I get inspired by these sort of body building gyms, as they are such a nice break from the CorePowers and Equinoxes of the world that I normally frequent... I'm basic af, I know. All the plates are iron, industrial fans cooling the place, huge mirrors everywhere, it's open 24 hours, machines you won't see anywhere else, and patrons are about their business and just EATING weights. I was probably the smallest person in here by 80 lbs, but they couldn't have been more welcoming. I paid a $20 day pass twice, and what I loved was they didn't try to sell me on joining the gym. I'm so sick of being upsold in literally every other area of my life. Something about handing that crispy $20 bill, signing a waiver I didn't read, and being able to have free reign of the gym was so refreshing. You go to a 24 Hour Fitness and get a day pass, it will take you 20 minutes of small talk and having to fake like you're considering joining before you can get to working out. 3 days later, my quads are STILL sore from one of those gnarly machines that I have never seen before, and will likely never see again. Essentially, I got six…read moremonths and during that time period, Beejay Brooks (my trainer) got me into pretty decent shape from a guy who looks like he's written 1620 Yelp reviews. Give that man a hand! That was some hard ass work. Speaking of work, Beejay had an excellent eye for determining whether you were at peak levels or whether you needed a day with a bit less intensity. He definitely gave a lot of attention to your macros and diet (far more than anyone I've worked with in the past). He's very no nonsense and that's probably not for everyone. If you aren't going to put in the hard work to manage your diet, you will fail and he will let you know it. But if you put in the work, you'd be very hard pressed to find a better trainer in San Antonio (I did work with some of the other trainers at Hasfit and I got to say they were all stellar). Overall, you are going to have to spend some coin (I was at just under $500/month) but when you start seeing the results of that spent money, you aren't going to miss it. You're going to be thankful for the transformative experience as you become fitter and healthier.

He mixes up different types of exercises every other week. Best part is the 5 min stretches we do at the beginning of each workout. I have learned several new excellent stretches. Jesse is a certified personal trainer and knows his science. The 1st two days was a free trial for me but after my 1st day I was already decided! I haven't been working out for over 3 years so I was not in the best of shape, but the great thing was that I was able to work out with the group without much trouble. Groups are small sizes and Jesse gives personal attention to everyone. I can't wait to continue my workouts for the next 6 months and get back in shape.

Alison was a great instructor even when pregnant! Props to you, girl! I enjoyed the intensity level of the class. I could go at my own pace on the rower, but I was taught how to measure my progress with the split level and the power. It made it easy to follow along but still challenge myself. It was my first time using TRX bands in a class so I felt a bit clumsy with them. Alison did a great job explaining it again to me when needed. Overall great experience for my 1st class and I'll book again! Side note: I also noticed they have a small gym area available for members to get a personal workout in. Only thing I'd suggest is to have some water cups available. Unfortunately, I forgot my water bottle in the car before class and didn't see any cups available at the water station. I was so parched during the workout, but made it through! Lastly, so great that they validate parking with the Hemisfair garage!

It's exactly the vibe I look for in a gym: a classic, no bullsh**, weights clangin and bangin, full of people who are putting in genuine hard work. Immediately upon arrival a member helped us locate the owner, Roger, who got us set up with some day passes. That alone blew me away because out here, anyone would have just let us look around lost. I'm getting really bad with names but if she's reading this I want her to know she's so appreciated. Roger was also awesome. He checked in on us once we were settled, chatted with us about what we were doing in San Antonio, and gave us recommendations for surrounding neighborhoods (we were there to check out homes for potentially moving). I always appreciate gym owners who take the time to get to know the people working out with them. It gives you that level of connection you miss out on with commercial gyms. The gym itself is not your fancy commercial gym. It's the same gym it has been the whole time with classic machines, dumbbells, racks, etc. There's plenty of room for a decent amount of people to be there at the same time and still get a great workout in. Random workout that made no sense, was just moving for movement sake. It's was a boxing gym so I…read morehad expected to get a bit of coaching on how to punch, but didn't receive any. The coach did not let us recover, get water, or ask if we had any injuries that would prevent us from doing certain exercises. He was distracted with other clients not in the group class as well. I left that night and not a single employee asked how the class was or tried to sign me up. I left with a pain in my knee when all I was looking for was something fun to start up for exercise.
