Catch of the day.

Wonderful service and great food. I had the catch of the day. Always finish with aquavit.

It is in a desirable location and well known. But the food is just so so. I ordered a famous fish soup. It is okay but not impressive with very small pieces of seafood and many bread crumbs felling it is a tourist place.

This place is awesome! They have a set menu, and you can pick which items you want. They also have fresh seafood to be served on ice. I ordered a fish soup because according to TripAdvisor, that's what everyone gets. I also got their first starter of the day, smoked cod. There was complimentary bread as well, sourdough and wheat. Both were really soft and fresh, but I personally enjoyed the sourdough more. My fish soup was amazing! Best soup I've ever had. It was really creamy but light and full of flavor at the same time. There was plenty of fish, and different kinds of fish at that. The soup also had croutons on the top and this sort of oil that made of more flavorful. It was so good, and I've never had anything quite like it. The smoked cod was full of flavor too, but it as slightly too salty. It was plated really nicely, and it came with a quail egg too. The quail egg was cooked to perfection; the inside was still runny and it was delicious. There was also some thick yellow sauce I think made from the yolk, and there was another dark red quite thick sauce made I think from beets. The yolk sauce was really salty, but the red sauce balanced out the flavors. Quite delicious too. The meal cost a hefty amount though; I would definitely not come here often if I lived here. Together, the dishes added up to 328 NOK, the fish soup being 159 and the smoked cod being 169. Wow! Amazing meal though. Right when I tasted the fish soup, I decided that it was probably going to be the best thing I ate on my trip.

Awesome fresh seafood, nice view. Variety of fish and fish dishes on daily base. Can definitely recommend the fish soup. We were in Stavanger for 3 nights and went there the first and last day again. As we were afraid to miss it. Good place for seafood lovers

This was one of the top 10 meals ever. Great view of the harbor. We had the chefs special 5 course. Cream fish soup, wild mushroom risotto, mussels in coconut curry broth, Hake with root veggies, and dessert tasted as beautiful as it look.

The amazingly tender whale steak

Fantastic restaurant serving only seafood. Located inside the fish market overlooking the water in a very casual setting. We had the amazingly tender & non-fishy taste whale steak (NOK279) and the very flavorful & mild green curry mussels (1kg @ NOK179) which I cleaned up the broth too. Simple but very well balanced dishes that is a MUST for everyone visiting Stavanger & a seafood fan!

King crabs are expensive, from frozen. Fish of the day over cooked. Too salty. Fish soup was ok.

Stopped in for lunch, and the fish soup is a meal that I'll be dreaming about until I get back to order it again.

Had the seafood chowder that was liquidy milky (not pudding type) and satisfying. It had shrimp, crab, clam and a bunch of herbs. The super soft bread and garlic ranch served with it matched. Lot of people were ordering the mussels and that would've been our next order but we had to meet friends elsewhere. Outside, it was festive and a little loud from the neighboring restaurant/club next door. I enjoyed it, but if you want more peace, go to the 2nd floor. Beautiful views. The large tourist ships stop right at front.

Skagen is the vegan friendly option for people wanting to eat on the waterfront in Stavanger…read more They have real food for non-vegans too. The real food people eat better than the vegans here. * * * The vegan options are heavy on soy meat substitutes. Pescatarian wife looked at all that soy substitute and went for fish with no sauce. Her fish with no sauce was pretty dull - and so was her vegan rhubarb dessert. She picked at her meal. * * * I was ready for a hardy Nordic feast. They offer "small" dishes and "large" dishes, but the "small" dishes are full size platters that will make you waddle home. I had the platter of gravad lax with rye bread, potato salad and mustard sauce on the side. Magnificent salmon. fine mustard sauce, rye bread to kill for and potatoes to provide contrast. Was the salmon better with or without the mustard sauce? I debated this question for hours. To assist me in my great ponderings was a magnificent glass of first rate aquavit. It was mild rather than forceful, and I like my spirits forceful. But things were eminently pleasant nonetheless. * * * We were in Stavanger the week after Summer Solstice. They aren't kidding when they talk about the land of the midnight sun. The sun never sets on the Stavanger waterfront. The golden light goes on for hours and hours and hours. The sun sets very slowly. With enough beer or aquavit in your system, you set very slowly. You watch the people walk up and down the docks. You comment on the state of humanity. You pick at the various juicy morsels still left on your plate. The sun hangs there golden and glorious. A fine way to spend an evening Assuming you are not trying to forget your soy sausage.
