Currently they have their Christmas selection on display which includes some beautiful items, set out like a Christmas market in wooden chalets, which is wonderful to shop in.

However when comparing them, especially this Christmas time, Mere Park comes out on top not only with it's innovative store layout, but the selection of decorations and gift ideas on offer. I spent about twice as long looking around their Christmas 'market' than I did trying to find my way around the maze at Wyevale. I also find Mere Park to be slightly cheaper, and their cafe is a lot better, both in terms of food quality and customer service.

The garden centre has large carpark and caters very well for disabled by having a very large disabled only carpark right by the door. There are several entrances and exits so that you can always get out near to your car rather than having to traipse miles with the things you have bought. There is a very good area with outside where you can get various garden statues and water features. Inside there is a lovely cafe, and also a section where you can buy locally produced goods such as pies and cakes. It has a very good gift and also a nice book section.

There is a Hobbicraft store in the grounds of Bridgemere that sells all sorts of craft materials. Bridgemere is a great place to visit in the run up to Christmas as they have a Christmas shop selling lovely decorations and gifts and they do some great Christmas trees in all different sizes that don't drop needles. They also have a carousel outside and a Santa's grotto. If you are looking for something for your garden it is a great place to visit and is also great if you just fancy an enjoyable afternoon out as there is plenty to look at.

The fish section is very good and the fish staff are very knowledgable helping with compatability, and also being hapy to help with any health concerns you may have with fish you have already bought. The garden section is very good, both inside and outside, and if its dry wandering down to the lake is a lovely experience, again to see the fish in the water, but also to the plants and treescertainly gives you inspirtaion for your own garden, if not a a little too grand! The store is large, well laid out & in terms of non-plant produce, well stocked, if largely overpriced. The plants however, are generally very disappointing, due both to the limited range & the poor quality. A lot of the plants are either unwatered or over watered & worringly often diseased or suffering from infestations. The few plants that I have purchased have been badly root bound & failed to flourish.

Your standard garden centre stuff, a good range of outdoor and indoor plants, seeds, bulbs, tacky looking ornaments, fish, candles, gift wares, clothing, indoor and outdoor furniture, and a cafe with a reasonable array of hot foods, salads, cream cakes, puddings, hot and cold drinks including alcohol, and even ice cream sundaes in summer. Winter of course brings a local old bloke dressed as Santa too, that isn't always amazingly convincing. Everything is moderately priced, and kind of average. Nothing totally amazing, but it'll all do!

The last time I went was to visit the fabulous craft centre, but I had to buy a plant too as there stock is wonderful. A huge selection of all sorts of plants and people who can help. From small seedlings to large trees. Flower pots and all equipment is also on sale. Designer type of wellies and jumpers and fleeces are on sale and so many other things that you now find in a garden centre, like candles and ornaments. You can have a coffee or a light snack at the restaurant and large groups can be catered for in advance.

As you enter there's a remarkable selection of gifts available. If you're on present buying duty, this place is probably worth a visit before hitting the high street. We have a friend who's a keen cook and found a great selection of Birthday gifts we couldn't have found anywhere else. The cookbook stand we bought her now sits atop her kitchen work surface. I have strict orders from my mother-in-law that next time we visit she must come as she wants to take home some biscuits, and chocolates for her peckish hour before bed. Walking out the back of the shop the nursery is pretty well stocked, although it's just not as impressive as the shop. There's also a landscaped garden, planted up to show you all on offer. Once you've satisfied your shopping needs there's a pretty little cafe doing a nice line in teas, coffees and breakfast sandwiches. It may be looking a bit tired these days, but when the sun's shining it's still a nice place to enjoy a pot of tea from the café or for planning your purchases.
