I nearly died of exhaustion my first day and had to take a break because I was close to throwing up. I have slightly gotten better with the next few classes, but it's still very challenging. I always leave super sweaty and disgusting, just how it should be! I mainly attend the 6am class, and everyone there is friendly and supportive. I will say that I am probably the youngest one there and also the slowest one there... which actually is very motivating for me. I've only attended one night class, and the crowd there was very friendly as well. I like that the instructor, Larry, actually pays attention to the attendees and corrects form or tries to push you if need be. I've had instructors in the past that just casually run the class, regardless of how small the class size is. Some important notes to mention is that the class takes place at Libertyville Sports Complex, and you have access to the showers and locker room (bring your own towel and lock). This is big for those who do not live nearby, as I do not. I will also say that the locker room and showers are always very clean, which is a big plus for me. All in all, highly recommended!

When I walked in, the owner warmly greeted me and introduced me to a few others. Immediately, four other members came and introduced themselves to me. The Box (gym) is wide open, with newer equipment, which is ALWAYS nice. The warm-up and instruction was fun and light hearted and the WOD was challenging (again, a perfect combination). If you live around this area (which has multiple crossfit options), I would highly recommend Carbon. My only complaint (and this is a National complaint) is the high charges for visiting crossfit members. We all pay a lot of money to be a member of our local box and it doesn't take a lot of work to add a visitor for an hour - I wish the theme of high charges was somehow addressed by the Crossfit community at large.

What I love most is that she provides Polar heart rate monitors to wear during the workout, and your heart rate zones are always projected on her TV in the gym. This is helpful when you're trying to not only get fit and burn calories, but get heart healthy, too! It's an excellent benchmark to see how far you've come, as well. She has a clean gym with tons of equipment; free weights/bar, dumbbells, medicine balls, ropes, jump ropes, resistance bands, TRX, rowing machine, pull up bar, boxes, you name it- she has it! Becka is wise beyond her years in nutrition and fitness. Most personal trainers focus only on your form and weight when you attend. She cares so much more about you than your weight. She encourages you to set attainable goals, and be more in tune with your well-being. She's gentle, kind and so knowledgeable! I'm so happy I've found her, and that she's just down the road from me, too! Give Becka a try, she offers a free first week, free coaching and workouts online, too! The perfect fitness and nutrition package is right here in Grayslake!

It's basically parents walking around hoisting their kids onto equipment that is behind their scope, and then having to hold them. There were no organized activities, save for the dodgeball game at the end. Even then, you couldn't even hear the instructor give directions. They would be better to have microphones. Instructor didn't seem like she was enjoying herself at all (no smiling). We started out in one area and then moved onto the next. My kids were bored in 10 minutes. They therefore went back to the first area, only to have an employee scold us for going back there because "it was already cleaned for the next group." We had no idea they were getting ready for another party. Again, it would have been better to politely say in a microphone prior to moving (so all can hear) that "we are moving on to another area and to not go back to the former as it's being prepared for another group." When we got to the eating area, one of the employees was so intrusive with the bussing of the table! She kept reaching out under *everyone* to get every little wrapper, juice box or a plate that appeared finished. For the love of God! This was so aggravating and other parents noticed as well. At least twice I had to tell her that my kids weren't finished. You couldn't even set something down without fear it would be taken right away! Another thing I found rude is that the employee announced coldly that the kids "couldn't get the cupcake until their pizza was finished." What the hell? This was not enjoyable at ALL, and my 2 boys (7 and 8) did not like this place one bit. We felt shoed out the door. Suggestion: Have employees who actually interact with the kids with organized games. Employees need a microphone as well, for announcements. Smile and cease the cold and demeaning comments. When in the eating area, PLEASE let parents and children eat in peace. Clean up afterwards, not during!!

I felt that the classes were a great workout to, but I didn't like the setup of the room -- due to the direction the windows face, they get blazing sunlight. As a result, the window shades were closed -- I like natural light. To compound matters, both classes I attended were done in the the dark with a blue/black light type atmosphere that just didn't do it for me. Because the studio is in an office building, the bathrooms are outside the studio and managed by the building -- they didn't have soap the time I used them... I really did like the workout, just didn't love the vibe from the setup and the class scheduled didn't meet my current schedule. I do, however, encourage you to go to the studio and give it a try -- you will get a GREAT WORKOUT!
