I learned the importance of what "standing seam" means - basically it means there are no exposed fasteners. With the exposed fastener type, which is the cheaper type you have a strong potential down the road for water incursion. Ron does a true standing seam metal roof where there are NO exposed fasteners. He knows all about installing metal roofs. His crew were very courteous, professional and diligent hard workers. Ron was on the job and hands on the whole time. He has a very expensive machine with the rolls of metal so he can cut the correct sizes right on the property. The fact is that my house here in Maine is just a mobile home. After this experience with Ron and his crew I would recommend him to anyone. Our comp-shingle roof was about 15 years old and looking long in the tooth, so when we refinanced…read moreour house in Augusta a few years ago we also budgeted for a new roof, which DH Pinnette recently installed. We went for a standing-seam metal roof (24-gauge steel) because, while it's more expensive, it will last a lifetime--ours, anyway--with minimal maintenance; and snow accumulation will be minimized. We obtained competitive quotes, so we knew Pinnette's was in the ballpark for a professionally done project on a complicated roof like ours. Also, though we didn't verify any independently, the other jobs they've done as shown in the gallery on their website showed a high level of skill and experience. We executed the contract a year ahead ($200 earnest deposit) because that is how busy Pinnette are. (Old saying: When you want a job done right, give it to a busy person.) The entire project took 6-7 weeks, as expected; weather is always an unknown factor, and these guys know better than to try working in dangerous conditions. The crew were unfailingly industrious, polite, and considerate to my wife and me throughout the project; and they did a good job cleaning up the site during and after their work. Because a metal roof can be installed atop an existing comp roof, there was no tear-off, with all the cost and mess (and landfill) that would have entailed. Aspects of the contracting process worth noting: (1) Another roofing company, after surveying to make an estimate, backed out because they weren't confident predicting material and labor conditions a year out. Pinnette made their estimate a year out, simply providing that if their costs went up by 10% or more the contract price was subject to adjustment. But the estimator said that labor and material costs in the roofing business had been pretty stable, so there wouldn't necessarily be any change. Indeed, the invoice price has not exceeded the contract price. But be aware that, like anything involving investments, past performance is no guaranty of future results. (2) If you have chimneys that need "repointing," have a mason do that prior to installing a metal roof because masons loath going up on a metal roof. We were glad to have had that tip and we got our chimneys seen to in advance. Obviously, your mileage may vary--I see some less-than-stellar reviews here. Our experience has been first class and I recommend Pinnette without hesitation.

I called and explained the situation and they said that they were busy but would get over to repair the problem within the next two weeks. Short story is.... 3 months later, many phone calls, missed appointments and significant damage to an interior wall, they finally shoed up and fixed the issue. The service tech made the comment that due to all the damage I should have called sooner. I told him that 3 months had passed since the first phone call. He didn't have a response. I will never recommend or use the services of DH Pinnette again. I suggest that you find a more reputable and responsive company if you need roof repairs or replacement.

They said that could put metal roof over my existing shingles which would save money and they had a 6-8 delay at most before they could start with the understanding they would be working on the garage roof after that. They wanted a 36% deposit up front, $3200 against an estimated total of $8900. On July 25th, I signed the contract and sent them the $3200 deposit. On October 12th, 11 and half weeks after I signed the contract, I demanded my deposit back. They then informed me that there was no start date on the contract and that there was nothing legally I could do to them. I feel like they were disingenuous with their contract and their delays and I have yet to receive my deposit back.
