Layers of chocolate and orange zest, a Hungarian specialty!

Stocked and DELICIOUS! We found this small shop while walking around downtown Blowing Rock and the desserts we tried were so fantastic, we thought we'd leave a review. Everything was neat, clean, and VERY professional looking. We talked with the owner's daughter, who says her mom makes everything from scratch. I was most curious about the Dobos -- a Hungarian layered dessert of chocolate mousse, sponge cake, and orange zest with ganache and a dark chocolate wafer on top -- said to be enjoyed best at room temperature, but I think I'd enjoy it more cold. We purchased one of these and a key lime cheesecake, which had toasted meringue on top -- absolutely to die for!! You can tell they work hard and are truly passionate about their pastries. Unsure of their normal hours, but we went on a Sunday and they were closing at 5. Definitely worth stopping at. I kind of want to go back and get another flavor of cheesecake and maybe a chocolate mousse cake

Yelp needs to add another 5 star option, for those businesses that are outstanding in every single way. Flavia's would definitely rate 10 stars. This pastry business is located in a tiny cottage, think She Shed, on a small side street in downtown Blowing Rock. Everything was nicely labeled and priced but there were names I hadn't heard before. Julie was very informative and kindly answered all of our, "Ooooh, what's that?" questions. We were torn between a couple of items, so like any sensible person, we bought both. She told us to eat them at room temperature for best enjoyment. She said the "Crème" is homemade puff pastry with a thick layer of Mousseline Cream. That means they take their crème patisserie and then add silky butter. Is your mouth watering yet? We each got a Crème and a Cream Puff. We ate the Crème first and sweet mother of all things delicious, it was otherworldly. We immediately prayed that the Puff would have the same filling. It did. When we go back next year, I'll be getting a treat for everyday we are there. TIP #1: Beware Donna. She was in the next store Serves You Right. She offered to take our pink pastry box. Everyone in BR is so nice, we thought she was being helpful so we could shop. Then we saw the humorous glint in her eyes! Pastry Thief! LOL! Donna and Karen told us that Julie is the daughter and her mother is from Germany. The mom makes everything in Hickory and they drive it up fresh every day. They raved about everything! TIP #2: They are closed every Wednesday, so plan ahead.

[Grade: A+] Located in the quaint little, Hallmark-esque town of Blowing Rock, this incredible local, small business has dominated my taste buds unlike any other sweets, dessert, or pastry place I've been to so far. We came here after snow tubing, so we were definitely craving something to eat after working up a sweat. Luckily we managed to hit up this place right before their December shutdown too! The first thing I thought of after tasting these cheese cakes was how rich, decadent, and how it was not overwhelming in any sense. It was absolutely perfect in the baseline cheesecake and then blows you out of the water with the differing varieties of cheesecakes. We got the key lime, oreo, and pecan pie cheese cakes and they were all so good in their own ways. There's a lot of fancy words I could use to try to recreate the beauty of how these cheesecakes explode in flavour, but I can only heavily implore you to come on your own and see what it's like! Overall, I'd definitely come back whenever I pass through Blowing Rock. It's a phenomenal rare experience, and especially an unexpected treasure of the area.

Wonderful small business to support! Do not miss this place. The cakes and pies are pieces of artwork and taste wonderful. The daughter was the one to wait on us and she was so sweet and patient while we tried to narrow our decision. We purchased the apple crumble cheesecake and went back for a piece of the coconut cake. Both were wonderful. Both pieces were more than enough to share!

Service was great! If I had questions they were very happy to help answer. I got three desserts for hubby and I to try. Red velvet cheesecake, peanut butter cheesecake and chocolate covered cannoli. I love to bake and make a lot of cheesecakes. I was not a fan of the peanut butter topping cheesecake. The plus side is they have such a great variety that I'm going back this week to try more. Everything else was delicious.

All delicious but the lemon cheesecake was INCREDIBLE! Airy, light, and the perfect amount of sweetness.

Flavia's deserts are what dreams are made of!!! Everything that I tried was amazing, but the cheesecake was especially to die for. Do yourself a favor and get an assortment of the best European delights you've ever had in your life. You will not regret it.

We found parking on a side street near Blowing Rock Brewing, so decided to enjoy a drink and get some lunch. We were seated quickly, near a heater, which was nice to help us warm up after being on the mountain. A waiter came by with menus to take our order. We asked for some suggestions, but he was a little less than enthused to offer advise. They had a good variety of beers, so my wife and I each got one, and shared them. We got the Pina Colada Kolsch and the Cloud Rise Hazy Ipa. Both were tasty, the Pina Colada Kolsch had a much stronger pineapple flavor than I expected, but in a good way. For food we started with the white cheddar poblano, which I expected to be more of a liquid queso for some reason. It was instead for of a soft, spread, which was really good, and paired well with the chips. And then we split the Turkey Reuben, which I figured would be made with deli meat, instead, it was warm, cooked chunks of turkey, really great flavor, and hit the spot for us. The sides with the sandwiches were a bit lacking, only offering hot chips, and green beans....I've never gotten the whole hot chip craze, but green beans just seamed like too odd of a side option for a sandwich It was a good visit, and a good meal, to get us back on our feet. Overall, a nice space, with bar seating, a back room, a back and front patio, plenty of space to hang out, relax and enjoy their beer. Food and drink were both good and worth a visit if you're in the area.
