I'm so happy to be able to share such a great gym with you, it's so local, and not built to be a massive organisation - more like a close friend who helps you active your fitness goals. If you're thinking twice about it - go for a 7 day trial, and they'll let you in for a week to try out the facilities totally free of charge. They have group fitness classes included in the membership, unfortunately they're not at the best times - but it gives you a reason to try to get out of work early. They start around 6pm, and they also have morning classes if you're conditional to yawns. They just went through a big renovation, so all the facilities are schmick, polished, and brand spanking new - Love this place (just wish I went more often)

There are 3 classrooms, one for Crossfit type workouts, 1 for spin classes and 1 for all the rest. Then there are the cardio, weight and stretching areas and there is a sauna too. The thing that won me over was the blue lighting in the yoga studio with the sounds of the waves in the distance on very windy days. The instructors have been great and there are heaps of classes throughout the day. I also love the equipment they have. To compare it to the other gyms, it is more expensive but way better. I have been to Plus Fitness in Alexandria and the CBD. The CBD has great classes (Alexandria has none to my knowledge) but it is quite small and the equipment is not great. I also went to a gym in Marrickville that was taken over by fitness playground so no point in mentioning it as I am sure it must be different now. In conclusion, you get what you pay for here. Hint, look for someone trying to get out of their membership on Gumtree or wait for a promotion to avoid the sign up fee.

My favourite is BikeAsana which is 30 minutes of hectic bike work followed by 30 mins of stretchy, relaxy yoga. Perfectly balanced. The music (especially Shannon's iTunes) is actually stuff I enjoy working out to and the trainers are great. Also, I think these are the first spin bikes that haven't given me the post-spin bum bruise. They're actually comfortable! Like Ying says, there is a community vibe here. They throw Xmas parties, put on movies, have a progression sticker chart and also a lounge area where you can use Wi fi and sip coconuts. If you want to do your own training, you'll be disappointed because its classes only. This suits me fine 'cos that's all I do. The only drawbacks are that it's expensive and maybe not great if you get a bit bored of spin and yoga. All in all its 4 stars from me.

The crowd here is super fit and low-key, the gym in Westfield is full of the Instagram show ponies and I often feel like it's hard to get my workout done because it's so busy almost any time I go there. Here, I can come in, do my thing and go. It's clean. It's well equipt. I like the layout of the weight room too. I feel like I have to come on here and defend my little gym, lol. What I don't like? The cardio floor. I really hate doing my cardio here. Something about the vibe is off. If I must do indoor cardio, I use the other gym.

A few treadmills, a few cycles, a few ellipticals and enough strength training equipment that would all fit inside of one of the mega-gym's group exercise rooms. And this is exactly why I love it. Speaking of group exercise, they have a few classes a week of boxing, TRX and beach bootcamps. Monthly rates depending on your commitment range from $150 to $80ish.
