I'm training here at the moment thanks to a scoopon deal, and I'm seriously considering joining up for the year. The location is very easy to get to, and there are parking spaces just outside the member's door (back door). Upon entering, I was shocked at how large the place was; from the outside you would think it was just a small room with a couple of mirrors and equipment. It's actually a really nice set up, the gym feels wide and open thanks to the second story being more of an indoor balcony- allowing you to be on the lower level and enjoy the high ceiling. The upstairs area consists your cardio equipment- all equipment is new and state-of-the-art, with inbuilt personal televisions. The down stairs area offers resistance machines, boxing area and free weights/ weights area. This is a great clean gym that is small compared to the likes of fitness first. However it is large enough to workout, but small enough to feel community based. The only downside is their lack of lockers. They have shelves where you can store your belongings, however it's not locked and anyone could go through your bag. This doesn't really bother me though as it is still technically a 'small' gym, and there are only ever a handful of people inside at the anytime.

Go there if you will but be aware of their antics. I provided this group with a medical certificate saying this gym was not fit for my purpose. I have been harassed by debit companies and have now received a letter threatening me with court proceedings. I point out that the best level of instruction I received was by a student. My joints ached from attempting to shift bolts in to position. I had pain from my sacrum to knee for six months following my last attendance. Staff turned their backs when I called for support. And, they are hounding me during COVID for back fees. I am 66 years old. This company did nothing to assess suitability and fitness prior to wheedling money from me. There grins are dark with money lust and betrayal.

The music isn't blasting around the clock and with music videos all over the walls. Nah, you're here to work out in a good, clean, peaceful environment. No attitude from the patrons or staff. The members help keep this gym stay clean by putting stuff away and being courteous. The staff aren't running up and down, stopping you in between workouts to sell you "________." They are there when you need them, they make sure the place is running smoothly, make recommendations when asked. This is a very good gym.

Even during peak times the gym does not seem to be over subscribed with ample space for all users & no waiting for equipment. Always a nice & clean workout environment & thankfully no PTs walking around trying to pressure you into buying sessions with them. The other beauty is that it really is anytime access, there are safety alarm pendants if you feel vulnerable working out on your own during the unstaffed hours. So far I'm very happy with this place & now with over a months membership to my name I'm able to use other branches of Anytime Fitness if I find myself needing to workout in another suburb!!!

DIRTY GYM WITH MANAGEMENT WHO CANT BE TRUSTED WITH YOUR BANK DETAILS…read more Nobody reads long reviews so here are the headlines. Dead mice on the gym floor. Used syringes in the men's toilets. Dog sh*t and p*ss on the floor the classes are meant to roll around on. Management who will continue to charge you for a membership you cancelled within their terms and ignore you when they realise they got away with it. I actually liked this gym when I joined, the place was cool, nice atmosphere, a good change if your bored of the average chain gym. BUT the place is just dirty. I was there for less than 6 months and I seen so many dogs sh*t and p*ss on the floor in the middle of the gym, yeah the green strip where everyone is to roll about. Sure they spray it with some kind of cleaner but I still wouldn't be down there! I found a dead mouse on the gym floor and thought I would be nice enough to tell the management about it before anyone else seen it, she thought it was hilarious there was a dead animal in her gym.... I only every used the upstairs toilet twice and one of the times there was a used syringe in the cubical, its difficult to stop drug use in a gym but this wasn't even subtle, clearly the toilets don't get checked regularly. Now in a time that cleanliness is more important that ever due to coronavirus I would not be stepping foot in this gym! If they cant even keep dead animals and needles out how can you expect them to keep an invisible virus out. I let these things slide when I was training there but once I left (with 30 days' notice) they continued to charge both me and my girlfriend for our memberships. We emailed them with attachments of the payments and the notice of cancellation and got a response the same day, Wendy acknowledged this should not have happened and she would refund the money that day... that was over a month ago. One of the personal trainers actually warned us this would happen, when we mentioned to him that we were only there for 6 months he told us to make sure we cancel with 30 days' notice because management are good are good at forgetting to cancel the direct debit. We emailed again after 3 week and one of the staff Montana replied on the same day again acknowledging this was wrong and she would raise it with management that day, no response from Wendy again. Last email I sent was letting them know that if there was no response or plan to return the money by 30/04/2020 I would accept that they have no intention of returning the money. Here we are 07/05/2020 and my inbox is as empty as my bank account. Wendy you have our bank details, do the right thing.

I was gifted a corporate gym membership; of which sadly had to be returned after six months of use. Although in saying this, I was fortunate to enjoy two casual classes two weeks ago as the company I used to work for had failed to cancel my membership here. An abundant bonus. The classes are exceptional, and so are the instructors - especially Brandon on a Friday afternoon when you join him at 5:30pm for Body Attack, and with him again at 6:30pm for Body Balance - two fantastic Les Mills workouts, and he is a great start to the weekend. The reception staff defy the service you would normally receive from chain stores - they actually know your name and thus greet you by your name the moment they see you before handing in your membership card to be swiped. And when you misplace your card; it is usually immediately ready to re-collect. The launch classes of new releases on the Les Mills workouts are always so much fun. There is a different theme for each new release where you might have to dress up in halloween clothes for instance, and sometimes instructors run special classes for fundraising purposes where you cannot get in without a gold coin donation. Something Brandon did on one of his Friday afternoon Body Attack classes which went for a marathon 90 minutes once; instead of the normal 60 minutes which is intense enough.

Need I say more? The PTs can write you up a program and are always on hand to help when you can't quite remember how to do that burpie. Excellent boxing equipment and classes. Attracts a wide community (because of its great vibe and staff!), covering the macho dudes to the distinguished and refined. PT sessions are also available, which sometimes look more like bootcamp (fancy to pull a tyre anyone?)

I have been going to Healhy fit for a month regularly and never had to wait for a machine to be available once. The trainers are very welcoming and will make sure you will feel at home, plus the initial assessment I got was very beneficial and insightful. Whether you want to go to a place that has a large selection of classes, or, like me, want to have your headphones-in and hammer away like the lone wolf that you are, healthy fit is a great place to be.

Feels bigger than the other Anytime gyms. Lots of new equipment, about a dozen cardio machines, machine weights, free weights and Olympic lifts. The place is well looked after - clean bathrooms & showers, plants are watered etc. There's also a few little things that sets it apart: - a guest entrance so non-members don't get *beeped* at that they've tailgated someone inside - as if getting up the motivation to visit a gym isn't traumatic enough already. - Disposable sanitising wipes for the equipment so it's super easy to clean up after your work out - "jukebox" on the wall so you can line up your most motivating workout beats, not just a radio with annoying ads - fans that you can turn on and off without having to ask for staff assistance Weekday morning staff is awesome, weekend morning staff very casual. Have not been in the evening. Rated 4 stars as the class offerings are limited at the moment, but overall, the thoughtful touches that makes it a little easier to not flake out on going to gym.

They have a fantastic boot camp class that is run at night (awesome), and there is no shouting involved (even more awesome.) So if you are looking around for someone to kick your butt but at convenient hours, I can highly recommend you take one of Mind & Body's classes. The only thing that really knocks this place down a few notches is their windows. I look like absolute hell when I'm going to the gym, and I sure don't look pretty on the treadmill (think frizzy hair and a bright red face) so why on earth would I want to be in full view of every idiot walking down Johnston Street?! The equipment is literally pushed up against the front windows, perhaps I'm shallow but that's a bit of a turn off.

I noticed that there were a few gyms on Johnston Street, but By Design really caught my attention because of the 'no contract' status of your membership. I think that is so totally refreshing, someone who won't try to lock you in for a year or two. The gym itself is small, but i love that i can turn up at any time (even the dreaded after work period) and still have access to most of the equipment i need. Coming from Fitness First, i would honestly have to wait for machines to free up before i could do my workout. By Design is your cool local gym that you want to be apart of, Staff are genuine and machines are top-notch. As Jackie D says below, the windows are a bit of a turn off, but i just put my tunes on and tune out. Usually does the trick for me!
