The work that was done was okay, 3 stars not 5 due to the weed barrier not working, I have weeds…read moresprouting all around the rocks, and for debris disposal (of what I could see, was pushed off to the side of the property and into the adjacent lot). For the 1 star overall see below, I was the sucker for this company so future customer beware.
I live in Del Rio and had reached out to the Stone Yard Materials in January about some landscaping and due to a trip could not start until March of 2026. This leads to my first issue with them: Poor Timeline. Most of the timeline discussion was over the phone, but on March 3rd I reached out that I was ready to begin the project on the original quote of $2990 for rocks, siding, debris disposal, weed barrier and labor. It was not until March 17th that Juan was able to come to the house and asses the work area. He had communicated over the phone that he had other jobs, that once they start they do not take another, supposedly, until the current one is done. The rocks were delivered on the 21st of March, where they sat until the 31st until finally spread. My frustration was having to reach out and ask if work would begin along the 14 day period, seems reasonable until...
On the 17th of March, the first bill that was signed to commence the work was for a total of $4048.55, a 35% increase from the original quote but in discussions with Juan we decided we would need some dirt to cover up existing landscape and we OVERESTIMATED the amount of Rocks I would need to eliminate additional rock deliveries... so with the price increase and the fact that I paid upfront I figured work would be done right away and I was the priority job. Hence why I assert that the 14 day work period is ridiculous.
I become the priority sucker (not customer) because on March 31st the day of completion for the job, I am handed another bill for $1712.19 which covered additional edging strips , 3 yards of additional rocks, 34 piece of edging install labor and rock spreading labor...A charge that I could not dispute since, without approval from me the CUSTOMER, the labor and work was done.
The total for the project now being $5760.74, a 92% increase from the original quote.
I found leftover edging on the jobsite and argued that there was a remainder of at least a yard of rock left out front on the house. I was able to take off about 200$ but was charged for things that were "left out of the original bill" (the $4048.55 March 17th bill). All in all, the debris that I was charged $500 dollars for remained as a pile of dirt in my yard, that upon spreading this weekend we found the remainder of 2 yards of rock.
This company scammed me by charging double for labor, extra siding, and rocks that they hid in a pile of dirt in my front yard, that still have not come by to remove like they said, and I paid for them to do.
Maybe it's because I am in Del Rio, in the military or I am a white guy that The Stone Yard Materials LLC felt that they could do this to me but don't be a sucker and don't be scammed like I was.
