I'm fairly new to Pilates, having only taken a few mat and reformer classes over the years. I started Pilates to help rehab a lower back and sciatica issue since I didn't find much relief from physical therapy. The studio itself is lovely--the front desk staff is friendly and attentive, and the waiting area is cozy, clean, quiet, and peaceful. I also really appreciate that they keep doors and windows open for fresh air, especially during cold and flu season. A friend recommended private lessons with Carlo, and I've been extremely happy with him. He's an excellent instructor who took the time to understand my medical condition and tailor sessions that avoid aggravating my injury. Instead, he focuses on strengthening my hips, back, and glutes, and improving my posture. I'm learning so much and highly recommend his instruction and the studio. read more

This organization is absolutely corrupt, unethical, and a total scam. They charged me $210 for two Pilates classes. This is absolutely an outrage. They hide behind an email address and have the poorest customer service I've ever seen. Upon Calling to use the items that I paid for, I was told they were not available to discuss the issue. They hide behind an email address. What a sad state of affairs! dishonest, corrupt, slimy and unethical... I was told the owner is awful to her teachers this the reason for turnover... Hello, my name is Uli and I'm a Spondy! Jokes aside, my doctor recently told me that my leg and back problems result from a condition called Spondylolisthesis - a slipped vertebrae. He mentioned that strengthening my core would be my best bet to control for further damage and he also said that Pilates had shown some promising results in recent studies. Well, I'm not someone who distrusts the opinion of an expert and so I set out to find the best Pilates instructor in my area. I used the messaging feature here on Yelp to connect with 4 or 5 different Pilates studios in Marin: FitWise in Mill Valley was one of the studios and I swear that within a few hours of me sending the message, Ronda - the owner of the studio - gave me a call. I was immediately impressed by Ronda's knowledge about my condition and that comforted me immensely. Since then, I've seen Ronda for regular 1:1 Pilates sessions and I also attend group classes about twice a week. (One of my favorite classes is the matt pilates class as that one gives me a lot of inspiration for home exercises, which I have since integrated into my life as well.) Technical excellency aside, I would also like to give a shoutout to all the instructors and staff: they're all super nice and even though I may have had only a very small interaction with them, they all know me by name. Honestly, that makes such a difference and it makes me look forward to going to class. PS: I would like to encourage the men of Mill Valley to also join this studio. I've been going to FtiWise for over 2 years and happy to have discovered this place. I take private lessons and classes. I enjoyed Pilates years ago but fell out of practice when I began to have knee issues. FitWise instructors have helped me get back into the practice as well as show me how a Pilates practice can improve my knee function and strength (without re-injuring myself!) The Foundations class is a great way to start or relearn the practice - it's not easy, but is doable, and a lot of fun. The classes are small, allowing for lots of attention. I highly recommend Fitwise Pilates! I started coming two years ago to strengthen my core because my neck and shoulders were bothering me. I did three private sessions with Stephanie (she is excellent!) because I had never used a reformer machine and had no clue what I was doing. She is an awesome instructor who knows so much about anatomy. In fact, all of the instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and are able to micro-adjust you from across the room. I have nothing but rave reviews about this pilates studio. Where do I start. First of all in this difficult Covid world we are living in, Fitwise meets all the criteria for a safe environment. Their reformer classes and private sessions are all held on their very generous outdoor balconies. There are numerous sanitizing stations to keep your hands clean. When indoors, they have many windows and doors open to keep the air flowing as well as air sanitizer apparatus in many locations. I have been doing pilates regularly for over 5 years now. It started when I was diagnosed with sever spinal stenosis. My 5 hour surgery was postponed 5 years ago due to a sanitization issue in the surgery room. I proceeded to lose 12 pounds and commenced a regular pilates regimen. I have had to level 10 pain since then and escaped spinal surgery!! Most of my private sessions are with the owner, master instructor and extremely knowledgeable Ronda Priestner. She really has an extensive knowledge of the human anatomy and adjusts her programs to most benefit her clients. She is patient but doesn't sacrifice a vigorous routine in her individual programs. And on top of that, she is a hoot to work with. What more could a person want. Big applause for Fitwise!!! read more

The atmosphere is friendly, low key, supportive and ideal for anyone, including beginners and/or folks who might be a little bit overweight, out of shape or would not feel comfortable in a typical gym or fitness studio setting. At the same time, their incredibly qualified instructors can provide challenges for the most experienced and fit clients. If you check out their website you will find that the instructors' experience and training is far superior to other far less qualified providers. Their qualifications are essential for achieving results and avoiding injury. My own results have been outstanding. I no longer have a nagging and painful shoulder condition and I am moving better. I'm obsessed with this place. I've gotten private instruction with Jess and bodywork with Fran and they have both been wonderful. They are very knowledgeable about the body, listen to where I need work and really know how to support their clients. I've been rehabbing my knee injury and she knows exactly what to do to make the rehab go faster. I do pilates at Fitwise to strengthen my core to avoid straining my back and joints for tennis. It is amazing how much it has helped. The amount of work required for pilates is so low compared to the benefit of not getting injured every time I have a tennis match! The instructors are great. I like mixing it up with different instructors and getting a different type of pilates experience in each class. I've been working with the FitWise team for a couple of months now, seeing Alison & Olivia in a personal training capacity twice a week. I came into pilates with some issues. I have a herniated disc in my neck and a prosthetic cervical disc as well. I've also had several major abdominal surgeries over the past few years, my body is holding a lot of scar tissue and has felt really weak and heavy/overweight and unfamiliar. Alison & Olivia have done an amazing job helping me gently refamiliarize myself with my own body while pushing a little further each week. One of the things that I value the MOST about their training is that I go home feeling sore in the right places and not with a sore & spasming neck. My neck is very sensitive and I haven't awoke once to a screaming neck in all these weeks. I feel like that is a major testament to their talent and the care they take with they way I progress into this practice. This is a long review, but I feel the need to tell everyone precisely why I love this studio, and especially it's owner, Ronda. Quick take away would be that I have been going to FitWise for about a year now and I cannot recommend this studio highly enough. The long story... I have steel rods in my back from scoliosis surgery I had as a teen. This has led to increasing chronic pain over the past 2 decades. I have tried yoga as well as strength training in the past but never with any success given my body's limitations. After a spine surgeon recommended I try pilates, I looked at Yelp reviews and reached out to FitWise. Ronda was extremely responsive. Not only did she spend a lot of time assessing my abilities at my initial appointment, she talked about minor adjustments I could make in my every day life to decrease pain and retrain my body. She also recommended a local myofascial specialist who could help with the trigger points I have developed over the years. The referral she gave me has been life changing in conjunction with pilates. Because of my limitations, I do 1:1 private pilates sessions at least once a week, often 2. I have worked with a number of instructors at the studio. While each has a different background and specialty, what they all have in common is a sixth sense about what's happening with my body and how to help me stretch and strengthen without flaring up. No other exercise program has been able to do this. Additionally, Ronda is incredibly invested in her clients. I have received emails from her following up to see whether I liked a new piece of equipment and how my body felt after, or to make suggestions about which instructor would be a great fit given a particular aspect of their training. She has even reached out to see if I was okay when I had put myself on the back burner and not made it into the studio for a couple of weeks. She is thoughtful and kind and her studio is relaxed and welcoming. If you give FitWise a try, I'm confident you won't be disappointed. read more

I discovered Fitwise after losing a year of my Pilates practice due to Covid. They offered outdoor classes on a shaded deck - finally something that felt safe to get back at it. I've been a twice weekly devotee for a year now, have gotten back my pre-Covid fitness and then some, and haven't looked back. An amazing array of instructors with different styles to suit everyone. With my schedule and style preference, I've found that I am partial to Jean and Lori but there is no one I haven't thought taught a great and challenging class. The classes are always interesting as the instructors shake things up on the regular - trying new things and keeping it spicy. The Mind Body app makes it super simple to schedule classes and plan my practice with a totally reasonable cancellation policy for when something arises. But they don't just throw out a general schedule and leave it. They respond dynamically to demand and add extra classes when waitlists start to form and their front office staff is super professional and responsive. I also love the community of supportive women that make up the clientele. This is a woman-owned business that has managed to keep going through the pandemic with a unique ability and willingness to pivot however needed to stay available to clients. Pilates can sometimes creep towards the cross fit model of pushing your body with extreme stretches or jarring movement. But not at FitWise. I've taken a class with Mari who is a smart and experienced instructor and is more concerned with form and slowly building flexibility and strength. The classes are methodical and always building towards a challenge (trust me, you'll sweat), but not aggressively. The instructors are thoughtful and observant, always asking before class if you have any limitations and how you are feeling. They'll make suggestions on modifications and watch you closely so you leave refreshed and happy. And the new space in Mill Valley is perfect. The light floors and sky lights give you a sense of lightness and calmness. It's right downtown but in a quiet space that makes your session peaceful and productive. After horribly screwing up my back at age 39, resulting in 2 discs being removed and a reconstruction to reconnect my back muscles (long ugly story), I have spent the last 11 years, building core strength and consciously working to improve my balance and symmetry.
