I joined Fitness Plus almost 2 years ago when I moved back to Calgary. It's in my neighbourhood, which makes it convenient and difficult to ignore on the way home from work. Fitness Plus has the potential to be such a great gym! Unfortunately there are a few things holding it back. Things I like: Great location. Can usually find parking in the lot out front or nearby. They have a great area to work out in if you like using free weights. Lots of mirrors and equipment on the first floor. They have great classes! This is important to me...sometimes I lack motivation! If I go to a class, I know I won't be tempted to leave part way through the work out. The Ripped classes are excellent and most of the instructors are fantastic (Bonnie, Ivy, Lesley...) People who go to Fitness Plus are generally pretty friendly. There's a Second Cup next door...so you can grab a coffee and/or a snack after your workout. Things that need improvement: Cleanliness. I have noticed that the floors in the room where the classes are held is often dirty. The cardio equipment and mats are often dusty or have dried sweat on them, leading me to believe that there probably isn't a regular cleaning schedule. Kind of gross considering the amount of the people working out there. Most of the cardio equipment is very old. The exercise bikes are in rough shape as well as some of the elliptical trainers. Pedals strokes are uneven and not smooth and some of the computers don't function properly. The treadmills seem a bit better, although one of them started to smoke and emitted and electrical smell when my husband was using it last week. I've pretty much given up on using the cardio room for these reasons. The change room (ladies)... even though there are signs that say that you can't leave your stuff in the lockers overnight, its seems that many people do it anyways. This can make it tricky to find an unoccupied locker. If Fitness Plus updated their cardio equipment and did a better job at keeping the facility clean, it would be a much better gym. This gym is decent. I purchased a one year membership at a charity silent auction, and it is close to work, so I checked it out. I'm an early morning (6am) workout person, so nearly all of my gym visits were then. The only early class they have is Spin, 2 days per week - and it's a good class, but tough. It's pretty quiet in the mornings, with a smattering of maybe 20 people most days, primarily older. The parking lot is small, but I think a lot of people walk over, so it's not bad. Most of the equipment is ok; decent, working, but old and maybe a little tattered. The couple times I did go later in the day it was busier and tougher to find parking, and there were quite a few more "serious" gym-goers, making a lot of the equipment busy as well. They do have a daycare, which I never used so can't comment on quality, hours, etc. Overall, ok. I probably won't renew at the $600 annual price once my one year is up. read more

Bought my second 1 year membership and I'm so glad to be back. Everyone is friendly, the facility is clean and there are lots of workout options from the beginner to the all out exercise guru. The trainers are top notch and listen to what you want to achieve while you are there but are firm and will put you though your paces to reach your goal. I love a good family owned gym. Despite not having the same presence as other chains this gym is well worth the money. It is so big for the number of people who attend that I've never had to wait for equipment. The atmosphere is really welcoming. Staff are laid back, competent and super friendly. The crowd seems great too- I have some older family that come here just because they find other gyms too intimidating. My main drawback is that I'd like to see some updates to the equipment and facility... It seems like the treadmills are always under repair. Still- this place gets the job done so I can't complain too much. read more

Racquet Network staff never fail to refer squash players who live in this area to Fitness Plus. They have three clean courts and a group of about 60 active players. Most of these players are men, but there are a decent number of women, too. In addition to a house box league, Fitness Plus is home to several teams in the Calgary Interclub Squash League. Prices here are fair. Facilities are good. Staff are friendly. read more

Overall Brutal Experience! Definitely not the nicest, cleanest gyms around however I did overlook some of the needed improvements because the fee's were reasonable - $500 for the year, paid up front. Good news: The classes are very good overall; spin, yoga, set, etc. Good instructors, convenient times. Most people will leave you alone to do your workout without bother Bad News: When my vehicle was broken into, in their parking lot, just outside the front doors there was no one to assist me. The gal at the front desk shrugged her shoulders and gave me the number for the police...Fine not much they could do at the at point. The owner however COULD CARE LESS!! I didn't receive a phone call, apology, guest pass etc. When it can time to renew my membership I explained my situation to the manager; my first year at Fitness Plus cost me $900 ($500 + $400 to replace stolen items)...she shrugged her shoulders and said she would discuss with the owner and he would call me back. No one has called me back. I own a business and if any customer had their property destroyed as a result of choosing to do business with with me my actions would be significantly different. Mr Love only cares about your membership fees! Do not expect a facility that will be kept tidy, sanitary or efficient and definitely do not expect a safe environment. If you're looking for a gym membership look elsewhere. read more

Pluses: Never too crowded. Minuses: -They allow people (lots) to leave their locks on the lockers overnight, often for months on end. This is supposed to be not allowed but happens all the time. So it is very difficult to find a locker to use, as they all have locks on them. This, even when there may only be one or two other people in the place. -They used to have very friendly cheerful staff. But in the last few months those people all disappeared and now they have a bunch of teenagers working there. The men, one especially, is only there to talk to "chicks". He wants nothing to do with men. In fact, I don't think he wants much to do with anyone there unless he has a chance of picking them up. And he's a jerk. -People that go there are nice, but the staff not so much. Most of the time they are chatting with each other and want nothing to do with the customers. -They do not clean the locker rooms / shower area until after the place is closed. So if you go in the evening it is often filthy. As you walk out of the shower by the time you get to your locker your feet will be filthy. read more

Everyone that works here AND works out here is always friendly and nice!!! Older crowd works out here so it's relaxing, and tons of equipment and space. Always very sanitary and clean. I've been going here for years, and so did other members of my family. Would recommend this gym to anyone. Avoid Goodlife!!! read more

Good gym, good staff. Not overly busy which is nice you can get in and out in under 2 hours which can be challenging at corporate gyms.

Coming up on our 30th year of being members. We love working out here. We feel respected, comfortable and supported by the great staff. The equipment is excellent and updated regularly. Fitness Plus is such a positive place. read more

If you want results, this is the place. I have been coming to the gym since May 2016. I was overweight and way out of shape. I started going two days a week with a personal trainer (Jesse), Tuesdays and Thursdays, I adjusted my diet to trying to eat healthy during the week and cheat on the weekends. I lost 25 lbs in about 3 months, which may not sound impressive but I also built up muscle and look like a fit athlete not just a skinny guy... Jesse was and still is my trainer (Jan 2017), I have increased my workouts to 3-4 times a week with a trainer to try and get rid of some stubborn fat on my stomach, I have also stopped cheating on my food plan on the weekend, I still eat mostly what I want but then make sure I don't over do it or do it too often ... This gym has everything you need in equipment and many different rooms to work out in, it has a spinning room, treadmill and elliptical room, yoga/class room/ 2 main gyms and one back room gym, daycare, squash courts, locker rooms, steam shower, tanning beds. If you live or work out close by its great. The staff is awesome and they remember you if you come at least twice a week. I recommend absolutely getting a trainer, you just have to show up at the gym and let them do all the thinking and setup of equipment, they know exactly what exercises or work outs to do to maximize your time and body. It also gives you accountability, it is a little more expensive but the results are the key ! I believe any money spent on yourself is worth it especially if it helps your health and quality of life! I went from dreading hiking and going for walks, now I'm planning all the hikes and day trips I couldn't do before because of my physical limitations... so much to say, if you want to ask me more I'm usually at the gym Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 3:00-5:00pm! read more

I've been a member for a couple of years. The equipment is adequate and in good repair. The facility is showing its age and is not kept very clean. Cleaning rags that are used to wipe down equipment are torn and soiled. It seems like something is broken on a regular basis. There is a smell in the mens locker room that won't go away, poor ventilation. Late last year they had no hot water for a week which meant cold showers after the work out. The sauna has been out of order for days or weeks a number of times over the past couple of years. I like the staff and the other members but I had to bail on this place read more
