I had the most bizarre and insulting customer service experience at Floyd's 99 in Woburn. I came to my appointment on time, and when I was taken to my seat the stylist said she had to cancel the appointment. Intentionally having me come in to tell me the appointment is canceled when they could have called me is blatantly disrespectful and bad business practice. I had made the appointment two days before and was sent a confirmation email and text, which I replied yes to and confirmed a day beforehand. To add insult to injury, when the stylist was asked why she didn't call me to cancel, she claimed she wanted to be respectful and tell me in person! Take your business elsewhere. Reply to business manager: The appointment could have been cancelled beforehand, and there were ample opportunities to do so, including when I checked in at the frontdesk. I was told that it was "more respectful to tell me in person". Why disrespect my time and make me come in, wait 10 minutes, and then sit me in the barber chair to tell me that my appointment is cancelled? It's simply bad business practice. read more

Mikayla (sp?) cut my son's hair and mine too. My son (3 yrs) came into Floyds with a botched haircut from a month or so ago and she did a good job of fixing it. I was very happy with my haircut as well. She clearly knew what she was doing and took pride in her work. They lose one star because I had a reservation and still had to wait 10-15 minutes. I also think they are slightly overpriced, but it seems like all hair places have gotten crazy with their prices lately. read more

I really needed a haircut on a Monday so I took a chance. Their website says that they do women's hair also. When I walked in I was a little skeptical, it's definitely a man's world. I was desperate though and I'm glad I stayed. My stylist was Tammy and she was awesome! Friendly, professional and attentive. The shampoo was the best head massage you could dream of and she put a heated moist towel on my eyes and face which was heavenly. Seriously don't judge this book by its cover. So my son got a cut today from Kevin and it was the most horrific cut. It is a bowl cut when he asked for a trim. Also he used the buzz razor on the back of his neck ended up giving him a razor burn. I don't know how hard it is to give a good haircut. Absolutely shouldn't have paid for it and definately no tip. I would like someone to follow up with me from Floyd's. This is unacceptable, I also wanted to add that they did refund the haircut but didn't believe it was their responsibility to pay for him getting it fixed. I've been accompanying my brother here since the last time he visited. The space was spotless and bright. When we enter through the door, the entire staff is warm and welcoming and makes me feel at home. The hairdresser for my brother was great! It makes sense why he continues returning here. I dropped in today with my lady while she got a great cut and style, I went in for a buzz, beard shaping, and a hot shave. While the barber was very personable he clearly hadn't done many beards. This past year I've been making a point to go to a barber to get a hot shave and beard maitanace. I've been growing my beard out since July and had it shaped a couple times since then and finally decided to get it done again and try some place new. We landed here after nearly 280 miles in 24 hrs on our way to a party neat by. The buzz cut came out fine but the beard shaping was a mess- set me back at least 4 months and I had to have my regular guy fix it. The hot shave started out better then it ended. I went in rocking the two day stubble and came out with blood on my collar and scabs forming from now patches of missing skin. I did buy some nice smelling overpriced vanilla scented beard oil. $24 shave $18 buzz cut $22 beard oil. Never going back PRICELESS. My suggestion if you want a hair cut this place is probably it. If you are looking for a quality experienced barber try something else. Best of luck- at least it grows back... read more

Although I had got a decent haircut here before, I recently had the worst haircut in my life from a pothead working here. I told the guy that I wanted a tapered crew cut with a fading back/ Pretty standard and easy, right? No! The guy had clearly not listened to me so he gave me the worst crew cut (not tapered) ever. I look like I cut my hair myself now. He just used the buzzer for sides and back straightforward, and used scissors for about 3 minutes on top. He was finished in about 10-12 minutes. So, if you're gonna go there for a haircut, just make sure that the barber understands you perfectly. If he/she just nods along, repeat yourself to make sure. read more

When I saw this place being built out, I figured "Floyd's" would be an homage to the old-timey barbershop a la "The Andy Griffith Show", but in that slightly-annoying ironic way the youth of today have. I have been going to a Hair Cuttery located just up the street for a few years, with somewhat mixed results, so I figured I would give this place a shot the next time I needed a cut. Well, it ain't NOTHIN' like Mayberry or anything else retro on the inside. One wall is painted with rock album covers and has a bank of flat-screen TVs, they play loud pop radio, and all the fixtures are black and chrome. As I sat down to wait, I was afraid I had made a big mistake. The stylist who did my hair, though, was friendly and not at all "I'm too cool for you". I got a refreshing shampoo and hot towel, a shoulder rub, the best haircut I have had in a while, and she also fixed up my beard and mustache. I was very pleasantly surprised. Sadly, the price for all this was three times as much as I pay at the other place, so I don't know if I can afford to make it my regular hair place given my budget, but I would go back and would recommend it to others. read more

This place and particularly my stylist, Megg are phenomenal. I measure it by 2 criteria: How do I look. How was the experience. The look was second to none. I've been to designer salons on Newbury St. that have come highly recommended. $50+ and I look good. Floyds, $25 and I look just as good. My wait has been reasonably short. The staff at the desk friendly and competent. I like the attention to detail, Megg, is personable, intelligent, easy to talk to. She answers my questions about the services Floyds provides without constantly trying to "up-sell". I can't recommend Floyds and Megg highly enough! read more

I am ashamed to admit I drove here after a 45-60 minute wait time at Snip It's to get my sons haircut. I loved it. No wait, friendly staff, cool vibe and a really great super cool hipster haircut for my son. I told the stylist that I liked his hair on the boyish shaggy side and she totally got what I wanted. She took extra care as if he was a full paying adult. She didn't rush and made sure all sides were even and clean. We will definitely be going back. Don't go to Snip It's. Today I took a leap of faith going to Floyd's 99 with my two kids. I normally do not go to these types of places. I got booked with Ryan A, and am now up at 3:30 looking in the mirror like what did this guy do to my HEAD! I asked for a simple SIMPLE tapper/blow out, and this dude done gave me a high n Tight! Smh !! I told him at the beginning I was growing my hair out. I told him at the end I wish he left more in the sides and didn't go so high and his excuse was " I wasn't sure how you wanted it blended " I am just at a loss for words right now honestly. I happened into this place accidently one day, and now I drive through traffic from Boston specifically to come to Woburn... and now I will only go to one person. "Gail". She spent time listening to my vague description of how I wanted my hair, tried a couple things and we finally came to an agreement as to how to cut it. Gail spent a lot of time carefully styling and cutting. She was fun and interesting to talk to and INCREDIBLY easy on the eyes - if that's your kind of thing! Then came the magical part. The haircut was great, but the following shampoo was.. dare I say... PERFECT? She massaged, she rubbed and she did everything oh so right. Okay - so I'm going to try to make this a little more of a review and a little less of a soft core porn. Spend the money on the shampoo is what I'm saying. The place is hip and fun, the music good and every gorgeous flat screen TV in the joint tuned to ESPN sports center. The barbers are skilled, the reception friendly and I have never had more than a 15 minute wait - which given the atmosphere is not a bad thing at all. A new barber (Steve maybe?) cut my hair and did a great job, he had only been working there a few days. Great decor. Terrible hair cut. My 16 yr old son had a haircut from Donna W. She cut his hair and at the end of the cut he asked her to cut the sides shorter. She said "I already cut the sides shorter," and ended the appointment. After we left we realized that one side of his hair above his ear was longer than the other side. And the back was uneven as well. Worst hair cut in a long time. We will go somewhere else to fix his hair. read more

This review is not for the faint of heart so if you are easily insulted...or you work at Floyd's you might want to stop reading now. I just "experienced" Floyd's. WWWHHHHAAAAT?? This was flat out the worst experience with a hair cut I've ever had. I was speechless. I paid, walked out and will never be going back again. I stopped by Floyd's about a week ago before I needed a cut to see what they were all about. They told me that if I want a straight razor neck shave I should request a barber and that the back rub I would get with a cut would be phenomenal. I called this morning, made an appointment and requested a barber. I got there a little early and they had no clue who I was because I didn't request a specific person to cut my hair. How could I??? I had never been there before. They shushed me off to the side but I didn't have to wait long. Now to the butchering.....I mean cut. First off, I know that it's not required but a little conversation would be nice while sitting in the chair. I didn't even get this guy's name, that's how much he didn't talk. He asked how I wanted my hair cut, yawned while I was answering him and that was it (he yawned a total of 4 times during my hair cut). He then proceeded to dig into my skull with clippers like he was trying to cut my hair at the root. He literally pulled my head one way while jamming the clippers in the opposite direction. I didn't know Helga's House of Pain was giving out barber licenses these days. I'm not sure how but he squeezed in a scissor cut on the top too. I blinked my eyes and suddenly was covered in hair clippings and he was taking the apron off me and sending me on my way. Didn't even ask how I liked it or if I was happy with it. Again...WHHHHAAATTT??? There was no alleged back rub (not that I wanted one from him but..), there was no straight razor to the back of my neck and he didn't even have the decency to clean me off. I got home and needed a shower and a hug. I basically paid $30 to be bullied for 10 minutes. If that's your thing Floyd's is the place for you. I seriously cannot believe I just paid for that. I honestly have more to say but this review is too long as it is. All I can say is STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!! p.s. It all begins with a front desk clerk with a bad attitude and then a $25 cut that last no more than 5 or 10 minutes. For just a few bucks more, State Street barbers offesr a 30-45 minute haircut in a relaxing, professional environment. Even my local hole-the-wall barber in Westwood spends more time and gives me a great haircut with much more attention to detail for $15. This place is a ripoff. I started going to Floyd's in 2007, when I lived in Denver. I generally thought it was a good value and enjoyed the experience. A few weeks ago I visited the Woburn location and received the worst cut of my life. I have fairly long hair for a guy, but in the past it never seemed to be an issue for any of Floyd's stylists/barbers who cut it. This time I was waited on by Chris W, who is listed as a barber. Immediately he appeared confused as he tried to figure out how to cut my hair. I asked for him simply to take an inch off the length. What followed, in between his rapping along to the music and admonishing of certain artists (at one point he muttered, "shut up Kanye"), was a muddled trial and error of how best to hold back part of my hair while cutting the rest. I've asked for a similar cut in the past and had it taken care of in less than 15 minutes. He took more than twice as long and ended up cutting way more than I asked. He also was very sloppy and left my hair uneven. In fact, after getting home and taking a shower, it became evident how uneven and awful the cut was. I had to spend time cutting it just to get rid of the uneven strands throughout the sides and back. I'd love to know what criteria they use for hiring. I've addressed the issue with their corporate office, which, up to this point, has not responded. I will never use this facility again and I caution others against it as well - especially if seeing Chrs W. read more
