I tried to time it correctly so the shoes would still be fresh for my race in September, but well broken in. After doing some research and being heavily influenced by social media, I landed on Hokas for my budget, the longevity, and their ubiquity. You will get paired with a salesperson upon arrival no matter what your intent is, so go in expecting that. I had heard good things about the fitting so I did that, got my cute little report, and tried on a bunch of different shoes. The salesperson was great about going and getting different sizes, etc - I just feel uncomfortable with that level of 1:1 attention/eyes on me when making a purchasing decision, so that was more of a con to me than a pro. No room to breathe and make a decision. They were also busy and I felt like an imposition somehow? Vibe was a bit off. ANYWAYS - it would have been more helpful if the salesperson had simply asked what I was looking for and allowed me to peruse before running in the back to get shoes - I could have saved myself some time and left a little less frustrated. They won't have all the colors available, and I knew I wanted plain black and white...which they didn't have in store. It was still good to try stuff on, but I was hoping to get the shoes that day. Luckily I was able to order directly from the Hoka website (free shipping!) and they came within three days. I feel really bad about not being able to make my purchase through the store, but I look forward to continuing to utilize Fleet Feet for all my other running needs as we get closer to race day! I am grateful for the huge number of races they put on each year through their sister company, Yellow Jacket, and appreciate the convenience of bib pickup here for other races I've run in the past. read more

Buying a pair of sneakers shouldn't be a hassle, it was. I had $45 from rewards. it takes $160 to get a $15 reward. So I spent a lot of money there in the past. I talked to barbara about purchasing sneakers online and she didnt know how to apply my rewards. I got the sneakers and they didnt fit so I returned them and wanted buy others. The assistant manager in the store today was very pompous. She was raising her voice to me as she explained they wouldnt refund my rewards so I could use the rewards for another pair of sneakers. I usually have a lot of respect for Fleet Feet, but I feel that the owner of the Rochester franchise is doing a poor job. They are losing fantastic employees because they won't give full time hours. They require some employees to go all the way to Buffalo to work shifts. I have frequented other Fleet Feet locations in the past. Over ten years ago, I began going to the Syracuse location, and they improved my ability to run by allowing me to buy two different sized shoes since my feet are different by 1.5 sizes. That location never charged me for buying two full pairs of shoes. They either didn't charge extra or there was a small surcharge. Brooks running shoes are nationally known for having a program that allows runners to buy two different sized shoes. The Rochester Fleet Feet does not allow this, even though I know I did buy to different sized shoes here years ago. I figured, that coming back from shopping at a Fleet Feet in Seattle where they allowed me to buy different shoes of any brand, that I could also do this at the Rochester location. Instead, they insisted I would need to buy two full pairs of shoes. I felt bad for the associate who was so wonderful and spent the time fitting me with great shoes, but I decided to not purchase shoes there. I want to support small businesses, but instead I bought my shoes on Zappos because they have started a program where people can buy different sized shoes. I think it would be wise for the Rochester Fleet Feet to reflect on their business model. We all have different bodies. Having good running shoes has prevented me from having injuries, but the cost for two pairs is extremely high. I think Fleet Feet should be aware of the inequity they are reinforcing with their prices and customer service. As a student in graduate school, I need to be aware of my spending, but I also see running shoes as a necessity because running is a way I destress. I hope the Rochester Fleet Feet reevaluates their running shoe policy and that their management begins to treat employees with more respect and autonomy. read more

Fleet feet is a local favorite for runners and athletes alike, and the location that I have frequented the most is at the Culver Road Armory. As you walk in there is a hostess, that asks if you have an appointment. It is all very official. Afterward, you are assigned a staff member to measure you, and give you an assortment of shoes to try on that will suit your needs. For me, I get a little overwhelmed with someone following me around and pushing me to purchase $140 sneakers. This isn't a "just-looking" place. If you are someone that has a specific need and wants help with sizing, Fleet Feet is the place for you. They certainly know their products, and what types of shoes might help correct an issue you have. They carry Asics, Brooks, Saucony, New Balance, and Mizuno. They may have more brands, but those are the majority that was on display. There are also racks of athletic wear, and special cushy socks that go for about $10 a pair. A friend of mine was about to purchase a pair of Brooks, but quickly looked online to see if they were offered cheaper elsewhere. For the most recent releases of shoes, the pricing was pretty standard and not much more expensive (if not cheaper) than Amazon, Zappos, and DSW. You get what you pay for, and they save your information on their computer to see what types of support have worked best for you previously before pulling new shoes for you to try for your following visits. read more

Loved my experience at Fleet Feet! My runner friend took me here to get fitted into sneaks as I'm training for my first 1/2 marathon--now 3 weeks away. (Holy) The store itself is very clean and organized. A guy named Ryan helped me. He was wonderful! Very good at explaining and giving suggestions. First he measured my feet, relaxed and then standing. Then he took video of me walking barefoot, and analyzed my feet with each step. Felt like I learned so much about myself lol. I love Fleet Feet and Yellow Jacket Racing. This is my favorite running store and racing company in Rochester. They store always has friendly, helpful staff and I almost always find what I need and always get help when I don't. The one time they didn't have something in my size they got it for me from one of their other nearby locations. They also have great paced runs on Saturdays. Great experience at Fleet Feet Sports. I've been before (to the store in Syracuse, at least), but my mother and I are headed for a day trip to NYC in mid-May and I wanted her to have the best sneakers possible for all the walking around. When we're in the city, we always spend the day wandering NYC by foot, but my mother has had some issues with plantar fasciitis in the last year or two. I definitely want her to be prepared for all the walking, so off to Fleet Feet we went! Anyway, we get to the store and have her name put down for the stride assessment and fitting process. After a bit of initial confusion (we were told a young man was going to help us, but he had been told to help the woman 'wearing purple' - my mother was wearing a purple shirt - but he ended up finding a woman close by ALSO wearing purple...so just a tad bit of confusion, no biggie, and I wouldn't have even mentioned it, really. The man who was managing the different staff and those waiting to be fitted asked me what happened though), we were matched with a super helpful and enthusiastic young woman who definitely pinpointed (without us giving any info or hints) all the issues my mother has with her walk/stride. She sat down with my mother after recording her walk (something they often do with an iPad as you walk down the length of one of their carpeted walkways), and walked my mother through what she saw as problem points - including her mild over-pronation and the propensity for her right foot/ankle to compensate for pain in her left (often associated with the plantar fasciitis). A couple sneaker options were brought out, and my mother tried each of them on - walking around the store to see how they felt. After deciding on the most comfortable pair (Brooks Adrenaline GTS 15s), my mother also got fitted for a pair of Superfeet insoles, which, once the correct cushioning was decided on, were specifically trimmed to fit perfectly in her new sneakers. Awesome. I'm not going to lie - I was super tempted to buy some sneakers for myself while we were here, especially considering there were new Brooks "Boston Launch 2" Special Edition sneakers on sale. They had little lobsters on them! I totally would have given in and purchased them for myself if hadn't just made a massive student loan payment. Haha. TL;DR Awesome experience buying my mother new sneakers and insoles specifically fitted for her feet and stride. I just WISH I could remember the name of the young woman who helped us. She was totally helpful and made the buying experience a great one. My mother should be all ready for NYC now, and I even want to come back here for another fitting for myself! Very Unhappy - crowed today and staff allowed several customers to be served before me. Staff finally returned and said they had nothing in my size. Treated very rudely. When I said tell Boots and Ellen there customer service has severely declined the staff said "why don't you send them an email!! Drove directly to Medved and bought my shoes within 15 minutes and was treated great. I recently came back here to get sneakers as mine were worn out and I was getting some pains in my ankle up to my leg up to my hip while running. As usual they have a ton of great staff who greet you as soon as you walk in. I told them I needed new sneakers and I was paired up with an associate right away who stayed with me the whole time and offered great care while helping me. We did the whole fit process of me taking off my shoes and walking to be recorded to see how my feet work during walking and measuring my feet to see if I am in the right size and then the associate would suggest the right shoes from there. I was brought out three pairs of shoes to start with. I felt like Cinderella, they put the shoes on me and laced them up as well - It was great I didn't have to do any work. I vetoed the first pair right away. then the second pair was okay but I liked the third pair better but not enough to buy them. The associate stated he would pull out a few more pairs and I let him know I liked purple and that is how I wound up with the shoes that I have... because they have purple. They fit great and are what I need for the way my feet move while walking/running. After we picked out the sneakers it was time to pick out some inserts to help with my arch support. We put in the middle arch amount first and it wasn't enough so we changed it. I wound up having the highest amount of arch support their inserts offer and it was just the right amount necessary for me. I was a happy camper. The store has a rewards program and for every certain amount of money you spend, you get $15.00 in rewards cash to use at the store. since my purchase was so expensive and I have a previous purchase, I know have $30.00 store credit for here which I will use by going back and getting another sports bra. I still won't give this place 5 stars even though I always have amazing experiences and that is simply because they do not have a lot of variety. The shelves could hold more clothes and more variety and even though my sneakers have purple on them which I wanted, I think they are ugly. I am so thankful to have Fleet Feet and their wonderful folks here in Rochester. I came here for my first pair of professionally fitted running shoes about a year ago when I started getting into it and knew my old shoes weren't cutting it. I was fitted in a couple different pairs of shoes that are not only big enough (nice, roomy, toe box!) and also helps with my overpronation issues. Well. These shoes are magic. I have since bought another pair just to rotate in and keep my milage down on them. Their prices were competitive with any reputable retailer (online or otherwise); don't be cheap on buying the best shoes! As for their races (also with Yellowjacket Racing), they are among some of the most well-organized, friendly, and enjoyable races I have ever attended. The staff are supportive and fun, the amenities are great, and I always have a safe and enjoyable time, with any distance, 5k to half marathon. read more

I am a novice runner, but since I'm training for an event which requires me to be as lean as possible, I'm suddenly running approx 20 miles per week. After suffering from horrible calluses with my existing sneakers, I decided it was time to give the pros at fleet feet a try. Jake was an amazing and very knowledgable help. Not only did he assess my foot situation, but he took this "selecting the right sneaker" thing - which is very easily overwhelming for a newbie - and made it very simple and easy for me. After assessing my problems, my gait and my needs he pulled a few sneakers for me to try along with some supportive inserts. After giving me some education and letting me try a couple of different styles I chose a new sneaker that I am very happy with. No more fussing around with the wrong shoe. Fleet Feet is actually totally dedicated to customers and it shows. I bought a pair of Asics here a few years ago and they worked out well. I used them to train for a leg of the Rochester Marathon relay. This year, I decided to do the Half Marathon. This was a huge undertaking for me so I went back to Fleet Feet for a new pair for training and running the race. I got a pair of super comfortable Brooks' back in June. I realized though, that they were TOO comfortable when I got a pair of zero-drop minimalist Merrels for train running. The minimilast Merrels were just much better for my running style and I ended up running the race in them, so I returned the Brooks to find something comparable. The folks at Fleet Feet worked with me, bringing me out 4 pairs of shoes that would be similar to my beloved Merrels, but with no luck. THREE MONTHS after buying the Brooks' I got a full refund from Fleet Feet. I'll tell anyone who is serious about running to go to Fleet Feet because they actually care about getting people into the best shoes possible, even if ends up being ones they don't have. read more

I had a good first experience here. I had to wait a few minutes to be helped but that was ok. They do so many measurements to help select the right shoe. They measure your feet, watch your gait and have a scan done of your foot. They review their findings with you and discuss what you're looking for in a new pair. I was able to try on several different shoes and even run on the track in a few pairs. They have a wide selection and really know their inventory. I was also fitted for insoles which was nice. I would definitely recommend coming here if you are a new runner or a seasoned one! read more

Horrible store. I will never buy a product from here they don't care about you as a customer only your money. None of the shoes have price tags. I bought a pair and the sales person said they were $129 when I cashed out they were $169. Wow, I still wanted the shoes and made the purchase. Later: I signed up for races and events, none ever went correct. Different times, wrong distances etc etc... I spent 3 years getting my kids to run, and this store distroyed it. I talked with the owner Boots, who said I was the worst customer he ever met. I just wanted what I paid for. I called the corporate office and emailed. 6 months later no answer. They don't care about you as a customer at any level. They only care about the dollar... Don't buy from here go online get the same product and don't deal with them. I made my first trip to Fleet Feet and I'm so glad that I did. Cheryl was very helpful and found a few shoe options for my very narrow feet. The appointment started with a computer analysis of my feet, that information was used to get the correct size shoes and inserts. I've worn my new sneakers on a few walks and already notice an improvement. Main issues: I would NOT recommend shopping here for gifts as returns are difficult to manage. Let me tell ya a little bit about Fleet Sports... attempting to walk into the store is annoying they have the largest door it's extremely heavy and awkward to open and with the wind coming from the expressway (poor location) the door slams my hand on the way in... I should have known to turn back there.... However, my girlfriend knew I wanted some new shoes and she had bought me a gift card for this store so in we go to get shoes. As were walking in the first employee greets me with force! The Gentleman comes barreling towards me asking me what he can help me with. I responded politely, "Just looking around, thanks" About 1 min later after looking at some shoes another worker lady sneaks up behind me, startling us and says "umm can I help you?" In a very crude tone. As if we are in the wrong place. The entire experience just goes downhill from there... I found three different shoes I liked tried to try them all on, they were essentially out of anything that anyone with style would wear. I looked for some warm gear or hats instead considering it's practically winter and they basically only have summer gear in stock when it's already November. So after they didn't have any shoes in the right size we decided we should return the gift card she bought me less than 24 hours ago at this store. That was a ridiculous thought. Let's all be real here, on the receipt it does not say you cannot return gift cards. The receipt clearly shows a sku number the pos system acknowledges as a gift card. The first woman says oh okay I'm not sure if we can return gift cards.. Let me go check with the manager. Granted I've worked at 5-10 retail stores anyone who did that knows it's just up to what the employees say, they can be a jerk or they can just do it. Another kid came up while one worker was checking with the manager and said yea we should be able to no problem. Then the girl came back to tell me they can't return it. I explained we just purchased it and that you don't have anything in my size and she didn't care. The entire thing seemed very sketchy. Since the manager was not willing to speak with me and was hiding in the back I had to call to speak with them afterwards to express my disappointment in their poor poor customer service. That was even worse. When I asked to speak with the manager the kid who answered pretended to be the manager and told me he was for about 5 mins and then finally caved and admitted he was not the manager and transferred me to the biggest bitch I have ever met in my life. She sounded like a recording... called herself the owner. "Ellen" By her tone you would think she was purposely trying to upset me or record me on a radio show prank. I have never encountered a more disrespectful owner in my life. She was using the fakest voice with just outrageous inflection making it quite clear she did not want to have a reasonable discussion with me at all. She did not care about providing a solution and that I couldn't find anything in her store and pretended the purchase we made yesterday had no way to be returned in the system. That is a complete lie and fabrication we all know you could have returned a cash purchase made yesterday when I have the receipt in hand. She was not concerned with making an exception and not for nothing but their product selection is horrible. The men's shoes are all in women's colors. Do not go here. This place should be shut down. Entitled bitch running the show who doesnt care about her customers. The test run area is pathetic and they do not keep it up to par.. just let it go to crap and dont repair when necessaey. Similar to how they run the training and customer service from the top down. There are many many much better options to get good running shoes in Rochester. I am quite sad to post this review since I have been a customer for years to the Fleet Feet in the D.C. area and always equated the store with experience and great customer service. I couldn't have had a more opposite experience in the Rochester store the first and now only time I walked in. I came in the Spring, with short amount of time and was hoping to simply get a newer version of my current shoe. After the employee on the phone finished his call, he had started helping another customer who had come in after me. I let him know he had mistakenly taken another customer before me, and expected he just didn't see me and hoped he could help since I only had a few minutes. He didn't seem to care what so ever, and clearly expected me to wait. Strike 1 for rude. Then asked for advice on helping on a new version of a shoe I had liked, Strike 2. When I couldn't remember the exact model, he became more irate, and honestly became so abrasive I explained I had no need to deal with someone so rude. And left. Ouch. So disappointing. For a store that has made its name on customer care and experience. They really screwed up on this hire. Won't ever be going back. read more

I have been shopping, running, and racing through Fleet Feet for a few years. The store; it's really nice. I remember when they were in this teeny box of a place on Monroe. If you need help, the staff members are really knowledgeable. Their stuff is pricey, I don't buy all of my running and fitness stuff at Fleet Feet, but when I want to treat my self to some nice Saucony tights or a New Balance top; I go here. A lot of the running gear is actually priced very competitively, but it ends up being cheaper than (for example) shopping online because you get reward vouchers for $15 for every $150 you spend here. The best part of Fleet Feet for me has been the running programs. I got started running several years ago in their No Boundaries Learn to Run 5k program. (I know people who started in this program that run marathons and ultras now!) So many people have benefited from their programming which I believe has expanded to include walkers all the way to marathon runners. In fact, last year I participated in their triathlon training program which put me in close training with experienced triathletes. I made some really close friends in that program! To tell you a story about how they have positively impacted so many lives in this community-- I was at a restaurant one day and I had on a jacket I earned for 100% attendance in the 5k program that I mentioned above years before. Anyway it says "Fleet Feet Sports" on the back. A woman came up to me and asked me if I worked there, and I explained that no I don't, but I do participate in a lot of their events. She couldn't hold back all the positive things she knew about them-- apparently they have a program affiliated with her work and she has seen so many people inspired by Fleet Feet programs. I get it lady, I get it. You can always join in on any of their FREE runs they organize from their store. They have hill workouts, sessions that teach how to run trails, a whole bunch of other random runs. For example, they had a Waffle Run not too long ago and a Pi Day run. If you want to find out about these runs they post on their Facebook page and often create event pages for the runs. Ok I need to wrap this up, but one more last thing: the races. I love all the races! They run so smoothly. If you ever run with some other businesses in other parts of the country, you will see what I mean. I have never had a problem with timing.
