Attended a play at the Charles Winter Wood Theatre on the campus of Florida A&M University. Truly enjoyed the performance (The Waiting Room); excellent acting! Very nice auditorium, comfortable seating, good stage sound. Though parking on college campuses in this town is a thorn in my side due to vacillating between trying to make sure I find a park where I don't get towed or trying not to park a mile away from the venue! In any case, parking was a breeze this time, which was a load off my shoulder! LOL! Will definitely plan to attend more plays and look forward to attending performances at Lee Hall Auditorium as well! read more

My child never got even a letter, email nothing about her admission status. Needless to say she's attending a pwi in a few weeks. It's all about who you know I guess. Black folks will never stick together. The tour was ok but put too much focus on sororities, fraternities and how a student should dress. Says a lot about all of the other on going issues that they have. Shame on you. I don't care about your thumbs down on this review because the least this university could have done was followed up. read more

Horrible school and horrible look for HBCUs. Staff is extremely unprofessional and unreliable. No one answers the phone and if they do they have an attitude. I transferred from another HBCU and didn't have to deal with the hardships that famu has put me through and as the number 1 public hbcu I expect much better. First let me say this place has a lot of issues BUT has a WHOLE LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES. The administration is extremely unorganized with SOME students, faculty, and staff. There are those that don't share information and this sucks and is a detriment to the students. No one knows anything because the one person that does know- doesn't share the information and is not readily available. I sometimes feel this is the biggest life test ever. Network your a-s off to figure out when everything is happening. As a learning institution FAMU takes in a lot of students that point blank period would not be accepted at any other university. This does not speak to EVERYone - but it's a large percentage. This is a GREAT thing. FAMU is known to (excuse my words) take nothing and make it into something. But this has changed. Many students are walking out or graduating with very little more then they started. It's the faculty's job to bring these students up to level of what will later be their competition. These issues are mostly seen in general education areas. But among Nursing, Pharmacy, Business, and Engineering I would rank FAMU high - even in comparison to the school across the tracks. And FAMU is most definitely the BEST among HBCU's. But I believe FAMU can do much more for it's students. Finally, there is no other place that will give you the home feeling like FAMU and Tallahassee. The city is not just academics. You get a great band, many organizations, fraternities/sororities, the capital at your door steps and just hours away from Atlanta, Orlando, Jacksonville, and Panama City. I had family and friends who attended FAMU so it was definitely on the top of my list of schools to consider. In high school I went on a historically black college tour which ultimately made me choose FAMU. I visited 12 different HBCU's and I knew FAMU was the place for me. Florida A&M University has a deep and rooted history of producing African American Doctors, Lawyers, Teachers, Nurses, Business Owners, Politicians and many other professionals throughout its 129 years in existence. I believe around 85% of black pharmacists in Florida attended FAMU. This university produces excellence. There are extremely competitive academic programs in engineering, business, pharmacy, journalism and nursing. FAMU is a place of opportunity. Students who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to attend a 4 year institution are able to. The combination of students with varying academic skill levels creates such a unique environment. One that I am proud to have been a part of. Being the largest HBCU in the country the networking opportunities are endless. Like any other institution it has its challenges but if you are determined to succeed you will. From Academics to the Marching Band, Student Government, Greek Life and numerous student organizations social and professional - endless opportunities. Numerous improvements have been made from additional on campus housing options to campus eateries and extended library hours. The College of Love and Charity (as it is sometimes referred to) changed my life and if you're considering attending it can change yours. read more

Before I say anything please look into FAMU School of Nursing 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 NCLEX first-time pass rates. FAMU SON was on probation for 2 years for a reason. Also, look into how many deans we've had. Nobody is willing to stay and fix this disastrous nursing program. But I don't blame them. This program is beyond repair. You will be horrified. The disorganization, lack of communication, and poor curriculum design are only a few reasons why you should pursue your nursing career elsewhere. The education and clinical rotations are of poor quality. Nursing school is hard, but attending FAMU's Nursing School makes it 10x worse. I encourage you to talk to current FAMU nursing students and I'm more than sure they will tell you about how they're suffering in this program. Students have been begging for change and it falls on deaf ears. But the administration doesn't care, because, at the end of the day, they have already pocketed our money. I encourage more nursing students past and present to leave reviews on their opinions of the program. Please whatever you do. Do not attend this nursing school. You will regret it. read more

College of love and charity! I love this place and have been in love since the first day I stepped on this campus (summer of 2000). This is the Mecca of HBCU's and can't nobody put a price on the experience that comes with the name and time that passes here. My son graduated today Summa Cum Laude from Florida A &M. He has transformed academically and in many other ways. During his time there, We had our frustrations and dealt with the media storm surrounding the Robert Champion tragedy. I think the Champion situation sparked numerous positive changes on campus and my son benefited. He's headed on to even greater things and a bright future thanks to FAMU. Not where they use to be but a big improvement. I liked how they gave the university a face lift but it still doesn't hide the enteral problems. Like i stated before the university as a whole has improved. Parking can be a problem especially since the gravel and parking lot behind it is the primary parking area it's far from a lot of classes. I just recently returned to the university to accompany my sister for her 3 day orientation with the school of Pharmacy at FAMU. I must say that the administration has improved and I knew I needed to post an updated review regarding my recent experience. I want to personally thank Mr Norton in the school of pharmacy and Mrs. Oneal and Ms Rose in the office of recruitment and scholarships, also Ms. Jones in the housing office. These particular employees are awesome, they went the extra mile or should I say the extra several miles to assist my sister and I in completing all of her necessary requirements for each dept and even assisted with finding additional funding options for her tuition and fees. The school does have alot more options to offer students and since my son started last year they have made several improvements and additions to the campus. They have and are still renovating different resident halls and made top of the line additons to the recreation center. I can truly say that as a parent I am proud of the success and constant improvements they are making and I can honestly say that our money is being spent wisely, I can definitely see where and how it is being applied back into the university. However, the financial aid staff still have a milestone to go in improving their attitudes and the way they actually handle students in person and the over the phone. I would definitely advise everyone to always make copies of anything submitted and keep for your personal records to eliminate some of the frustration on your part because they will loose it, but hey you can have that problem with any college or university. Overall, FAMU is still a great school in my book and is still one of the best HBCUs in the nation! read more

Horrible administration, yes. Unfortunately I've learned that is an epidemic at many institutions of higher learning. I wouldn't however trade what I've learned, the people I've met, and experiences shared for anything. I won't let the mishaps of the financial aid office or other administrative errors (and trust me there were many) stop me from recommending this school to others. FAMU has one the best business programs, engineering programs, and pharmacy programs in the country. The traditions and prestige among HBCUs is second to none. The best marching band on the planet to boot. I've lived in many cities throughout my life and have been on many campuses and none compare to the feeling of Fam. That feeling of being home. That feeling of knowing that you're walking the same steps of some of the most successful Black Americans in the country. My friendships and memories that FAMU has provided me won't be diminished because of a poor administration. I recommend FAMU to anyone. You may not take any lumps from the administration (highly unlikely) but if you do and you survive to tell about it, you'll be stronger for it. FAMU GRAD 07 read more
