Joined this boot camp class two weeks ago and it's the best boot camp class I've been to so far. I…read moreattended boot camp classes in Park Ridge for a couple months prior (plus one in Vernon Hills), but this class still kicked my ass. I nearly died of exhaustion my first day and had to take a break because I was close to throwing up. I have slightly gotten better with the next few classes, but it's still very challenging. I always leave super sweaty and disgusting, just how it should be! I mainly attend the 6am class, and everyone there is friendly and supportive. I will say that I am probably the youngest one there and also the slowest one there... which actually is very motivating for me. I've only attended one night class, and the crowd there was very friendly as well. I like that the instructor, Larry, actually pays attention to the attendees and corrects form or tries to push you if need be. I've had instructors in the past that just casually run the class, regardless of how small the class size is. Some important notes to mention is that the class takes place at Libertyville Sports Complex, and you have access to the showers and locker room (bring your own towel and lock). This is big for those who do not live nearby, as I do not. I will also say that the locker room and showers are always very clean, which is a big plus for me. All in all, highly recommended!

I started at Conquer fight club in May, 8 months later and I've gone from 210 lbs to 185! I attend…read morethe 8:30 & 9:30 classes and so far every coach I've worked with has led a great class. Was able to run my first 5k thanks to coach Larry and his staff!

Eight weeks ago, I joined CrossFit Lake Zurich (shortly after they opened). Since that time, here…read moreare some changes I've noticed (prompting my review): * I have lost weight * I have gained muscle * I am leaner * I am stronger * I am faster * I've lost at least one dress size * I eat healthier (because I want to believe it or not - I feel better when I do) * I'm sore a lot of the time (ok, most of the time) * I don't care how stupid I look (trust me I look stupid) -- the results are worth it * I realized how out of shape I truly was * I see how out of shape others are too * I enjoy working out * I no longer feel the need to belong to a health club * I realized there are people around me who inspire me * My soon to be husband has now joined * I LOVE how I feel every single day - I walk taller, I sit straighter, I feel stronger, I feel better than I ever have mentally * I will never quit While I am no stranger to health clubs- from Ballys to Midtown Club and others in between (I once was competitive myself - marathons, tri's, etc.), I fell into work and into a boring day to day grind of boring workouts - I never saw results (which also got to be boring). Walking into CrossFit Lake Zurich was one of the best decisions I have ever made and let me just say that when I did walk in this place, it was just a "box" - some weights, kettlebells, barbells, not a whole lot. So obviously there is a lot to be said about the person behind this place but that is something you cannot figure out unless you give it a chance by walking in and trying it. By next year at this time (my 48th birthday), my goal is to be able to do a pullup - maybe even a few - and not something to be taken lightly. There are true athletes who work out here every single day and then there are people like me. Never rule out anything until you try it - that's all I can say. CrossFit Lake Zurich has changed my life in a very positive way. And to think... it's just a box. ;)

I have been coming to Blue Sky Yoga for kickboxing and yoga since April of this year and I…read moreabsolutely LOVE it here. All of the instructors bring unique teaching techniques to each class, keeping the classes engaging. Angie, the owner, is so high energy and brings so many positive vibes to each class - think Poppy from Trolls - I highly recommend taking her Monday morning class! The best part about Blue Sky is that everyone becomes a part of your extended family in such a short period of time. I love being a member here!! The only downfall is that there is only air conditioning in the yoga room, so I often found myself skipping kickboxing classes when the temperature crept towards the 80's and 90's, because I have no wish to faint during an exercise class. Other than that, you're truly missing out if you haven't scoped out this studio yet - AND THE FIRST CLASS IS FREE!!

This is the only studio in town that offers a free weekly community class. If that isn't enough to…read moreraise your curiosity, you haven't looked up the cost and schedules of other studios nearby. THIS IS THE ONLY STUDIO THAT OFFERS A FREE WEEKLY COMMUNITY CLASS. Blue Sky is worth checking out. It's a small studio storefront on Cook, near the shuttered Runners Edge store. You can park in the back or on the street. Your first class is always free. I tried a yoga class and then took advantage of the October special - $25 for a week of unlimited classes. I tried kickboxing, hot yoga, warm yoga, and I brought my husband and daughter in for a trial class as well. Bottled water and snacks are offered for a voluntary donation. Free small towels, use of mats & props, and free hot tea as you leave. Lexi Wynn yoga bags, yoga accessories and jewelry by local artists are also for sale. I've been in a rut at my gym so I checked out Blue Sky to see if mixing things up might get me motivated again. I tried & loved the kickboxing class because you are actually kicking and punching a bag. There is nothing as satisfying as finally getting to your workout and finding that your jab/uppercut has some oomph to it! Angie, the owner, teaches both kickboxing and yoga, and I've appreciated the sense of community she is trying to build both by being a resident of L'ville and business owner but also in taking the time to get to know her clients (by name) and connecting clients to the community. This month she was taking donations of gently used and new bras to donate to The Haven. Next month will be donations of non-perishable food items for the food banks (and free Friday Happy Hour yoga with a food donation!). She also offers some fusion classes, and family classes that would be great for parents with younger children. Prices are very competitive. And, a little secret. You can share a multi-class pass with family members! I actually had no intention of sharing my pass with my daughter and husband, but what a deal! My only fear? Blue Sky classes will get so full I will need to get to class early to save a spot! No worries. Just tell Angie that Kathy sent you. And save me a spot if you go!
