If you find yourself with 24 hours in Flam (population: 387) - and you will if you're on the Norway in a Nutshell tour package like Jamie W. and me - then you may find it challenging to fill your time. There were no casinos, no designer outlets, no long-term residencies starring Celine Dion or worse, Katy Perry. But there was this RIB boat adventure excursion. If you don't know what RIB means, it stands for Rigid Inflatable Boat. Yep, it's a zodiac boat with a motor that adds a jolt of speed to your trip. I decided to book us in advance for the standard fjord safari which lasted approximately ninety minutes. It cost 790 NOK or about $80 in US dollars. Pretty typical Norwegian tourist pricing. You're given a pair of goggles and heavy-duty fluorescent chartreuse coveralls as if you're scaling Everest during a typhoon. It was a bit of overkill but a fine Instagram moment (photo: https://bit.ly/3JAo0VU). There were just seven of us including a young child who already seemed bored despite constant prodding from her insistent father. Our guide and boat pilot was Gustav, an ebullient local who brought the necessary enthusiasm to his role. With dexterity, he took us to key spots in both Aurlandsfjord and Sognefjord including a stop where the tip of our boat entered a rushing waterfall (photo: https://bit.ly/3QosZv3). Gustav also shared colorful stories about life around the fjords. There are longer versions of the excursion, some including a goat cheese tasting since it's a local delicacy. We had a great time boating through the Naeroyfjord to Undredal and back. The view was fantastic! Waterfalls galore. We counted at least 16 of them. One was the highest in the world or maybe just Norway. The boating experience was exhilarating (and not at all nauseating for those who may suffer from motion sickness as I do often). The guide, Ervin, was very informative, friendly and helpful. It's great to get a tour from a local. There were 10 total guests on our boat and made for a very intimate tour which I really enjoyed. I appreciated him making stops along the way way to show us marine life and close up of waterfalls and telling us personal stories of fjord residents including juicy gossip! I'm so glad our tour company booked this tour! read more

This was the highlight of our time spent in Norway for my wife. The zodiac ride through the fjords was amazing. Before boarding the zodiac, we were suited with one-piece flotation devices that kept us warm throughout the tour. Our guide, Joel, gave us an excellent overview of Undredal and other various areas in the fjord. Having the mobility and speed of the zodiac allowed us to get really close to what we wanted to see. After our fjord ride, we were dropped off and picked up with our second guide, Jesper. Jesper was a terrific guide and gave us great stories of this area. His sense of humor (dealing with my brother) was exceptional. For the next 80 minutes we scaled uphill to the goat farm. If you are in poor physical condition, stay on the boat. Otherwise, it's worth the effort to get to the top. Once we got to the goat farm, we were greeted by a horse and dozens of goats. Our hostess, Ana, was utterly wonderful. She gave us a tour of the farm and we were allowed to milk a goat (that made my wife's vacation). She showed us how she makes the cheese and we were feed a lunch that was divine. We also had apple juice that Ana made from her apple trees on her property. I wish I could express how Ana take pride in the tradition of cheese making and wants to keep this tradition moving forward by teaching younger people this artful skill. If you are in port with a cruise, like we were, I would tell you to do this tour. It's 300 meters from the ship and you will love every moment of this combination tour. read more

We visited Flam during one of the hottest summers on record in Norway, so this was a great way to cool down. We put on suits to keep warm as the Fjord is very cold, but the suits quickly came off, as the temperature was about 30C. The tour is on a speedboat, so we got lots of wind, which felt FANTASTIC. Our guide was very knowledgeable, and clearly enjoyed doing this. The only disappointing part was where we stopped to try some cheese. We got the history of Huldra's in Norway, which was... tedious. We also tasted some cheese and sausages from the goat farm there, which was nice, but I had expected to maybe see the goats, learn how the cheese was made, etc. All in all, a fantastic time. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and recommend anyone to do it. read more

Fjord Safari was one of the highlights of our winter vacation to Norway. The staff was very welcoming and helpful, and the scenery was spectacular. Our guide, Jonathan, was extremely knowledgeable about the fjords, the wildlife, and the people who live there. An easy 5 stars - the highlight of my day and trip to Norway. After taking two trains from Bergen across the Flåm railway, and ended in Flåm to start the fjord safari. Knut, our guide, was both hilarious and informative throughout the tour. The safari boat goes up to 80km and glides super smoothly along the water and within feet of some of the most beautiful waterfalls I've seen. I honestly can't describe the surreal beauty surrounding you on this tour - plus the natural wildlife you encounter along the way. There is no better way to see the fjords! They equipped us with heavy duty suits, gloves, goggles and hats so we were never cold or wet. I found myself sitting in awe for most of the trip, I couldn't believe I was really there seeing the sights I was seeing. I can't recommend this tour enough to visitors, I only wish everybody could experience the mind-boggling beauty of these fjords. read more

Literally, one of the most spectacular and unique things that can be done and seen on planet earth! My wife and I took the big ferry to flam, and saw the beautiful fjords. But going again in a much smaller boat and tour with Fjord Safari was vastly superior and utterly extraordinary! Our tour guide, a local native (Anna?), did a fantastic job of taking us to the best and most beautiful sites, and also giving us a lot of fascinating information about Sweden, Flam and, most of all, the unbelievable fjords. Nice way to see the fjords but very expensive (€200-230 for a family) A hike along the fjord does the job as well unless you like the thrill of a fast RIB. The website does not work well and you cannot book there. If there is a cruise ship in the harbour its almost impossible to get a seat. read more

My husband and I took the heritage and taste fjord safari with Thomas. I cannot recommend it enough! Thomas was a great guide, and great boat driver. The views are UNREAL. And the service of the company itself is stellar. The goat cheese tasting was a great addition to the boat ride. I only wished we had been able to see the goats! This was absolutely the best activity we did in Flåm! read more
