My girls (then freshly 5 and 6) started with a summer intensive. Two weeks - 10 minute lessons for each of them. We got two sessions in, and I couldn't believe the improvements from my little mermaids!! We're in the regular weekly lessons now and absolutely love going. Everyone is so friendly!! Coach Shannon is wonderful. The facility is always super clean, and you can tell there's a lot of care taken in maintaining everything. I signed my boys up for lessons because the reviews were high. Flow Aquatics did not disappoint. Communication has been excellent, service is excellent and Piper is awesome! Our kids are normally very shy but felt very comfortable with Piper during their first lesson. I was highly impressed with her ability to engage with them so quickly and earn their trust in the water. I'm so happy that we decided to sign up with Flow Aquatics. I am so thankful to have a safe physical activity for my kids to attend during the pandemic. With most of their activities either closed or at places I don't feel safe attending during this time, I am so grateful for Flow. The safety protocols they have implemented are excellent. Both my children have taken classes at Flow since 6 mo. old. I love the short and very specific instruction given in lessons. They have a plan for each child and skills to progress through. It is very effective! As a 2nd grade teacher I see some of the same things at Flow that I know are effective in learning; clear and specific instruction, quality teachers, and a planned progression of skills. read more

My kids do swimming lessons here every week since July of 2016. I heard great things about this place before coming. I've never really tried any other swimming places except the one close to us long time ago with my first born where he had intensive swimming so I can't really do a comparison. I like that they do briefing before you sign up, showing the facility, the ins & outs, basically about the establishment, the people they have, what they do & so on. You needed to pay a deposit & I believe you wont be able to get it back if you won't pursue going. I like that they are organized. They have passport they call it for each child, basically to track kids improvement. They use it going in & out. They also have bracelets for each stages. Teachers focuses one on one with 3-4 kids per teacher/coach. So it really depends on how your kids do well before they move up. Though with my son, it's almost a year & he haven't moved up still. He was on stage 2 coming in & right now he is still in Stage 2/3. I like that they have make up classes. So if you miss a class, just find a make up class that fits your kid. I believe you can only have 3 make ups & be used within 3 months. You usually can do everything online, make up, schedule change, withdrawal etc. I wanted to pull them out this summer just cause we can do swimming somewhere for free lol but I heard getting back & finding a schedule for them together is hard, they have too many people on the wait list. The BEST swimming classes in town! Well, this is the only swimming "school" I know of in town. Their goal is not just to teach kids how to simply swim. It's about teaching little babies to feel comfortable with water, also teaching kids the danger of the water, teaching them how to be safe in water, teaching them how to swim (of course), and how to be also competitive. I used to take my son to YMCA Aqua center when he was only 6 months old. The ratio of the class was 1:12, and it was fun without getting anything out of the program. Yes, it was more of "playing" at that age. But FLOW Aquatics offered way more than just "playing" around. Not to mention the ratio was 1:4-6 for that age group. Depending on each child's comfort level, a coach nudges the little one just a little to do more. Their philosophy encourages ALL children. Over the years (with having now two kiddos in the program), I have been watching some timid children growing out of their comfort zone and becoming fish in the water! From someone who learned swimming rather at later age, I find it FASCINATING and very touching to see little ones growing to be so confident. Now my son is 6 years old. He is still in the program and will continue to be in FLOW Aquatics. He can swim and float at the 6ft deep end very comfortably. My 3-year old girl can float and reach for the shore while swimming for about 10 seconds. When I took her to an indoor swimming pool a couple of weeks ago, everyone around us was so shocked because she kept wanting to dive in. She kept wanting to go under water and kick! Simply amazing to see this little tiny thing dunking her head under water and kicking her little feet!! Having said all this, if you are just focusing on teaching your child how to swim in one summer, this may not be a place for you. But if you want your child to learn many aspect of "water" and "swimming" over time, this is the PERFECT place for you. I know my kids are going to be my life savers when/if I'm in trouble in water. This place is wonderful. Coaches love the kids and it seems that they love their job. My kid has so much fun in her classes and she is already so comfortable in the water. She is now 1yrs old and been going to regular weekly classes since she was 8months old. Highly recommended. The one star is for labor pains of getting in to the class. You have to pay $25 to be added to yearly round classes waitlist that takes about 6 months. Then, finding the time and spot that works for you while they try their best to find you a spot at your requested time. Then, endless information about so many rules and how things are done. But all is worth it once you are in. You learn as you go and if not, they help you get there. Very welcoming and kind to kids staff. Lovely place. read more

I have been coached by Shannon and Mark for three winters and can notice a big difference. Swimming is a complicated sport involving a wide variety of muscles and movements. These coaches explain that the highly skilled swimmer slips or flows through the water rather than thrashing it. In short, the water stays in one place and the swimmer slips through it without much effort. You have a choice; you can just keep on struggling and fighting the water or you can flow through the water. It is up to you. Both my daughters have been going to Flow for about 6 months- one started at 18 months, the other at 3.5. Although scheduling was a nightmare, I am happy with our choice. I took both kids separate nights for about three months before they were moved to the same night and time. My now 4 year old is very pool smart following the lessons, can jump in off the side of the pool and swimming to the wall by herself. She hated putting her face in the water and now does it with no problem and eyes open. She also enjoys diving under water for toys. My now 2 year old turns heads. She too can jump in the pool and swim to the edge by herself. She also loves being underwater and enjoys diving for toys. She can propel herself underwater for over 10 seconds and currently is working on rolling over onto her back if she gets tired. My only complaint is that they don't give you much info if you want to work with your child outside of lessons. They have a passport book with skills the kiddos will accomplish but some terms are confusing and not sure how to help my child with them. Overall, good swim school teaching children water safety and being comfortable in water. read more

Flow is AMAZING. My 5 year old twins have been taking lessons and I just can not believe how much they have learned. They have had lesson's with other organizations and they taught them lost of "games' but not really how to swim. My son is now comfortable in the water where he wouldn't even get his face wet before attending Flow. I've watched the coaches interact with children of all developmental abilities and have been impressed in how they work with the different abilities. Scheduling can be challenging but it's because they are that good and in such demand. The wait is completely worth it! read more

Flow has forgotten who its audience is and has made it a terrible process for the customers paying them $$ -- the parents. It took 6 weeks of various activities only to find out they don't have a spot for either of my kids. No other kids activity has a signup process like this. It started with an extensive two-part online form that had to be submitted. First part is all about the child's swim experience, second part is all these signatures parents are to provide to acknowledge understanding of rules, policies, makeups, and the like. You also have to put down $25 deposit per child. The next available "evaluation" session was almost 4 weeks out. and you have to pay for it: $10 of your $25 goes to that and is nonrefundable. You have to sit through a 30m orientation -- during most toddlers/preschoolers lunch/nap time -- that repeats everything you read and signed in the form. They are drilling this home and you haven't even agreed to give them your business yet. And you have to do it with your kids in a tiny room. Then, the evaluation. Flow took all the older kids first, making all the 2-5 yos (who are less patient) have to sit and wait yet another 20 minutes. Then, the evaluation starts from scratch. The evaluators did not review the first form I filled out that detailed my children's skill levels. they started from ground zero, making it very boring and "babyish", according to my 5yo. After all that, they asked for two weeks to see where they could place my child. Then, No word for that entire time frame, so I called to cancel our spots on the waiting list during that third week post eval and ask for our refund and Ilse was so defensive and rude. She asked me why I was canceling and as I started to share my feedback, she cut me off to start defending the company's approach... and blamed me for only offering Saturday times. And even she realized her behavior, because I got a call back later that afternoon with a much more pleasant tone. Then, a week later I got an email... instead of processing my refund the week prior, she tried to find availability for my children. Maddening. I called up a competitor who I was considering previously before giving Flow a try, and in one phone call, they understood my children's skill levels, what class we should start them with, first class is free, and we were there swimming within two weeks. I don't understand why Flow is so red-tape... but I can't believe all the hoops they put parents through. One of my kids left their swimsuit there during the evaluation so when I called the next morning to see if I could pick it up, they found it in the lost-and-found for me but told me they are "out of the pool until 3:30 p.m." What does that mean? Is the pool closed for lessons vs. is the whole facility closed? even their language leads to confusion. A lot of businesses are closed on Sundays in Boise, but if Saturday waiting lists are that long at Flow, for those families with two working parents, opening up more Saturday classes or opening up on Sundays could possibly eliminate their wait list and open up new revenue streams. FLOW Aquatics is great! I want my kids to be strong, lifelong swimmers and I feel that they are getting a great foundation at FLOW. I love the emphasis on safety and building confidence in the water.....not just learning a bunch of strokes. That was what I learned as a kid and while I can swim, I am not very comfortable in the water and wish I was a much stronger swimmer. The coaches are great, like all good educators they continue to build on their own skills by going to conferences and have a lot of different ideas for helping my kids keep progressing! read more

My oldest child, who just turned 8 years old, started classes here when he was just 3. I didn't understand it at the time, but he has some problems with sensory processing that were causing him to always be very reluctant to try anything new that required any kind of physical coordination. He was not confident in his own body's ability to function as other people's do. The coaches (Shannon and Amber) have always been wonderful with him. They are patient, reassuring, and firm. His lessons here have been a great supplement to his official therapies and have helped him gain confidence. At one point there was a little boy in his class who had autism and Amber also handled him with great finesse. We've been gone for about a year now, but will be coming back soon. read more
