Garbage service. Half-hearted installation. There are shingles raised on ridge cap that were not sealed down properly and no shingles and caulking around my vents. Five star's response? To fight with me and tell me that is "normal". Said their inspector looked at it, my Ring camera says different. Idiot just stayed in his truck for 15 minutes and didn't go anywhere near my roof. I am just going to have to fix their mistakes myself because they are too lazy and incompetent to do it themselves. (And yes I have done some roofing in my life so I know what is crap) This company is full of shysters and does the absolute bare minimum to get their money. STAY AWAY!!!! read more

No follow up communication. Removed a piece of siding for a sample and never returned or followed up. I understand you may be busy due to the recent storm in the area, but at least communicate a waiting time. Ultimately we ended up with no returned phone calls in 4 months and a piece of siding still missing from our house.I spoke with several other contractors and tradesman in the area and this seems to be Five stars routine. After contacting another company recently they were able to get us color samples immediately, explain cost (in detail) and waiting time. They were also able to work with our insurance agent directly and followed up every step of the way. New materials were ordered within a week of contacting and a timeline was set. read more

They did our roof and they made a dozen mistakes - some minor, some major. I documented each mistake and they did the absolute minimum to fix what they screwed up. They claim to be the #1 rated roofer around, but they F'd us over. Very bad experience !!! read more

Five Star Home Improvement installed the siding on my parent's home incorrectly. My parents are elderly and live by themselves at their home in the Quad Cities. My father is a Korean War veteran suffering from dementia. Five Star has come out a few times to take pictures and "bandaid" their work without addressing the real problem. Many of the siding strips were cut too short and installed unevenly. They promised to come out and remove and reinstall siding but never showed. Now they will not answer or return our calls. read more

DO NOT use this company. We had a roof replaced 2 months ago and they were supposed to replace our gutters as well as per our contract. They have not returned nor will they answer phone calls or texts to both the contractor nor the home office. The only positive thing here is that we did not pay them the full amount, only half. Beware if you do decide to use them. DO NO pay until the work is completed. read more

With next Monday being the 21st day since I have been trying to reach them for my warranty information in order to transfer during the sale of my home I am giving them 1 star. My roof was installed and priced fairly. Communication has been poor and now not being able to reach anyone contacting all 3 of their offices, sending emails & using the chat feature on their website I have now contacted Owens Corning and the Iowa State Attorney General. On a comical note, I did receive 1 call back when I put in a request for a bid on a new roof. When I explained that I was actually just wanting my warranty information I was told by Meagan that I would receive a call back. That was 5 days ago. A 50 year warranty is pretty worthless if you can't get in touch with them. read more

I cannot speak for their actual workmanship, but I can speak for their customer service. They are unresponsive to calls and do not call back, even after leaving messages. It does not inspire trust in your customer if you cannot be bothered to answer the phone or call back. Also, I was told that I would receive a phone call to "check in" to see if somebody else within the company called me back. As you can guess, that didn't happen either. read more

Had them put a new roof on my house. The warranty is what sold me. I hope that wasn't a lie as well. After I agreed to hiring them, everything has gone down hill. It took them about 4 wks for them to show up. At one point I was told that my house was already done, It was not even started. The day they actually did my house I came home to my satellite dish hanging from the cord off the side of the house. Contract stated they where to remove and replace. This was a Thursday. They now inform me that its my responsibility to have the satellite company attach the dish to my roof. Since they can't align it properly. So I had to make arrangements to get this done before the weekend. My over the air antenna was also hanging by its cord, about 4 ft from the ground. As i walked around my house, I noticed they had crushed my gutters in 4 places. The clips that hold my gutters in place where missing, about 70% gone. I noticed there was nails and some gutter clips stuck between the gutters and the fascia. 5 days later, I was looking at the roof and realized they didn't shingle all of the ridge vent. The last 5 ft was exposed. Had to call them again for this and ask what we where going to do about my ruined gutters. 4 weeks later a contractor comes out and starts replacing certain sections of my gutter. so now i have 15 yr old gutters next to brand new ones across the front of my house. Really?? So I had to ask if we could replaced everything that is street side. Justin Medina was incredibly rude about having to replace my gutters. If they had use ladder extensions in the first place. I still see debris on my roof. My drip edge could not be more crooked. These people are salesman, not roofers. They sub contract all the work. We chose Five Star Home Improvement because the salesman was on time and very polite. They also had a lot of different window brands and financing options to chose from. They were ordered and installed quickly. We're very pleased with our purchase and would recommend this company. We may have them do our siding next summer. read more

Completely disappointed in this company. I was looking to get roof, siding and gutters done. The guy working with me moved quickly on the roof and seemed genuinely interested to help us. Well, more like they were just interested in the insurance money for the roof and left us high and dry for the rest of the work. Roof was done in May, had to keep trying to contact him to talk about siding. Communication was horrible. FInally gave up trying to work them in July when another company approached me. I'm going with this new company, who has explained everything better, came and looked at the siding the first day, and is great at communicating. They are going to help me work with my insurance company to make sure that 5 Star didn't get paid too much for the little work they did. They also left a pallet in our yard and lots of nails, several in the street. I'm so frustrated with 5 Star, and wish I could go back in time and not have chosen to work with them. Wish I could give them 0 stars. DO NOT CHOOSE THEM, there are much better companies out there that care more about you and your whole house, not just getting all your insurance money for just the roof, and then ignoring you!!! read more

After several estimates we chose this company to do our roof this summer because the salesman, Chris Mendenhall hit home about how much your company cares about quality and service. That could not have been further from the truth. We had done a lot of yardwork this summer and told Chris we didn't want the dumpster or vehicles on the yard. He told us that wouldn't be a problem yet they did drive the dumpster on the yard in several areas. It rained steady that day so when they left we had deep severe ruts in the yard! I was extremely upset and told Chris he needed to come over that night. Instead I received a call from him and the production manager, Justin Medina that they would fix it. The next week sod was placed over the ruts and we were told by the landscaper that we will need to water the sod twice a day for six weeks! Our water outlet is on the other side of the house which is making it very difficult. Now we're inconvenience with the hassle of watering and hope the sod grows along with the increase cost of the water bill. Again, that's 84 times we will need to water. Of course, we're hoping for rain everyday. My husband and I are more upset than words can say. When we were told the company would fix it. We didn't think it meant that it falls on us. Neither the salesman or production manager have called back to make sure we are satisfied. Gee I wonder why? read more
