Park was empty, well-kept with a nice shaded pavilion with picnic tables and trash cans. We didn't play on the wooden jungle gym, but enjoyed the locale nonetheless. Note: if the wind blows from the north, it smells like dairy. Not overwhelming, but might ruin your lunch if you are sensitive. I feel like the last 2.5 hours driving through Kansas smelled like dairy, so not something I would discourage others from checking this place out if they just want a spot to relax. Same smell (worse) when we were getting the food from the restaurant.

Use sunscreen, wear a hat and bring water. The trails are well marked as are the areas that they are protecting from humans. My husband and I had a great time seeing all the formations. We started from the southernmost parking lot. Either lot works as a start point. The southern lot does not have bathroom or port-a-pot. We saw antelope on the drive there. Deer while on the trail as well as many types of birds. The wildflowers were blooming here and there and some cactus had flowers. Once we got back to our vehicle, we drove around to the overlook parking lot and did that vantage point as well. Highly recommend doing this as you get such a different perspective from being down amongst the formations and then seeing more of a composite from above. It is a worthy visit and hike. Be prepared for it to get hot, quick. Hence wanting an earlier start next time. Would do again!

The trails themselves were nice, other than the frequent horse poop that had to be dodged. Also, a little odd that the surface changed frequently, from gravel to dirt, to a reddish sand. And of course, a few areas of mud and ice but not too bad. Points for a few trash cans, along with picnic tables and benches. Not the best hike in the world, but it was fine and relatively easy. And not a ton of views, other than a couple of glimpses of Pikes Peak and a bit of the front range.

Goodland is a great place to stop and refuel when heading west and is one of the last major stopping points until you reach Limon, Colorado. To find the painting, go one block north of the interchange and turn right on the first main drag. The painting is about 1/2 mile down the street. Great place to stop, stretch and refuel. Doesn't require a long visit -- just long enough to get pictures to prove you were here.
