The employee put stickers all over the house, making it appear that Spencer for Hire was the contractor for the AC, the electrical box, etc. The "house that did not belong to us" was left with unapproved stickers in multiple places!! The home owners, my husband & I were all furious when we discovered the stickers! We bought the house & 5 years later, the stickers still infuriate me every time I see his van!

I mentioned that I needed other quotes for work around here too, but nothing specific. They were going to call me back, so I waited patiently for the callback. By the way, this year I am doing a Master Bathroom remodel, new air conditioner servicing contract and two new doors, one external front door, and one internal glass door, also a new single car garage door and I am pricing up plank board style hardwood flooring installed throughout the house. In addition to all that, a quote to build a 10-foot brick fire pit poolside and Pool re-surfacing with paver decking. Maybe a new sliding glass door too! This is my year to get things done at the beach house! I was excited to find Spencer for Hire's advertisement in one of the local ad mags and was really looking forward to working with them, Mostly because I never heard of them and they sounded good on the phone and had good references. LOL! Did you know they never called me back!! They just didn't call me back. So, now I am looking around again for qualified contractors to get these jobs done. I get a distinct impression that Spencer does not need my business because they did not return my call to set an appointment or touch bases or anything, a real-time waster....... other than that, they seem like a good company on paper and on the phone, you should give them a try! The woodpeckers have been eating way too much off it, and the root system became so invasive it started coming towards the foundation of the house. Much to my chagrin and it broke my heart. I had to take the tree out. I obtained five quotes from various trees services in the Duval County area. I have to say upon meeting Bud I immediately knew this is who I was going to trust. He explained things in a way that I understood how he was going to do it and what to expect. There was no pressure and when I asked about liability insurance immediately not a problem, he made a phone call and it was taken care of. That's true commitment. His team arrived on time and I wished I had gotten everybody's name so that I could mention them because not only where they professional they took care of my property. They had great customer service skills and they truly are experienced and professional at taking trees down more so extra large trees. The team worked together in unison and it was like watching clockwork. Everything happened the way it was supposed to. I was extremely impressed with how the tree came down in pieces and not once did anything come close to hitting my house or a neighbors. The team was outstanding! Overall, I cannot say enough wonderful things about this tree service! Starting from the initial contact with Bud to the team who came out, this was seamless, smooth and outstanding!!

While researching the most economical ways to have mulch and ground cover, I found the JAX Pine Straw Guy!!!! I got 25 bales of very nice looking pine straw the very next day, after I ordered!! It goes a long way!!!! The young man that took this business over recently was professional, polite and responsive (His name is Jordan). The price was very reasonable, he unloaded everything by hand, stacked it neatly where I asked him to and then cleaned up the stray pine needles once he was finished unloading. OMGoodness!!! Buyer beware... On 11/12/21 we contracted with Jason Provau…read morefrom Handyman's Best to order and install a new (exact replacement) door that leads from our kitchen to the outside porch. After his assistant took numerous measurements and pictures we placed the order, my husband drove to the factory signed the order and paid the invoice. We received the new door on 12/09/21. There were several issues with the door: the number of bore holes, the glass and trim were incorrect. On 12/14/21 we received what we thought was the corrected door which Jason and his helper installed on 12/20/21. Relying on Jason, the door install specialist, we didn't notice that this second door's bore holes were on the wrong side. Our original door opened on the right side. The new door opens on the left which makes the door open to the rear exterior wall which is 20" away from the door opening. This is extremely inconvenient. Not being professional builders, how are we supposed to "catch" every error. We had already spotted several mistakes the first time. At a minimum a professional's first responsibility should be to verify that the exact replacement door we wanted is in fact the exact replacement. When we questioned why he installed it that way Jason told us it was a new building code that required the left side exit. My husband contacted our county building department and learned there is no such code. At this point Jason pointed us to the verbiage on the backside of his contract that my husband signed but didn't read. It is filled with legalese removing him from having ANY RESPONSIBILITIES. Relying on his contract verbiage, Jason refused to take any responsibility. In fact, whether we paid for another exact replacement door - $1,700 or, had him do some sort of on-property retrofit, he wanted us to pay him the same labor fee we paid to have the wrong door installed. This is a buyer beware alert! Legally Jason is covered, but it is unprofessional and dishonest!
