TL;DR: Jenn is fantastic…read more I went back and forth about whether I might need a doula for my birth. I had decided I probably didn't need one, but then about three weeks before my due date I completely changed my mind and was really worried about whether I'd be able to find anyone on such short notice. I was really lucky to touch base with Jenn and engage her for my birth. She was quick to set up a time with me so we could talk about me, my birth goals, and in general what I could expect as I welcomed my first and long-awaited child into the world in July 2023. When I found that my baby had moved to a breech position, I let her know since that posed some potential changes and challenges and we discussed those options a little more in depth so I could wrap my head around them. She also helped me practice some various positions that some swear by to help the baby turn. Because of the breech presentation I had to schedule a c-section but was glad to have Jenn on my team as both someone who has seen more births than me and as someone who's experienced a c-section herself. She was out of town for a couple days prior to my birth but was still available to me if I needed anything from her. She offered to drive me to the hospital the day of my c-section, which is an offer I took her up on and my mom and significant other came to the hospital a bit later. In the lead-up to my c-section Jenn made sure to share my birth plan with the doctor and nurse. She made sure everyone wore masks per my request. And whilst I was actually having the c-section, she spoke with me, played some music when I asked, and kept me calm. I was not terribly scared of the procedure but more a bit unnerved about being conscious whilst I was being cut into, so those actions helped. And when my baby was born (a girl, which upon hearing made me exclaim "Yay, Im so glad!"), she took photos, brought the baby to me for cheek to cheek contact as soon as possible and skin to skin as well. She stayed with me through recovery, helped my daughter latch for her first feed, and remained with me until they brought me up to my room. Whilst my daughter and I were in the hospital, Jenn checked in with me by text several times to check on how we were doing and offer support. I'm 11 days postpartum now and we'll be setting up a postpartum visit soon. I'm really grateful to have had Jenn's knowledge and support, even if for such a short time given my procrastination. I hope I'll be pregnant again soon and will contact Jenn again for her services--just earlier this time!

Throughout my pregnancy, they provided incredible guidance and referrals for OBs/Midwives, hospitals/birth centers, pelvic floor therapists, and lactation support. When I had some slight concerns come up during my pregnancy, they helped me through it and made me feel more at ease. We had multiple check-ins, and by the time I went into labor, I felt completely comfortable and supported. Because of Amber and Rebekkah, I was able to labor at home as long as possible and achieve an unmedicated birth- I was already 8 cm dilated when I arrived at the hospital. When they arrived at my home during labor, they immediately helped calm me and get into more comfortable positions, which made all the difference. The main reason was she was so down to earth that I knew she could get along with my fiesty husband and take charge at the same time if something was to go wrong. We also liked the fact that she could still come along with us if we had to go to the hospital to give birth. We were impressed and comforted by her great amount of expertise which we learned from taking one of her child birth classes. The day of the birth we called Sam at 2 am and she comforted our anxiety and asked us questions that would help her understand how far we were. As the labor progressed she came over and gave me little exercises like going up and down the stairs and swaying my hips to help move the baby around. She was the one who passed along the info to our midwife of how far along I was. My midwife came over and 30 minutes later we gave birth to our son. Sam was there adjusting my pillow, helping me drink water, and encouraging me while I pushed. After the birth, she checked on us frequently and gave us tidbit of info to help that we still use today. I would recommend Sam to anyone whether home birth or hospital birth to have by your side. We will use her again in the future and wouldn't think to go elsewhere!

I…read morecan honestly say that had it not been for Samantha...despite my best intentions...I would not have had a natural childbirth. Although my labor was relatively short for a first-born, it was very intense and happened somewhat suddenly. Within an hour of me calling her to let her know I needed her, she was at my home and helping me work my way through it. The biggest challenge for me was fear, and she had a number of different techniques to keep me focused and relatively composed. Also, she incorporated my fiance into everything as well. It was such an amazing experience for him as well. By time we reached the hospital, I was fully dilated and our son was born just two hours later. Without Samantha, I would have given up and gone to the hospital much sooner and probably given in to getting an epidural. In case you have any doubt about whether you should go natural or not, within 15 minutes of giving birth I was up and walking around. My recovery time was quite short, which allowed me precious additional time to get to know my baby and adjust to my new life as a mommy. She was wonderful from start to finish, and I couldn't be happier with how things turned out. Thank you, Samantha!

They were responsive and friendly when we checked in on our placement a couple of times. This review is for our two doulas, Daisy (reviewed below) and Caley (reviewed at Pure Beginnings Birth, also on yelp). Daisy has a lovely, soothing personality and is an excellent communicator. She arrived at the hospital promptly, about ten minutes after we did. Such relief when she walked in! All in all, she ended up sticking out an overnight, sixteen hour labor with us (midnight to 4PM!). She must have been exhausted, but it didn't show at all. She had to take a brief conference call for work (I believe she has a full time job in addition to volunteering as a doula), but it in no way interfered with our labor and she was super upfront and gave us plenty of notice before hand. She also communicated to us with plenty of notice that our back up doula (Caley - also lovely!) would be relieving her around 4-5PM. From both a practical and emotional standpoint, our doulas' services were the best $200 I've ever spent. Seriously. We live on an extremely limited (student) budget, and paying $200 still hurt, but it was *so* unbelievably worth it and we felt so fortunate that we were able to pay on a sliding scale. Daisy allowed me to focus on being the best support person I could be, rather than trying to juggle multiple roles at once (e.g. support person + pestering the midwife with our questions, asking the nurses for things, figuring out the layout of the L&D floor, finding/getting ice and water, making runs to the cafeteria, etc). Daisy was so supportive and competent, and I felt so grateful that she took care of all the miscellany so that I could be present in the moment (and take a couple quick naps/snack breaks while she filled in as primary support person for my wife).
