This is a review of the Third Annual Flagstaff Wine and Food Festival. It was held on June 9, 2012…read morefrom 1pm to 5pm at the Pepsi Amphitheater at Fort Tuthill Park. It is a beautiful park, surrounded by trees and a very relaxed atmosphere. It is also very intimate and low key, making it easy to get some wine and food from the vendors. The ticket price is $30 which is fair since it is all you can eat and you get 4 wine sampling tickets (although some places don't take your tickets). There were about ten food vendors and the best had to be Cottage Place which served up beef with potatoes au gratin. We were lucky to win tickets through Friends of Coconino County Parks, but I would gladly pay the $30 next year to go again.

Other people sat on the lawn with blankets or short lawn chairs. The music festival was fun and offered lots of good music. I bought a CD called Greener Pastures-Never Come Down. I have played it many times and hope to buy another. I would love it if more bands brought CDs to sell. I am not a Spotify person, buying Internet music. I really liked the Mountain Time Ramblers (who are from Flagstaff and play first Friday at Mountain Top Brewing) and would have bought a CD but they didn't have any for sale. In summer 2025 we hope to attend more days than one. We will attend the daytime events. Camping is available for a limited lucky few. The event sells food and beverages. They have flush toilets

2024 Pickin in the Pines at Flagstaff, AZ : So disappointed…read morethis year. Turned into a military zone. Harassing, threatening "security" with no identification. Demanded that paid ticket holders avoid the area behind the fence for "200 yards". Police preyed on elderly ticket holders sitting & enjoying the music & threatened with a " citation for trespassing". Last 5 years sitting by the fence was no problem. Put up a tall black wood panel added to the existing fence. Added lots of extra fencing to inconvenience & confuse ticket holders. Many people will not be returning next year. Pepsi Amphitheatre " management" does not care about attendees. Only collecting their money & profits. The spirit of the festival has been ruined. And they disrespected the musicians...

It's $65 for general admission, you get a ton of tickets for 3 ounce pours and they give you a beer glass that you drink from. The favorite beer was a Strawberry Lambic from Delirium. Local breweries, and international breweries. You buy your tickets online ahead of time. Parking on-site at a county park. Pretty, surrounded by forest. Very nice experience. We loved the games as well, there was darts, football, and skeeball. There was a live DJ too. Food options such as Mexican food, and barbecue.

Despite some minor details that I will point out here, this beer festival was basically like the heaven I always dreamed about. For $40 (in advance) you get a mini mug and 24 drink tickets that can be used to get any beer at any of the stands. The city of Flagstaff offered up its bus line to drive participants to and from the county fair grounds where the festival was being held, FOR FREE. The line to get into the fest was ridiculously long but it went by very quickly. The lines to get beer were long but they also went by very quickly. We created a system, we would stand in line and get a beer and then drink that beer while waiting in the next line. What ended up happening was that we would have to slam our mini mugs because the lines went so fast and we were getting faded too quickly. I'm not talking about some pansy ass 5.0% beers, nah, if these beers had nut sacks, they'd drag on the ground, 11% muthafuckas. I tried to get a list of all of the breweries that showed up but I got drunk and forgot. Now for the downers, the festival is held at a country fairground that hasn't been paved in 50 years, the ground was in bad shape. Huge potholes were making people drop like flies and this was 10 minutes into the festival - by the fourth hour after plenty of beers, we didn't have a fighting chance. Secondly, I saw several people throwing their beers into the trash. I feel like these people should be escorted off the premises immediately and banned from ever coming back to future festivals. I know these issues aren't the festivals fault and they have to give a ticket to any asshole with $40 but it still made me mad to see them wasting beer. TIPS: Buy your tickets in advance, they are $50 at the door and they sold out quckly. If you're coming from out of town, find a hotel within walking distance of the bus stop. Wear a pretzel necklace.

**July 2026: Tuesday Afternoon**…read more Growing up, Pluto was still considered a planet, so when I found out the observatory where it was discovered is in Flagstaff, I knew I had to include Lowell Observatory on my itinerary. During the summer, tickets were $43 for adults, $38 for seniors (55+), and $28 for children (6-17), with hours from 1 PM to 11 PM (which makes sense with the later sunsets). My friend and I arrived around 2 PM and were able to jump right into a mix of lectures and guided tours. One of the highlights was being led to the very telescope where Clyde Tombaugh discovered Pluto. It was such a surreal, full-circle moment. Our guide also shared the history of Percival Lowell and walked us through the grounds, which added a lot of depth and context to the visit. I also appreciated how interactive the experience was. There are telescopes available for guests to use during both the day and night, and your admission includes a clip-on badge that allows you to leave and return later in the evening. We had planned to come back after dinner to try and catch a view of a planet, but unfortunately it was a cloudly forecast so we were out of luck. Even without perfect viewing conditions, the experience was still incredibly worthwhile. It's such a great place to learn, enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate the curiosity and dedication of scientists and researchers. We ended up attending several talks and tours and learned a lot throughout the afternoon. We stayed from about 2 PM to 6 PM and even grabbed a grilled cheese sandwich at the café, which hit the spot. Overall, Lowell Observatory is a unique and educational stop that I'd definitely recommend adding to your Flagstaff itinerary--especially if you have any interest in space or astronomy.

I have to admit that I was extremely disappointed in our experience at Lowell Observatory. Do not…read morego during overcast or rainy weather! We pre-paid for our tickets (which are non-refundable), and had no choice but to go on the only day we were in Flagstaff... when it rained. The big clue should have been us driving into an absolutely empty parking lot. Most of the cool experiences in Lowell are weather-dependent. We couldn't look through the large telescopes because of the overcast. The observatory show (and many of the outdoor shows) were canceled. All the things that make the high admission price tag worth it just weren't possible. With that said, there aren't many indoor, inclement-weather-friendly activities at the observatory, which made for a fairly boring experience. We walked around for an hour, and then just left. The Lowell Observatory needs to expand in my opinion or offer discounted rates for days when most of its experiences are closed. Positive notes... the drive up to the observatory is very pretty. They have an awesome gift shop. And you can see the telescope that discovered Pluto.

This has traditionally been one of our favorite summer festivals. Unfortunately, this year it was…read moremoved from Foxglenn Park to Fort Tuthill. It was HOT, dirt filled and not the same vibe as in years past. We still enjoyed the march of the Clans, the band's that played and the occasional performance. The beer is some of our favorite, but even this year it kind of missed the mark. Lines were slow and crammed in the back of performance areas and the beer wasn't as cold as it should have been. Plus, it seems every year it gets more and more pricey. $20 per adult for entry, $5 per kid 2 and older! Plus food isn't anything spectacular and adult beverages are $7! There was a little vendor tent from the local Mason Lodge that had water and little ice creams for $1 and we stopped there three times! I really hope they find a way to move it back or at least find another grassy venue.

That atmosphere was very warm and inviting. The staff were extremely helpful and kind. The whole experience was really a great memory and we got really great pictures from our trip. The best part is that the tickets were $7 each which is a really great value! They have a nice selection of pumpkins and plenty of activities.
