The land was bought from George Earle (one of the founding fathers of the town) for $1.00. The bricks were locally made. The doors opened up on January 13, 1876. One hundred and forty years (140 years!) later, the same building still houses the same congregation it did when it opened its doors. The bricks of the Sanctuary are original along with the pews and choir balcony are still intact. The church landed on the National Registry September 9, 1999.
