DO NOT HIRE FIVE STAR PAINTING!!! - Zero Stars I have never written a negative review on any company or product but I am compelled to write this because I do not want anyone to go through what we have been through with this company. Furthermore, we have gotten feedback from at least three other people that have gone through very similar experiences with them, so I know it wasn't just a "bad luck" experience we had. We asked Five Star Painting to provide us a quote to remove the popcorn ceilings and repaint the entire interior of the house, including crown moulding, trim, cabinets and shutters. The owner, Alexander Castillo, came to the house to look at the project. When he left, both my husband and I had such a great feeling about him. He was enthusiastic, friendly and made us feel so confident in him and told us the schedule was absolutely no problem. On top of that, he gave us a very reasonable bid. We hired him and his company, excited to get the project going. He asked for 50% of the money up front to get supplies. We obliged, thinking this was very reasonable. Our good feelings didn't last long. After working two partial days, nobody showed up. Alexander told my husband that he had to go to the hospital with chest pain, even sending my husband a picture of himself in a hospital bed. Of course, we were concerned for his health and weren't worried about the missed day. The next day, no work was done again. When Alexander was there the day after, I asked him how he was feeling and the "chest pain" was now "a super sore throat". I didn't think anything of it then but now I know it was most likely one of his lies. He and his guys rarely showed up to work and Alex always had an excuse. When I called to ask one day, around 11am, if they were going to be working that day he told me I was making the guys feel uncomfortable and started berating me. I had been nothing but nice. Several times, my husband and I got messages from Alex that were meant for other clients. They were messages with the exact same excuses he'd give us for not working, including another hospital visit with a picture. Funny thing was that he didn't tell us he was in the hospital... It was just another trick up his sleeve. He is such a good talker, gets half of the money upfront, doesn't show up, then shows up just enough to look like they're doing something to regain your confidence so you'll pay them some more. It's all a scam. Now, for the work they actually did.... Terrible. When they started scraping the popcorn texture off the ceilings, they didn't cover anything up aside from the floors. We had popcorn scrapings all over closet shelves and bars, fans, blinds, shutters, window sills, etc. Further, they left all of the scrapings on the plastic on the floors, which was trampled around the entire house. The amount of dust in the house from this was terrible. They never removed the plastic with the scrapings. My husband and I finally did it when we couldn't handle it anymore. We had a few contractor friends come through and both commented that they have never seen such a mess. They said it was unbelievably unprofessional. They made as big of a mess when they "retextured" the ceilings. They sprayed texture over all our light fixtures, ceiling fans, shutters, walls, door frames, outlets, switches, etc. We spent well over 45 hours cleaning off the popcorn scrapings and texture splatter on all parts of our house. Furthermore, the texturing they did was awful. We are actually having to get most of our rooms redone because they are so bad - very rough (my hair gets stuck on it), smoothed out lines in some spots, a lot of texture in some areas, none in others. It's terrible. We have actually had people compare their "texturing" to vandalism of our home. They painted some of the walls before we finally got fed up with them not showing up. They removed some outlet covers, not others, painted over others, completely missed paint around others. They painted over globs of texture that were splattered on the walls from when they textured the ceiling. There are so many areas that were completely missed. They got paint on a lot of the window frames. It's all just a huge mess and we have to essentially redo everything they did. After four weeks of them rarely showing up we finally couldn't take it anymore. I sent Alex a message, asking for our house key back (he had one since we weren't living at the house yet). I asked him if he could bring it by or I could meet him somewhere to get it back. He replied, "I throw that key in the trash!" I do have one positive. There seemed to be a couple guys with integrity on his crew. One of the guys asked me if I'd like the paint that they already had for our house (which we paid for), after we fired them. Alex said no way. Bottom Line: You will regret hiring Alex Castillo and Five Star Painting and Remodeling. Don't do it! read more

GREAT JOB!!!!! I hired Five Star Painting 2 times for my home painting!! I wasn't sure who to trust with our kitchen cabinets. I went from dark cherry wood to white so i was super nervous, but they did a fantastic job! now my kitchen is bright and beautiful, I loved their work so much I had to call them back to paint my walls. Alex repainted my whole house at a very reasonable price and did a great job. Had holes in the wall and he did the patch work you can't even tell they were there. Work was completed in a timely manner and had great communication. read more
