed the Big K with stick in hand to the check-out (in an effort to prevent him from buying anything else.) Even the cashier was super-charming and personable and made paying the large bill less painful. Final words: bring lots of cash. This store is conducive to shopping.

You really can't go wrong here. Rented a canoe from their Nobel location (White Squall Paddling Centre -53 Carling Bay Rd.) a few weekends ago and couldn't of been happier. Very much has a mom&pop feel but was pleasantly surprised with the amount and variety of stuff they have, it's basically a mini MEC in the middle of the wilderness. You're even able to try out the boats before you buy one since they are right on the lake. The guy helping us (I think his name was Jack?) was very helpful, he walked through canoeing 101 with my novice friends, and after talking to us about our plans suggested a alternate route out on Georgian bay that saved us a ton of paddling. Plus they have a chicken coup in the backyard - how cool is that? Also be sure to check out the 'offices' if you have to go. The staff here are so friendly and accommodating, I think I called them at least 4x in a week and they weren't annoyed of me and always returned my calls quickly. I rented two paddle boards for Canada day long weekend and prior to visiting the paddle centre, wasn't 100% confident about strapping those bad boys to a small Toyota corollas roof. Staff showed us how to safely secure the crafts to the car and provided all the equipment necessary (foam blocks, straps). The boards were in great shape (one was brand new!) and came with paddles, life jackets, and leashes. I actually called last minute on the last day of my rental to ask if I could keep the boards one more day and they moved some things around to accommodate me, which totally made my weekend!! I would not hesitate to recommend White Squall to anyone interested in renting and I will be back!!

AO was well stocked even in the mid season and we had plenty of great options to choose from and lovely staff to help with our sélection. It was a bonus that all kids jacket and pants were on sale for 30% off. Woot! While we were browsing for the pants, we decided to get the binding adjusted on her skis and the gentleman (Bob) was so helpful with tweaking my daughter's gears to make her first day back on the slopes as easy and enjoyable as possible. It's shops like this that I miss in Toronto, with that extra attention to customers experience and willingness to go that extra mile to make it great.
