Floriditas was a place I found on google reviews when traveling to New Zealand. It looked delicious for brunch so we arrived on a weekday morning and were seated properly. When checking out the menu I ordered the green smoothie and the French toast. When our food arrived, they actually brought out a different dish however I told them I ordered the French toast they were extremely apologetic. It seemed to be a little of language barrier with accents. The French toast was delicious- it was warm and comforting, the topping was crunchy but strawberry mousse was smooth. Consistently great. A 'go to' brunch location in Wellington which has been around for a long time but never seems dated. A good selection on menu, the eggs are always organic and fresh. I also appreciate that if you ask for hard poached they do it well. The coffee is amazing. You cannot book brunch at weekends so it's a bit of a gamble if you're a bigger group. Whenever I've been here as 2-4 group we are seated immediately or within a few minutes; a bigger group could take longer. We ordered a Fish Pie and a Pan fried Fish plates. Wow. What a pleasant surprise. Even the salads we're outstanding ! The pan fried (white, fresh caught Tarakihi) was cooked to perfection tender, moist topped with a bit of butter sauce. Very, very tasty and delightful ! I might be unfair in my rating to this place cause I was planning to eat lunch and most of the menu were egg choices. They serve brunch till 3pm on Saturdays. I went with poached eggs with avocado, zaater and broccoli it was good but nothing special. They didn't have enough variety for a lunch menu hence the low rating. I came here for brunch and had a great time. First of all, props to them for being open on ANZAC day. Second, my dish, the fish pie, blew me away. I'd never had anything like it, because it's just not a thing back home. It was so filling and tasty! Also loved my latte. Not too bitter, and super smooth. My friends all loved what they got, too. Loved their breakfast. I got the poached eggs with avocado, rocket leaves, hollandaise sauce on toast Their toast and baked sweets looked amazing. In hindsight I might have gotten the asparagus instead of rocket leaves (like arugula) The mocha came with a yummy marshmallow. The orange juice was fresh and sweet I tried eating elsewhere the next day and just wished that I was here. The second place was a coffee shop where I ordered basically the same thing here and was presented with something of much lesser quality. Oh. Yes. With a seemingly endless array of cafe and subsequently delicious local food opportunities in Wellington, picking a breakfast spot proved to be a nearly impossible task. But as the "yelping person" of the group (you *all* know what I'm talking about) I was nominated to make the call. Floriditas didn't let me down. It's not quite Paris, not quite New Orleans, but with copious fleur-de-lis theming and gleaming white tiles shinier than Lil Wayne's grill, there are many times you could nearly be transported. The meal highlight for me was definitely the poached eggs with grilled asparagus and a hearty dose of their absolutely dreamy hollandaise. That said, one of my tablemates ordered the potato hash with mackerel and poached egg which was also fantastic. And while it sounds simple, I was blown away by a freshly baked scone with their homemade jam. It seems like the type of establishment that would only get sexier throughout the evening, but I'd highly recommend getting their for an early morning brekkie before exploring Wellington. We stumbled across Floriditas early on a Saturday morning and it was already busy inside. A sure sign that it would be worth popping in. While perusing the menu I can't say anything really jumped out at me. They offer an unimaginative but classic brunch menu. Poached eggs, ham, bacon, granola. All you'd expect but nothing much more really. I decided to go for the bacon and egg bap. Sometimes the best way to judge a restaurant is by trying the classics. At $15 I was a little put off by the price, but when I'm in the mood for a bacon sandwich, nothing can get in my way. The service was prompt and polite and soon my bacon sandwich arrived. I must admit I was immediately disappointed by the presentation. When you pay $15 for a sandwich you expect...a little more than just a sandwich. Maybe some salad on the side, maybe a couple of crisps, dare I say it - some fries? This sandwich though was just placed directly in the middle of the plate. It looked a little sad and pathetic. A small spot of grease lay to its side, a bad omen. Biting into the sandwich I was even more disappointed. I didn't think it was possible to fuck up a bacon sandwich, but I guess I was wrong. The bacon and egg were dripping in oil and the bacon wasn't the slightest bit crispy. The bread was the shining star...which says more about how crap the bacon was than anything else. I washed down the remnants of my breakfast with a tea, served in some lovely China. The type your grandma would have. But not even the flowery aroma of my Earl Grey could take away the taste of disappointment from my mouth. read more

Wow, oh wow, the fish pie is gorgeous! Local fresh fish, tarakihi, in a cream sauce, baked in a ramekin topped with buttered bread crumbs, delicious, decadent, flavorful. Served with a side salad of various local greens with a light lemon dressing and bits of lemon zest. I enjoyed a glass of NZ sauv blanc, followed by apple, rhubarb, pomegranate crumble served with vanilla ice cream. I ordered the pea tendril salad with shaved asparagus, buffalo mozzarella and green olive vinaigrette to start. I was very impressed with this dish, not only was it a work of art, it was chocked full of bright flavor as well. For my main, I had the pan seared Groper with peas and a red quinoa salad. The fish was pretty simple and cooked perfectly. And then came dessert - Affagato with vanilla bean ice cream and a shot each of espresso AND amaretto. Oh my it was intoxicating, the rich flavors of both the espresso and amaretto came to me as a one-two punch of caffeine and liquor.... whoa!
