They had a ranch filled with animals and the Audubon Society asked Jean if she would be willing to help injured birds. That first year she helped 50 birds paying for everything herself. The number and kinds of patients increased occupying all of their time. Through the years money was raised to start a hospital and volunteers stepped in to ease the load. Although Jean and Ruth have both passed away their legacy lives on as a group of dedicated people continue their mission to aid injured wildlife. For three decades the Treasure Coast Wildlife Hospital has been helping care for sick, injured and orphaned wild animal patients, as well as providing information and education for human residents and visitors. They are a non profit corporation. All of their funding comes from privation donations or grants. Their goal is to rehabilitate and return animals to the wild. They are the only wildlife hospital serving Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, Okeechobee, and Palm Beach counties. They care for hundreds of animals a year. Some of their patients have included bobcats, alligators, and many species of birds. Their work is especially important because around 10 percent of the animals they treat are on the endangered, threatened, or species of special concern lists. I had the opportunity to visit the hospital during their 45th annual open house on Saturday. The community was invited to explore their 300 acres and meet their wildlife ambassadors. The had live music, food, and vendors. Admission was free but I was more than happy to donate so they can keep up their mission of rescuing animals. Donations are more important than ever as the endeavor to raise enough money to build a new wildlife center. I had a great day visiting the animals and touring the facility. I hope everyone who is able to gives money to this worthy organization so they can reach their goal of a new facility that will allow them to help even more animals.

Her vision was to help families who have families in the hospital or may be themselves an inpatient or outpatient and require medical assistance. At such a young age she had the wisdom and compassion to care about others, even while she was going through her own hardships. Her father, Kevin Sharkey, has made it his mission to continue to fulfill her dream. Molly's house has 14 rooms plus a library, an office area, 2 kitchens, 2 living room areas with games, a play area for children, and a chapel. Additionally, there is a garden in the backyard specifically meant to attract butterflies with one of the most beautiful fountains. If you are looking for a place of healing you have found it in Molly's House. We stayed for almost 2 weeks due to my son having surgery to correct his tibial dysplasia. I have never stayed at a place like this, but I know that I would love to stay here again if we ever needed to come back. The staff is incredibly loving and kind, the whole house is clean and tidy, you can cook your own meals to help save money rather than eating out constantly, and it is so close to the Saint Lucie River you can't help but go on walks down Stuart's Healthy Trail and let the breeze soothe your soul. Relax in the Serenity garden for some healing while taking in the colors of the butterflies and foliage. Maybe go to a nearby park to let the kids exhaust some of that excess energy. Whatever you need Molly's House is here to help. We were fortunate enough to meet some amazing people while staying here who made our stay even more healing with just their presence. I highly recommend Molly's House. When we move to Florida we are now considering Stuart as a top choice and I can't wait to volunteer at Molly's House. Life is all about getting back what you put in and Molly's memory lives on through helping others. I wish I knew you, Molly. The group chose St. V\incent de Paul, patron saint of the poor for their name and under the guidance of Sister Rosalie Rendu, they increased the number of people they were able to help. Volunteers of the organization are called Vincentians. The charity spread from France to Europe. In 1845 they established in St. Louis, Missouri. The organization is now world wide in 150 countries with 750,000 members. Every year across the country the St. Vincent De Paul Society provides 1.4 billion in aid to more than 4 million people every year. The store is staffed by volunteers and proceeds go to providing food and clothing, housing, rent and utility assistance, to the Port St. Lucie community. They sell donated furniture, household goods, lamps, small appliances, art collectibles, books, CD's, clothes, and accessories. They had a great selection and the prices were very reasonable in their clean and well organized store. They had a cute boutique section and you may even find vintage and antique pieces tucked into the shelves. Follow them on Facebook for notification of upcoming sales. If you are looking to donate, they accept household furniture, household goods, clothing, and toys in very good condition. Donations of food must be nonperishable and not expired. This long standing charitable organization is a wonderful place to shop and to give to.

Their name comes from the bible verse Matthew 17:20, Jesus said, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." The Mustard Seed Ministries mission is "to coordinate the energies of the Christian churches of St. Lucie County to meet the spiritual and material needs of the whole person and to make referrals to all available relief agencies in our community to take care of those in need". According to their website their "services include assistance with food insecurities, past due utilities, rent/mortgage payments, furniture, transportation/travel, emergency shelter, prescriptions, medical equipment, clothing, gasoline, medical care vouchers and many case-by-case interventions. As part of our food program, we implement a summer food program for school children who receive free/reduced meals during the school year; operate a Community Bucket Garden and an annual Community Thanksgiving Feast." For more than 3o years the Mustard Seed Ministries has been using a grass roots model to meet the needs of the community holistically. They are supported by hundreds of volunteers and community members who administer 17 programs and services available to individuals and families in St. Lucie County. They also operate a food pantry at their thrift store and provide medical education. Proceeds from this thrift store and the one in Ft. Pierce raise funds for their programs. The thrift store receives donations from businesses and the local community. They sell art, small appliances, clothes, furniture, accessories, and household goods. They sell a varied selection of items and prices are inexpensive. Strangest item found here this trip, a very serious portrait of Fred J Ball. Who was Fred and how did he end up here? I have so many questions but he is keeping watch on the store. So many cool treasures here. You can donate and shop in confidence knowing you are supporting one of the worthiest charities in St. Lucie County.

Their monthly Saturday night market is full of great vendors and live activities for the whole family to enjoy. Their summer camp for kids was a complete blast. We had so much for the weeks we were there, and the kids learned so many unique skills and activities.
