American Fitness is a huge gym occupying a large part of the top floor of Karstadt in Hermannplatz…read more It's a massive space and holds every possible type of equipment. There are 2 reasonable size studios, one for spinning and the other for aerobics and so on. There is also quite a large free weights area and an outdoor terrace with a decent view of Hermannplatz. Another plus is the huge wellness area, with a large sauna and roof terrace. So, American Fitness has pretty much everything you need in a gym, but the place doesn't have too much atmosphere as it's so big and feels empty most of the time - great if you want to train in complete isolation, but no so great if you like to have a chat now and again between sets. Another minor gripe is that there is a culture of leaving weights lying all over the place. They are not marked very well, so when it gets busy, it's really difficult to find the set you want. Still, it's a really cheap gym - you can get 3 months for EUR120. For what you get, it's a steal.

Usually if the person wants, he/she could have a pre tour before they actually become a member of the gym. I skipped that, because I know my own routine and just wanted to have a look of the gym. I think the gym is pretty nice, they got many different training equipments for cardio or muscle gaining, no need worried to many people and too less equipment s to use. There is a room just for the muscle trainer, full of heavy equipments, which some I haven't seen in my previous fitness studio. I did try most of them out by now. I think most of them quite effective and fun to work with. Probably not a place for beginner though. If you just start to do training, probably better just stay with the equipment in the main room first. Wait until you body is ready for the next level of challenge. I think many different types of equipment there as well, they are all useful tool. People can do full body training here, not just gaining muscle but lost weight, I like to hang out this area as well. And there is a room for lady, they called it lady room. I'm not sure what they do there and I don't know anyone. I guess probably some cardio training sort of thing. And there is the course room at the corner. For this even for a member will need to pay extra. Probably they offer a different membership for this, if you really need this. I'm got the regular one. I think this is quite a nice gym with a great sign up fee. They also offer a starter package for the member. Well, although the person has to pay extra of it, it is still nice thing to have. In the gym also got a drinks station that basically that where you can get water or water with other flavors, snack machine right at the back. The gym is really considered, it got bathroom as well. There is not WIFI yet for the member to use it, but I think that won't be a problem, since most people will just focus on training here. I like it, this is a great place for training. And as a member, also allowed to go to the other FitX fitness studio no matter where, it doesn't have to be the same place, really convenient!

Alles gut, I paid the full year, 4 days have passed and they haven't reactivated my account. Called yesterday and the girl on the phone was like (it has only been x days, call on friday if you don't hear from us) YOU have my money already, move the process. I want to share a very mixed experience with Holmes Place Germany…read more First, the positive part: I am actually very happy with the club itself. I like the facilities and have enjoyed being a member. My problem is with the way my long-term memberships have been sold and subsequently handled. This is now the **second time** I have experienced essentially the same situation with Holmes Place. When I was considering a long-term membership, I was reassured that if I later needed to leave, the membership could be transferred and another customer could take it over. That reassurance made it much easier for me to agree to a long-term commitment. Then, when I actually needed to leave, the position changed. The first time this happened, I had to write several letters before Holmes Place eventually resolved the situation. Now it has happened again. Holmes Place has confirmed in writing that a transfer is possible -- but says that **I must personally find the new customer**. I find this extremely troubling. If customers are encouraged to sign long-term contracts by being reassured that there is a practical way out, and that reassurance changes once the contract has been signed, I consider that a deeply misleading sales practice. Once could perhaps be a misunderstanding. Experiencing essentially the same thing twice is much harder for me to dismiss that way. I have now formally escalated the case to Holmes Place senior management and asked them to resolve it. I am also submitting the case to the relevant German consumer-protection bodies so that they can examine whether this kind of sales practice is acceptable. Again: I like the club. This is not a complaint about the gym itself. It is about how customers are persuaded to make long-term financial commitments and what happens when they later rely on what they were told. I will update this post with Holmes Place's response.

Until March I paid every single month despite the clubs being closed because they claim "that´s the law" and since I´m not german I kind of have to accept it. Now in June I´m being charged again, even though I have a confirmation that everything was cancelled in March. I wrote multiple times to the customer service but the only thing I get is a pre-made texts and a lot of bs not related to my situation.
