I love me a bit of hippy food and their tofu fritters are delicious... and the coffee is great and fair trade, natch.

I like that though. It's a neat kind of chaos. Some of the more unique items they sell are sprouted bread, coconut yoghurt, kefir sachets, fermented vegetables like sauerkraut, unpasturised 'beauty' milk, and fresh nut paste (you make it there). They also have a huge selection of seeds, nuts, dried berries (goji and blueberries amongst others), teas, natural herbs, flours and tinctures, the lesser-known grains like red quinoa and buckwheat. Celiacs with love this place - they have gluten free pastas, gluten free cake mixes, gluten free cereals - you name it they probably have it. A good selection of organic ice cream and frozen vegan 'meats' are also available as well as a selection of skin care ranges like Weleda and a good range of natural soap. They have a small range of organic fresh fruit and vegetables outside. I'm not particularly fond of my produce lying beside a car park even if it is organic but when organic bananas are going for $1 each I'm inclined to buy. The ladies are really helpful and there is a naturapath and herbalist available for free advice also.

It's a small store, but is absolutely packed with health foods and health supplements - some of which actually look well worth eating despite their purported benefits! It's the source of all my homemade muesli ingredients, though I rarely leave without being temped to add something new to my basket - the last was a tic-tac like pocket-pack of pure organic liquorice. Now that was a taste experience! And of course all the staff look suitably organic.

We decided to go for the Keto Breakfast Plate as we were quite interested to try the keto bread. This dish was (gf,df) and consisted of an in-house made macadamia keto bread (gf). avocado, kaleonaise sauce, organic mixed salad leaves, smoked salmon, cashew cheese and organic poached eggs. The bread and the cashew cheese was super tasty! The sunshine bowl was very refreshing and was served in a cute coconut bowl which made us feel like we had escaped to somewhere tropical for a bit. Staff were very friendly and looked like they enjoy working there which could be because it is operated like a family orientated business. Overall a good vibe and lots of wholesome goodness to enjoy. Although it is located in a business area, the atmosphere is so relaxed you don't even realise that it is. Another thing to note is that if you're into all things healthy and organic, you most likely won't leave this place without a thing or two. We ended up getting some Kombucha and a few protein snacks for the road.

Conscious Chocolate's Raw Cacao with 60% cacao, naturally sweetened with agave nectar, is raw, organic, handmade and vegan, with low GI, no soy, no added sugar and gluten free. So basically, it's chocolate that is not only delicious, but that is good for you - or so I'm able to convince myself. Maloney's is fantastic for a bunch of other reasons as well - namely their amazing salads, gluten free products, fantastic range of fruit and veg, and tasty fresh gluten free vegetarian lasagne. So you should go there - and buy some Conscious Chocolate.

Most places seemed to have major lack of anything fresh looking but there were more options here. I mean, it's def not WF or Sprouts but it was great compared to anything we'd come by in the prior two weeks. After all, being relatively the best is still the best. The store was easy to find and only about a mile away from the main strip of Manly but that was far enough away that the crowds didn't come over. Private lot outside that was mostly full but there were cars coming in and out so wasn't awful.

They also have some of the best Turkish delight I've ever tasted. Available in almond, vanilla and rose, it'll set you back just a few dollars for a plate and is great to take along to dinner parties. (Look near the dried fruit and nut section in the fresh fruit department.) The Banana Joe's website has a great tabouli recipe too!

They have Chobani Greek Yoghurt (hit or miss at other supermarkets) and if they could just get on the Puregg Egg White train, I could ditch Woolies at Marrickville Metro completely and just shop here.
