I've been going to the Fitness SF Marin location for four years now and it's easily one of the best gyms in the area. The facility is always clean, the equipment is modern and well-maintained, and there's plenty of space so it never feels overcrowded even during busy hours. The locker rooms are also really nice and kept in great condition. One of the highlights of this location is the staff. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and you can tell they genuinely care about creating a good environment for members. Nick in particular stands out. He's always helpful, professional, and brings great energy to the gym. Whether it's answering questions or just making people feel welcome. Additionally, Fitness SF outperforms the local competition; five points fitness, body kinetics, and the bay club all have worse hours, higher prices, and worse equipment (significantly worse regarding five points) If you're serious about building your physique, or just want a high quality, friendly environment to work out in, this gym is right for you If you or anyone you know truly believes an alternative gym in Marin is better than Fitness SF, your IQ is most likely lower than your bench. BUT! That's ok! Switch to Fitness SF and our community and equipment will get you right, physically and mentally. I know for a fact if you come here for just one month you'll never want to switch back to your old gym. Overall, its a fantastic place to work out. Great equipment, great atmosphere, and great staff. I would say Fitness SF - Marin is more of a 3.5 stars, but doesn't have those intangibles where I would round up to 4 stars. Usually when I asses a gym there are several key variables I consider or weigh in joining or motivating me to want to routinely workout. These variables are newness or quality of the equipment, size of the facility and spacing of the equipment, how crowded and attitude of the folks that work out, the employees and how personability they are, and price and cleanliness for what you get. The pluses I like about Fitness SF-Marin, is the employees and the trainers I've engaged with were all nice and respectfull and seemed to want to help out where they could. Additionally the pricing is very reasonable and cheaper if you go with a yearly membership on a month by month average. The place is clean from what I can tell and an added benefit for me is this location is quite proximal to where I live. The drawbacks to this gym and is the obvious footprints size density or tightness. I get what they want to achieve if they have more equipment it'll allow more people access to those said equipment. To that point of equipment, the equipment they have is a bit antiquated and not modernized with latest bio-mechanical movements. A rememedy to make it larger is to use the area outside and buld-out to incorporate that footprint for covered area workout. I'm sure easier said than done. Since things are so tight its overly dense with people just moving around and getting space and access to both fee and machine weights, coupled by lots of high schoolers congregating. Overall Fitness SF-Marin isnt a bad place to work out, and in fact I enjoy it, but there are obvious changes they could do to really elevate this place. read more

I joined the fitness center as my PT at Kaiser said I should join a gym. I went to four then went to fitness SF and spoke with Abhi May about my physical condition and he recommended Toni Dee. I started the day before Christmas, never used weight machines like these before and was very uncomfortable. I would think I can't do this. I had no strength, osteoporosis, extra. I Could not get off the floor and it was hard to get out of bed or stand up after sitting at a restaurant. Toni Dee has worked with me, better than my PT, and has been so patient with me, and I had worked up my confidence and strength. If it wasn't for Toni Dee, I could not imagine where I would be now. I think it is important, especially for senior women to start getting in shape before it is too late. It is best to have an experienced trainer like Toni Dee, so you do not get hurt working on the machines without proper form. Toni Dee is the best and I owe her my life. I will keep working with her. Oh, no problem standing up or getting up off the floor anymore. I am getting stronger read more

My first time ever getting a personal trainer and Nora's training expertise is phenomenal. Her ability to listen and attune to her client's goals and concerns is unparalleled. She has helped me navigate the gym machines, make sure I have good form with heavy lifting, and tailored specific exercises to meet my goals. She has helped me redefine what rep failure means me and I will continue to work with her as long as I can. I throw out multiple questions each session which she is able to consider and answer with ease. Such a valuable, hardworking, thoughtful trainer. I find her direction and input easy to understand and folllow. She really does want to help you succeed. A wonderfully inspiring influence to be around. She has helped me tremendously. A total gem! Just amazing. This is review about Nora a trainer here but the other staff are helpful and pleasant and the facility is fantastic. There is every kind of machine and piece of equipment you can think of and I never have an issue of waiting too long for a machine. The barbell stations are awesome as well. The women's locker room has just been impeccably redone. One of my favorite sections is the massage/stretch area. Vibrating foam rollers and hydromassage bed for the win and much more. Great gym and happy they have a day pass. There is free parking in the back. It was decently busy on a Saturday morning. They have 4 Olympic weight lifting areas and a hip thrust machine. Plenty of space to stretch and recover. Good set of free weights and cardio. Some of their weight machines could use updating, everyone seemed friendly. read more

The place has the machines to get the job done, but there needs to be more regulation. I was a regular and it's just become a place where high school kids hang out and hover over machines but don't use them. This causes other people to not be able to use them as well. I even had a trainer in the start of my journey at Fitness SF and could never find parking. The trainer then responded that high school kids also use the parking lot to park there while they're in class. The trainers and employees were nice, the locker rooms were clean, but that's why it wasn't a lower rating. I was there for a year and gave it a LOT of chances. Gender discrimination at its finest. As a female, you walk in, ready to hit the weights, only to find out you've gotta cough up 50 cents just to use a locker. What is this? A laundromat? Meanwhile, my man strolls in and snags one for free on the male side. So, I'm like, "What's the deal?" I go up to the front desk and ask, and all they can offer me is a half-hearted, "I can give you 50 cents if you need it." Seriously? How about you either make all lockers free or at least put up a sign saying you've got change for every woman who walks through those doors? Recently found out I've been charged for an account here for the last 2+ years. Canceled my membership 6 years ago but apparently they restarted it for me and began charging my credit card without my knowledge. "Manager" named Abha hung up on me when I asked for refund after telling me I subscribed so they've been charging me. I have not set food in this gym in almost 6 years. Corporate office won't take my calls. I have reported them to both my bank and the BBB for investigation. This is a bold faced fraud and it's painfully obvious their staff have been scripted on how to discourage people from getting their money back. Edit: to Troys response: I have my confirmation of cancellation email. Which has been forwarded to my bank associate and the BBB as well as screen shots of other members complaining on yelp of the suffering from the same theft. I have forwarded the email to your manager, who was EXCEPTIONALLY rude. I can hear the diversionary sales tactics script in his voice. Very sad to see a business run this way. Buyer beware. Clean, well-ventilated, outdoor and indoor area, four squat racks (!), and most importantly staff and members who are into lifting. The gym may be fantastic but I'll never know. Was there today to look around and got kicked out by some middle aged manager-looking guy. The woman behind the desk was busy when I asked to walk around on a quick tour. She handed me an iPad which asked for email, name, phone and then started with photos and at that point put the tablet down and walked around the smallish but well-equipped gym. It was plenty crowded when the manager guy stopped me and in an irritated tone, showed me the iPad and said I need to continue with the data collection. I told him "no thank you" and he asked me to leave. I said "that will make this visit simpler for sure." When a business treats prospective customers this badly, I can't imagine how they are after you sign up. I miss 24 Fitness Larkspur. Please build us another gym in Marin. read more

The atmosphere here is friendly. Everything is clean, great selection of different workout equipment. The best of all is that they have weights outside in a gated area so you can get fresh air and sun while lifting. Working out in the sun is on a whole different level. They have a good amount of staff that are kind. Front desk has a great team. Personal trainers are awesome aswell. One that sticks out is Sarah for her always friendly demeanor. She will come out an assist in directing one on correctly doing a workout. read more

Got a week pass here and had a decent experience. It is not bad for a commercial gym. Reasonably clean and has several power racks. Staff was pleasant. All the bars and plates for the power racks are in kilograms, and they tell you not to use the 45 lb plates on the power racks. I was a little taken aback by a man who came up to me and told me the 15 kg bars were the "women's" bars, and 20 kg bars are the men's. Maybe that's a thing labeling it "men's" vs. "women's" but I've never heard it before in many years of competitive powerlifting. All I could think of was this meme. Also Troy from Fitness SF posted a response to this review referring to two different sizes on the Eleiko website. I checked on the other Eleiko website and there is no reference to men's versus women's, or at least an obvious one. It just refers to the bars by their weight 15 kg and 20 kg. In my opinion that's how they should be referred to, by their weight not by gender. There are men who may want to use the lighter bar and women who may want to use the heavier bar. read more

Customers treated very poorly when applying. Then emailed consistently about higher prices. Very unorganized staff. Not worth the migraine. I saw a mom and her daughter treated so terribly. 09/11/2018 RACIST STAFF I just wanted to let everyone know while I was working out at the FITNESS SF gym today & felt uncomfortable that this trainer was eyeballing me and still kept my cool about it and I didn't want to say anything but just do my workout and get on home. But while I was working out in the stretching area station I had my music on my phone (it wasn't loud nor did it bother anyone around me) it was loud enough for me to hear in my station. The one trainer that was training someone that time left his client to go tell the manager of the gym that my music was loud and it was bothering him. So that's when I confronted the trainer and the manager at the same time on how was my music loud and why didn't the trainer tell me instead of telling the manager that it bothered him that much. And so the trainer raised his voice saying that he was bothered by my music. But previous to this incident last month or so I was at the same stretching area the trainer was at and he was looking at me as the same he did today and I felt that I should go tell someone on how uncomfortable this trainer is making me feel but I didn't want to bother. It felt like how girls feel when they're being watched by a creepy man. So the time the manager walked over he didn't hear any music from my section where I was working out in order for him to hear he had to bend down to hear the music coming out of my phone. And I asked him several times was it that loud and he says "no it was not loud, that I need to get headphones". Mind you there's these types of headphones that music come out of is very loud and there's no difference if I had earphones or not and there were several people in the gym who at the time were playing loud music with their headphones and without and did anyone get called out for it NO! This is the second time this particular manager came up to me with a issue he had cause of his trainers are coming up to him. The first one was someone came to him (and mind you I just barely became a member to the gym and signed up 2 of my friends as well). We were told that one of my friend was training us and it's against the companies policy to train other people at that gym!? So us 3 we were shocked that we couldn't just workout together and be happy that us 3 have the chance to have time and make some health changes. But while confronting the manager he than apologized and said he was told but we told him that that's the purpose of us signing together is so that we can workout together and he than left us alone. And this second time I got confronted for "loud music" which obviously it wasn't loud cause if it was loud the manager didn't have to bend down to listen to the music. I will cancel my membership, it sucks but hey I'm not going to keep having problems at this same exact gym I've had it and for them to ruin my workouts and nothing is being done cause I know my words will not be counted for cause I feel like I'm a minority things that happens to us will never go in our favor. I'm done with Main County I feel the tension in this county people looking down on you and you don't even belong here type of attitude. People will hate Los Angeles but I've never felt like this ever in my life. But moving here I've felt being discriminated against and I'm done & I will not tolerate the entitlement factor Marin County has. It's like you can have this big house, lots of money but when you get treated like this those things don't matter at all. My dignity, my peace, my happiness and my life in general is all that matters. My smile and love for everyone is what my heart desires and rich or poor or the color of your skin or sex doesn't matter to me. Worst experience I've ever had in my life. Such a rude and inappropriate behavior from the general manager Ryan. Worst customer service. I would never ever in my life go to this place and won't recommend it to anyone. If you prefer to be treated like a person and a human being that's not your place. General manager didn't even try to help me, was interrupting and didn't even let me finish my sentences. And it's not ok to tell your customer "I'm giving you one last chance...". I called because my sister had a problem with her membership and when she tried to call and resolved it with Ryan he was very rude to her and she was super upset and humiliated. I thought there is a misunderstanding and I called him myself. I was shocked how he was talking to me. Like I'm not a human. He was hanging up the phone and I tried to call back. Then he told me he is giving me ONE LAST chance to explain what I want... I was shocked... Then I started to explain again what was the problem and he just interrupted me and I said "why are you interrupting me, let me finish my sentence" he hang up again. He also told me "If your going to threaten me" I was like "WHAT? What did I do? What did I tell you?" He said "I said IF YOU..." This guy obviously has some problem with attitude. My sister was forced to go there in person and cancel her membership. He wasn't even there to deal with his mess. Good luck having this guy as a general manager. read more
