Super modern, bright and clean studio with modern HIIT and strength-training equipment. Great instructors also.

I've only taken the Glute Therapy classes, and have only had Jess and Emile as my trainers, but they are AMAZING.

I would likely return with a group again but it's quite pricey so a membership isn't in my current budget when I would still have to supplement this workout with others. I can say that 24 hours later I'm sore in places I forgot existed

My dislike wasn't just because of the awkwardness everyone experiences during the first class (though admittedly, I felt like I sucked at everything at first, heh). It was because I considered the prices for regular classes to be pretty steep for a class that doesn't even last an hour. Not to mention the Pure Barre branded stuff everywhere (which of course is typical of any gym franchise), the cheesy pop music and the fact that the stretching didn't seem to be enough (you can stretch on your own, obviously). I thought it was really just a glorified exercise class that you can get anywhere and didn't really see what the fuss was. And now after 10 classes, I'm hooked on the burn. They say that it takes about 3 classes to get the precision of the moves down (think tiny, intense movements) and that's about right. Now, I find myself doing these exercises just about anywhere. It's strangely addictive to clench your muscles like this. It's a fast, intense workout. Time may seem to stand still as your muscles are shaking, yet it goes by so rapidly that the class is over in the blink of an eye. You may feel that it's so fast that surely this isn't enough of a workout and what the hell did you just spend 25 bucks a class for? But it is. It's a great way to tone that body up (though you'd definitely want to supplement the workout with cardiovascular exercises to keep yourself in tip top shape). People liken it to a combination of yoga, pilates and ballet. I actually don't really see anything too much in common with yoga. Ballet, absolutely, for you're standing at a barre doing pliés which totally kill your thighs. I've never taken pilates before, so I can't remark on that. The teachers are great overall, and of course you will like some more than others. I tend to prefer the teachers that give you some kind of countdown and verbal encouragement throughout. Once the teacher becomes silent, people are more apt to rest, which you don't want to do b/c working the muscles to fatigue is kind of the point (and many will tell you this). Other good stuff: the studio is spotless, fans are plentiful, and the staff is nice. FYI, the price goes down if you buy 5, 10, and 20 sessions at a time. I just bought my next 10 classes. This is a great supplement to yoga and cardio workouts. I yearn for a gym in this city that offers both good classes and equipment, but until there is, I'll be working out at my bare bones gym, Pure Barre and various yoga studios When you compare Pure Barre to yoga, the price is kind of astronomical. (At Life yoga, 90 minute classes as low as 8-10 dollars a pop) but they do have promotional specials and in March, if you take 20 classes you are eligible for a month of unlimited at 100.00, which is pretty sweet.

They bring new work outs to every class, which keeps it fun, interesting and fresh. They combine stretching, core work, cardio, and strength into every boot camp class. There are numerous classes every day at multiple locations, so it's easy to fit it into schedule. The work outs are scaleable so they are great for any fitness level - pro to beginner. They combine classic moves like push ups, sit ups, and squats with jump rope, burpees and kettle bell swings to engage the full body. Chelsey and Shane do a great job of making people feel welcome and creating a community. They share additional online work outs to add to your routine - at no additional cost. They also share healthy recipes, community events, local races, and monthly challenges to keep everyone working towards their goals. I highly recommend GGB!

What i love most about Girls Gone Buff is that it's for every woman. One of the first things i…read morenoticed when i started going to their classes is how inclusive it is. You'll see every body type and age group working out with you. You'll see women bring their pups and their kids to class (never in a distracting way; but rather i appreciate seeing this because it means that no matter what they WANT you there and for nothing to stand in-between bettering yourself). I can come to class with cat hair on my yoga pants and not feel like i'm being judged. Which in my life working from home, this is a priority. There are multiple different class times and locations to choose from every week day. You don't have to sign up yearly and can go month-to-month which was a big bonus to me since i work seasonally out of state for a few months of the year. You will work harder and push yourself more than you ever could on your own because you are surrounded by women that are not going to quit. That means you can't quit. Chelsey and Shane make sure to walk you through the new exercises and they look out for you and your form. If you have a preexisting injury, they will help choose alternate exercises for you. I've always been more of a runner/pilates type person and crossfit dream baes intimidated and slightly confused me. But here i am friggin' jumpin' rope, doing burpees, whirling kettlebells around and am now bringing in all my groceries in one trip because i'm getting STRONGER. These classes are so worth it. Come join us! Bonus points if you suck at jumping rope. You can come stand by me!

I had been doing kickboxing training with Brian for over a year at another gym when he told me that he and a business partner, Brandon, were opening their own gym on Tchoup. So I followed him there and have been taking TRX, Kettlebell, and various other cardio and circuit training classes pretty regularly. TRX is something that everyone in NOLA who likes to eat, but does not like being fat, should get into. It is effective for everyone from frail grannies to muscled-up ex-navy seals (who developed the system). Drew Brees endorses it (and uses it), so that alone should convince you to try it. Kettlebell training with Brandon will make you strong. Not stare-at-your-arms-in-the-mirror-while-you-do-curls strong, but real functional strength. No machines, just your body moving itself and an object in dynamic, natural movements with your core and stabilizing muscles working the whole time. I was trying to think of an adequate metaphor/simile to describe the results I've experienced from my training at Cypress, and the best I could come up with was "These abs! I look like a white D'Angelo circa 'Untitled (How does it feel).'" Is that too obscure an early '00s R&B video reference? Maybe. Suffice it to say that the trainers at Cypress Fitness will motivate you to get in great shape, in a completely judgment-free, supportive, accessible and fun environment. This is not a chain-franchise-Anytime-Riviera gym -- it is a gym run by people who care about your health, designed for people who want to achieve their better selves.
