Best tour do not hesitate and just book!!!! Zack took an incredible amount of time for our tour and gave us a personalized adventure.  We were also blessed to see whales, porpoise, urchins, starfish,  seals, sea lions. He knew all the places to go and gave such an amazing insight of the different islands and mountains. He also gave us snacks and beverages from locally sourced places. Literally we could not have asked for better and it was even more amazing than we could have imagined.  When we come back we will ONLY book here.

We had the absolute best time on the Oyster Farm Tour! If we could give it 10 stars we would. From…read morethe moment we walked on the dock, Captain Zach welcomed us on board, and made is feel comfortable and safe, he even had a scavenger hunt game prepared for our toddler! Once we were on our way, the learning began! Did you know that oysters are one of the most sustainable forms of aquaculture? Or that one little oyster filters a bathtub of water per day, keeping our oceans clean, pristine, fresh and beautiful? We learned so many incredible facts about his family oyster farm, the innovation they are adding to the industry, oysters as a species and the local aquaculture. The boat has both inside cabin space and outside deck space, making it great to enjoy the sea breeze and spray, but also shade from the hot sun. Captain Zach has an incredibly deep knowledge of the Discovery Islands and Desolation Sound, pointing out mountains, islands, bays and even rock formations, and added a depth of history to everything he shared. His passion to share this area of Vancouver Island is contagious! We saw a pod of dolphins, sea lions, eagles, all sorts of waterfowl. At no moment did we feel rushed, it was a beautiful leisurely day on the water - that also kept at 3 year old happy and engaged all day - and ended with the a delicious feast of oysters. We all had a blast and can't wait to be back.

It was the shortest tour and within that time we saw harbour seals, a black bear and a raft of sea otters. The tour guide said his boat was the fastest in the fleet so we seemed to get to places quite quickly. The guide warned us we may not see black bears because they hadn't seen many. But then he heard where there was one and after fifteen or so minutes we got to the black bear. And like every tour we were respectfully far away from the black bear. I've attached a photo of the bear and it's at 30x zoom. For the harbor seals we were closer and even closer to the raft of sea otters, which was the highlight of the tour. I know that the black bear is supposed to be the highlight but I would rather see animals closer and it appeared that sea otters were not as skittish. As for equipment, this tour started at the nicest office though you have to pay for parking. The flotation suits looked quite new and very clean. This tour's boat was the most comfortable and easiest for viewing all around. Only one binocular was supplied for the whole tour to share so I was glad we brought our own. The whole tour cost almost $500 CAD. It's questionable whether it was worth it to see a black bear far away for twenty minutes, some harbor seals for a few minutes and a raft of sea otters for fifteen minutes. But I am glad we did it.

The website was easy to navigate, and I appreciated the ability to sign and submit our waivers ahead of time. The drive up to the check-in place involved a pristine logging road, according to my husband and I would have to agree it was good as far as logging roads go. We went on the two cave tour with our guide, Oscar. I had been a little apprehensive about going on the cave tour the night before (because we were willingly going into pitch-black, cold, tight spaces), but Oscar's passion, humour, and knowledge of the area eased my fears. Thanks to the information on the website, we were well dressed and prepared for the temperatures (they provided sturdy helmets and head lamps). Oscar took us on the hike up to the cave and gave us plenty of opportunities to rest. He guided us through every step of the two caves, so I never felt anxious or afraid, and I was able to go through the physicality of the cave tours (some climbing, crouching, etc), without much trouble. I emerged from the two cave tour smiling and exuberant, having done something completely new to me. I felt the prices were reasonable, and I would recommend the tours for sure!

I do not recommend this visit to the Horne Lake Caves if:…read more -you have kids and want them to have a good time -have little experience climbing inside tight spaces -are on a budget -don't have long sleeve clothing - you do not mind getting dirty and wet Here is what you can expect: There are three caves total: the Riverbend, the Main and the Lower Main. -Office/trailer - you can do a self tour, rent a hard hat with flashlight attached for about $9 each person. They recommend that you have at least two sources of light as the caves are pitch dark and you will not see a thing if you don't have light! Also you should have a long clothing as it is very chilly in there and the clothing will protect you against possible cuts as the rocks can be sharp! -Cost of tours - if you opt to take their tours, a one cave tour that only goes partly (33% into the Riverbend cave) costs $24 a person. A three cave tour will cost $54 a head. You are only allowed to see the Riverbend cave if you buy their tour. Self tours you can do the two smaller caves (Main and lower Main). They don't even give you a flashlight but they want you to have two sources of light? Hmmm... Due to the cost and time limitations, we opted for the self tour and rented the helmets. We were glad we did as we found the caves to be dangerous if not careful. The rocks and ground in the cave can be wet and there were many areas that we had to squeeze through and we are lucky we had our helmets! No helmets would have meant heads cut open on the sharp jagged rock formations above. The most we could do was about 60% into the Main and lower Main caves as it became to difficult with our shoes and the unwillingness to injury ourselves climbing an awkward wet rock formation. A few families who were there with us agreed that the caves were not very kid friendly and turned back about half way. I have been to other cave attractions before and this one was not fun due to the above experience. I can see more experienced climbers and cave dwellers enjoying this one.
