Nice beach - just park on it…read more This is a lovely, long and wide stretch of sand. No need to look for a parking lot, since you can park ON the beach. Some people here are fishing, some are surfing and some (like us) just enjoy the scenery. Be aware that the western side (from the car entrance) is not pet-friendly, while the eastern side is. Also from here you can get a good look at the Mussenden Temple (featured in GoT also). This beach here was a filming location for GoT - Dragonstone, where the Seven Idols of Westeros were burned. We did arrive here quite late and wished we would have had more time to enjoy this very laid-back beach. There were surprisingly few visitors that day. Not sure it's always like that though.

It is also accessible from the main road and enjoys ample car parking. The panorama from the beach is spectacular. It's also one of the dwindling number of north coast beaches to retain its blue flag status so if you don't fancy paddling in a weak sewage solution then choose this beach for your summer days out. This is my favourite thing about Portstewart Strand - you can drive your car on and park for the day. So no having to lug your pic nic, towels, buckets and spades from the car to the beach. Just open the car door and let it all fall out. If anyone gets cold or tired, they can just jump in the car and snuggle down for a while. You have to pay for what is definitely a privilege - just £4.50 to drive on and park for the day and if you go off season when the facilities are closed, you don't have to pay at all. I for one have no problem paying the National Trust £4.50 to park in a truly spectacular car park. So, the facilities - what exactly is there? Probably the best facilities I have seen at a beach anywhere in Northern Ireland. Clean toilets, showers and first aiders, as well as a shop where you can but sweets and drinks and last minutes buckets and spades. Join the National Trust, and I have promised myself I will this summer, and you can drive onto the beach as many times as you want without having to pay.

Honestly, I find it almost physically painful to go there but my children get so much unadulterated pleasure from it that I grit my teeth and go. They don't see the heaving crowds, the film of god knows what on the top of the water and the toddlers with dangerously loose swim nappies. They don't hear the ear splitting noise or feel the cold blasts of cold air. What they see is the large pool with a Jacuzzi along one side, the water slides and best of all the huge pirate ship in the middle of the second pool, complete with water blasters, slides and rope climbs. When I describe it like that I can see why they love it so much. If your kids can swim, they will just love this place. You could still take non swimmers but you'll have to be very vigilant and follow them the whole time as they can go under the pirate ship where the water is about 4 feet deep. If your kids can be left unattended, you can have a rest in one of the Jacuzzis which are for adults only. Tinies can also enjoy the paddling pool. I am a bit of a germ phobe and thought the changing rooms and toilets could have been cleaner on our last 2 visits. Here's my top tip - if you are going during the summer hols, ring ahead and ask if they have a summer scheme booked in that day. If they say yes, then don't go as it will be unbearably busy. Ask which days there are no summer schemes expected and go then instead. You'll spend a couple of hours there so at about £16 for a family of four, it's pretty good value for money and will totally exhaust the kids for the rest of the day.

Roe valley country park is the most tranquil place that i have ever been! Not easily impressed.it takes alot to for me to say YES..there is miles of walking and one day will never cover the whole park however u will have a wonderful experience with the miles that you do cover the fishermen will love it, the walkers will say HAPPY DAYS and the people just looking for something different will enjoy the time out. I took my children and though it was long for them ( I would advise a picnic) They loved it! So much from bat caves to the old bridges over the riverDefinitely a hidden treasure! A MUST SEE!

The course is so beautiful, so scenic, she never got bored. The other great thing is you can play the Championship-level course. They offered the opportunity to play the course 4 days after the tourney, and with championship tees for £190. Awesome. I wished we had stayed longer, as you can get a whole week in the summer for £150. Fall and spring is £90 and winter is £60. Since it only gets into the mid 40s in the winter, I'll be back. Also, the Club did a great job with the Irish Open. The links course was immaculate and held up in the wind and the constant drizzle of rain.
