FSU is a wonderful University. My daughter graduated with a BSN. She was hired immediately graduating. The university is beautiful. You get the feeling you are in the northern part of the United States. The weather is amazing. They have a new student union and they are always updating the school. The gardens are well maintained. Ask her Professors gave her all the attention needed. They truly care that the students are bring what they need. Tallahassee is a growing city and is the capital of the state of Florida. read more

Your college of Music curriculum was good for completely sucking out my passion, And instead of listen to me, stopping the gossip, you continue, and make the problem so bad it results in Gossipers sabotaging my Junior Piano Performance recital, my only video and audio from the night heavily edited and destroyed manually. Blown away by the tour that my daughter and I had today. She's already applied and is waiting on decision day but WOW! Way to impress. They definitely knew her and her info and related to here and what they can do to help her grow. Another university made the pitch to the students to tell them what they could do to make the university better. Just a different feel. The campus is beautiful, everyone is friendly, and they have soooo much to offer. We learned about the school's history and the programs offered on our tour and it was definitely impressive. Ahem. Review: Numero 200. Thought I'd boost the rating up on Florida State's Yelp listing. Amenities include a world-class football stadium, dozens of sky-scraping dormitories, architectural marvels of lecture halls, a 24-hour library with the country's first double-sided Starbucks, a student union with a music venue and bowling alley, a three-story recreational and wellness like no other, a full-fledged movie theatre and fine-dining restaurants to accommodate all students and faculty. *Only the tip of the iceberg* Two things that stand out in particular that I have yet to mention. 1) The most beautiful campus in the Sunshine State. Hands down. The brick buildings, the green grass, the lush trees. On a cool day, you'll forget that you are still in Florida. Which no other campus in the state can boast. 2) The people. From my undergrad years to my post-grad experiences with FSU, the feeling remains the same. You'll forever be apart of the family. Great state university with a beautiful campus and a ton of great student resources. Expansive campus with a huge gym that has an inside pool, sauna, steam room, inside track, and more. The Leach offers free personal training for students, free fitness testing, fantastic programming and more. The library system is great and has a sizable list of journals for research into whatever your field of study is. The Wellness Center has it all too from chiropractic services to dental to mental health practitioners. They've got a bowling alley, tons of food options, coffee, movie theater, fantastic performances by the music school and theater school, nationally renowned lecturers and musical acts... Making it really difficult to leave campus. Proud of the Garnet and Gold. read more

Like Patty G., I was on a three-year plan to graduate college. Now I have no idea why. I have to admit, when I first started in living in Tallahassee, I couldn't wait to go back home (Miami). Some of my best high school friends were there. I missed the Latin culture. Very soon after that first semester, however, I realized that whenever I was visiting Miami, I wanted to go back to Tally... admittedly, not for the city itself, but for FSU. It simply became my second home. There's so much to take advantage of what this school has to offer... community and campus organizations, social events, amazing professors (at least, most of the time!), wonderful study abroad programs.... I loved being able to walk to places on campus and watching, say, the theater department's production of Sweet Charity or Into the Woods. I got to watch Anthony Rapp give a speech. I studied in Spain for six weeks. I must have seen almost every home football game possible (the energy at the stadium is simply fantastic!). I watched basketball games, baseball, soccer... I could probably name dozens more, and still dozens more I wish I had done! Parking on campus can be a pain, but I didn't have many issues on that account, since I tended to park at the University Center when I lived off campus. DO NOT attempt to park where you shouldn't. You probably will get fined. And towed. The public transportation in Tally was surprisingly easy to use, although a tad inconvenient (esp. considering the limited operating hours and the occasional fumbling with items you're trying to carry back to your dorm!). I cannot believe I rushed it all in three years. Oh, well. At least I completed an Honors in the Major project. Yay for productivity! Oh, and always... GO NOLES! read more

im going into my 2nd year at fsu and i absolutely love it. best decision of my life was choosing to attend university here. food is great (we have sushi on campus. sushi.) housing is good, almost everyone gets housing and the overwhelming majority are really nice. i was in the worst dorm there (salley hall) and i loved it! greek life is amazing but u don't need to be in a sorority or frat to have a social life. so many student orgs and opportunities for involvement and leadership (im holding 8 leadership positions at the end of my freshman year) the people r the absolute best and there is so much to do off campus as well (specifically night life and food) 10000000% recommend read more

I went to school here for many years and was in the Pre-medical/Exercise Science major. I am very unhappy with my experience at this univeristy. Maybe other departments were better than mine but, my de partment Exercise Science was horrible. For one I will talk about the department then the univeristy in general. Regarding my departmentthe advising was totally wrong and mis guided my in the wrong path. This pretty much ruined my opportunity to obtain a degree. Regina who was suppose to advise me gave me wrong advising and I do blame her for this occuring. The professors of the college level sciences were mostly too busy to speak or help you because they were doing research. I only had about 3 good professors my entire college career who actually cared. The rest you could not approach or were too busy. I would not recommend the premedical program at fsu. Go somewhere else. Regarding the college, FSU used to be a all women college and over 50% is all women. If you want to actually met a guy don't go here. For one guy there are 10 women.The university is huge. It is not well organized and hard to get from one place to the other. There are buses but, if you take one you will be late to your next class. The administration is pretty slow to get anything done and tuition and books is very expenesive. I guess tuition is expensive anywhere in America since the goverment does not suppose education very much. Overall, the city of Tallahassee is back woods. There is nothing to do but go to a couple crappy bars. I did not my enjoy my time here or would I recommend going to school here. read more

There's just no way I can top Miranda's list for FSU below. I still pine for FSU and Tallahassee, even though I left a few years ago. I can say, however, that I never waited more than 20 minutes for a parking spot. Word to the wise: When looking for parking on campus, always go right as the class before you is getting out. Works every time. Also, they have really great lecturers visiting throughout the year. I've seen Daily Show contributors, Ann Coulter (not a fan, but she is famous!), and Candace Bushnell. The comedians at Club Downunder are really good, and some are pretty nationally-known. The annual Pow Wow comedians are amazing. This year was Jim Gaffigan, but we've also had Dave Chappelle, Stephen Colbert, Sarah Silverman, and Jimmy Fallon. Damn, now I want to go back to college... Go Noles! read more

My "1" star review is solely based off of FSU parking services. First of all let me announce that this is not a service, yet an annoyance and hardship that many of my colleagues are baffled by. I am a hard working tuition-paying undergraduate student that deserves a spot to park her vehicle. I moved my vehicle last Friday for game day parking shenanigans. I didn't move my car to the top floor and therefore got a $30 parking citation for not moving it. With 40,000 students abiding by the rules and regulations of the university I would expect more parking availability. Yes this school was founded in 1853 but it is now 2016. I believe we need more parking options for people that live on campus. ALL FLOORS OF THE GARAGE SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE OCCUPIED. read more

I love this campus, and this school. Yes i am biased because I am currently a grad student here; however, Ive seen and visited LOTS of college campuses. The red brick buildings offer some color in the winter until the trees and flowers bloom again. I love how much FSU attire is worn all the time- garnet and gold everywhere all the time-i love it! There are also tons of events that the school tries to make free for students! Parking is a hassle, but what college campus doesnt have this problem? Of course, game days for football, basketball, and baseball are a blast! And theres a circus-such a unique aspect about this school! Definitely love this university, and its so nice to attend a school everyone who attends is proud of! Go noles! read more

This is for the music school, really. Had my application in for a graduate music degree all finished by September 1st, because they had told me they had rolling admission. Called and said that my app was finished, and they told me should be 2 weeks and I would hear a decision. About 3-4 weeks later (mid-late september), they said they changed it, and that they no longer have rolling admissions...to check back late november, or early December. Checked back beginning of December, they said they'd have a decision by prior to winter break. By the end of December, haven't heard anything. It kept going on like this. At first, they said i'd get a letter, and in addition they would tell me over the phone, but later that changed to "you'll receive an email", instead of telling through a phone call. Following times that I would call, they seemed to go back and forth with this bit of information. Finally called again on Feb 28th, they said they had "sent out my letter several days ago", and could tell me the decision over the phone (so much for an email, I suppose...). The day I finally got that letter, was at least 3 weeks after Feb. 28th, yet it was dated March 11th. Don't really understand how on Feb 28th, they claimed to send it out "several days ago", yet it has a date of March 11th when it finally arrived...but whatever. Few days later got accepted to a different school (after doing a pre-recorded audition and interview, which FSU didn't require...hmmm....), and am quite glad to put the ordeal behind me. If considering FSU, especially the music school, prepare to get the run-around over and over again as I have (a friend who also applied to their music school told me they had a similar experience as well...). The university I picked instead was much better with their communication. Hope you all have a better experience than I had. Just felt like I was treated very unprofessionally. read more

I absolutely love this school! I moved to Tally from Miami and it was definitely something to get used to, Tallahassee is very small town. Once you learn where to go and all the little spots and clubs/bars it's great though and you start to miss it when you leave. It becomes a 2nd home as someone else mentioned Now to the actual school... Pros: I love the sense of community and school spirit you feel simply walking on campus. The campus is beautiful. clean, and close to everything. As with any school there are 'good' and bad professors and get you as much from the academics (and everything else for that matter) as you put in but in my experience the professors are helpful and very knowledgeable in their fields. I definitely worked for every grade I received. There are MANY tutoring resources on campus to help with nearly any subject. The undergraduate research opportunities are amazing if you're in any of the science majors (as I was), so take full advantage of those. (Great grad school recommendations and experience!) Football season takes over the school and going to the games is not something you'll ever forget. It's easy to find where you fit in because there are many clubs/organizations if that's your thing. Cons: The psych department advisers are incompetent at best. Except for ONE, can't recall her name right name. I ended up taking 21 hours worth of credits my last semester because of incorrect information given to me by TWO of them (including the one for seniors). Luckily, I decided to check one last time that everything was finalized before i applied for graduation and saw an adviser who immediately saw what I was missing. The biology advisers were amazing though. They were extremely helpful and thorough. (I double majored.) ---Parking sucks but when I graduated they were in the middle of constructing two new garages plus like someone mentioned after a while you learn how to time everything right and don't usually have an issue. ---I developed a bad coffee habit after many late night genetics study sessions in Strozier! Damn Starbucks. Lol Overall, I loved my experience at FSU and would not trade it for the world. I spent three years here after attending a community college in S. FL and another university out of state. FSU and Tally provided me with MANY memories from partying on the Strip to 'studying' at Club Stroz or being thrown in the fountain on my birthdays. I went to FSU in 1999-2000 and have fond memories of it. I received a wonderful education with the psychology department and got to participate in valuable internships in the surrounding communities. The best part was attending the football games! Doak Campbell stadium is absolutely thrilling and I am a proud Seminole!!! My children are excited to attend FSU in the near future! Tallahassee is a very friendly town filled with both college students and families. Many delicious restaurants and night time activities consume the town. Great party school. Rough scholastic school. Staff in the Departments are very slow to help if at all. I attended here from Fall 11 to Spring 15. My experience was definitely under average. I was robbed the first night of Campus 100 yds from Campus PD. No one from the University reached out to me at all. I had no keys, wallet, or cell phone. I was an Actuarial Science major (hardest major on campus) they tell you that before you sign up. I've always been good at Academics, particularly Mathematics (its a heavy math based major). I CLEP'd out of everything but Calc I and started my Freshman year in that class. Absolutely no support for anyone Calculus II and up at Florida State University. ACE tutoring is garbage and I quote "we have no one here that can solve those problems." As a freshman in college I expect to have certain amenities in the form of EDUCATION. I mean jeez, I expected to live in a crappy dorm, be overcharged for food on campus, have zero parking but on top of that the really crappy effort given to their "Math" department was awful. If I could grade FSU it would result in a "F" on every topic. Parking, security, education, staffing, curriculum, you name it. Everything but Athletics would receive a failing score because obviously FSU puts all their marbles into their athletics. Campus PD is a joke. You won't feel very secure. Don't believe me? Go to their home page and look at how many issues and incidents they have and cross reference that with how many actual complaints get solved. I'll help you out. Zero. Want a first hand experience? In my freshman year at the Gilchrist dorm I had a fellow student who went out to drink. (Who would have thought?) He came back home late at night and proceeded to go into his bathroom and puke. He didn't break any rules but yet the RA called the Campus PD who proceeded to loudly bang on his door then unlock it with a key and arrest him for being sick. Mind you from a legal perspective there was absolutely no reason to break his privacy and enter his room without his consent then proceed to arrest him. I understand if they were concerned for his health but they took him, booked him, and he was charged with Underage drinking even though there was no probable cause to search his room. (while he was intoxicated) Now ask yourself if you are going to be in a similar position. He didn't ask for help, nor did he want to be arrested for drinking safely, walking home, and throwing up. Please note that if you have never attended this campus, it it what 90% of students do on game day. I will tell you this once. This campus is not an educational campus. This campus was intended to take your money and provide you the least education possible. Seriously reconsider and check out your choices of UF and USF if you plan to be a hard working undergraduate/grad. There's a reason why FSU is NOT known for being a scholastic school. Unless you are in Journalism/Bus/Sports Med/Arts I strongly suggest you research more into where you are going to get an education. Extra side note: I had a discrepancy with the school and followed the whole process of climbing up the corporate ladder. I spoke to Assistant Dean after Dean and got the same automated response. I finally emailed the Assistant DOS and DOS and got the same automated response. No one bothered to READ my email and I was always forwarded to someone lesser up on the school hierarchy who proceeded to give me the run around. I read another review and see that a similar incident happened to someone who was applying for the Music school. Don't expect much support from the Staff who head this Institute if you will call it that. It is more like a legal money laundering scheme that has been well thought out to rob youth of their education and finances while lining their pockets with your debt. read more
