Bergen took accurate measurements and did the necessary calculations. In this inflated economy, I didn't mind paying the asking price because I knew I was going to get a good quality repair and paint job. A few months later, the house was pressure washed. DJ and John were very diligent with ensuring the mildew on the fascia boards located on the roof were cleaned--and they delivered! I inspected all around the house and the house was cleaned to my expectation. Two weeks later, father and son carpenters Mick and Jones worked very hard to replace the dry rotted T1-11 siding boards. Each of the panels are 9' x 4', and the repairs warranted 5 panels. Dry rot existed on the chimney box siding, and sidings by the kitchen and back of the house. Mick and Jones are very skilled carpenters, and they worked diligently and efficiently. I am very pleased with the repairs! A week later, the painting commenced. I was very PARTICULAR with the painters. I presented my attention to detail in a professional manner...the painters were very receptive to my requests. I met with lead painter, German and communicated to him the fine details and personal touches I wanted to be done. German, Miguel, Pascual and Miguel are very skilled painters. Flying Colors painted my interior a year ago. The painter did an excellent job considering it is Flying Colors policy to paint not spray interior trim and the fact that they used a rental quality paint. I had requested a high quality paint and specified I didn't want an eggshell finish. They were my highest bid and justified it by saying they were using quality products. Imagine my surprise when I went to buy some touch up paint I found out the finish was eggshell and that I didn't get the quality product I thought I had paid for. I would NEVER recommend them. If you do hire them make sure to check the products that are delivered to make sure you are getting what you paid for. read more

They are a very dishonest company. They charged 35% more than their estimate even though the scope of work did not change. They rarely answer the phone and when your call is forwarded to voice mail the mailbox is full and not accepting new messages. They do not offer a military discount. The Bad; Two employees cost Flying Colors' loss of two stars. Bergan the estimator: My wife had to deal with him. She said she didn't like him. Pushy. Told her she wanted things done she did not want done. Bergan came within a gnat's ass of costing Flying Colors the job. His technical and procedural knowledge of paint was lacking. Mike the Job Manager was also beyond bad. He did not answer his phone or return calls after I left messages. Mike was AWOL most of the time and claimed to have tried to call me back but my iPhone never recorded those alleged attempts. He was so negligent that it made it very difficult for us to have the house and yard ready for the job. When the painting actually began, Mike pulled the two painters assigned to us apart and replaced one with a much less skilled person. The replacement painter left 65+ paint spatters on our house in just one day that all needed to be covered up. The inconsistent staffing stretched the job from an expected 4-5 days out to 8 days. This extended invasion of our lives caused us substantial discomfort even though we liked John and Brandon. The delays were not their fault. The Good; Anna was positively spectacular, making up for Mike's poor work habits. I routinely zeroed out to her and she located the information I needed. DJ not only was great at pressure washing but had an amazing eye for color. He looked at the color swatches we put on the side of our house, and made a comment that immediately resolved the color selection dilemma that had vexed us for a couple of weeks. DJ needs to be promoted to color consultant. Brandon and John were the two lead painters for our job. They both were courteous, respective, punctual, professional, efficient and highly skilled at their trade. read more

The paint was looking pretty beat up on our 70-yr old house in Tacoma. Flying Colors painting gave us a very good estimate, and they were available to get started more quickly than some other companies. I can't say enough good things about the team of painters. We never hired external painters before, and we didn't realize there were so many precise details for how-to paint colors & trim. In order to have our house re-painted, the (hand dipped) cedar shingles needed to be re-stained and the contrasting trim re-painted. On a three story house, that took a great deal of care and about 20 days of work. How the shakes would respond to re-staining was anyones guess (including the painters). Due to where we live, the color had faded greatly in some places and yet in other places it hadn't faded at all. Michael and I knew the house would look better once it was finished and just asked for as consistent a look as they could get. We went with Flying Colors Painting. Around the second week of work, our property suffered a major oops at the hands of the on-site painting crew. A member of the paint company was out to the house first thing the next business day and assured us they would pay for whatever additional costs we incurred to fix the issue. And they'd take care of landscaping our yard (where the oops occurred). They said and did everything to make it right and to do the right thing. This is why they get our recommendation. Excellent painters but the cost has me thinking I should have shopped around. I went to their website and the fixed estimate for our house was far and above the examples. I thought that maybe it would be something complicated but the paint job itself only took a day and a half. The prep of the wood rot around windows were billed at an hourly rate and I understand that was extensive. If the painting had been billed hourly it would have been much cheaper. Almost $15,000 for a 2600 sq foot home that is basically straight up and down, nothing fancy. Just super spendy. read more

Over the last 20 years, when it has been house paint time, Flying Colors ("FC") has done just that for us. They stand behind their work. In the past, we had one house side that did not live up to the paint's warranty. FC came out with a paint sales rep and made it right. This week, we had 1/2 our house painted (the sun and weather sides). The job looks like a new house!. We have a tile roof and no tiles were cracked. Also, these guys are clean. By that, there were no paint flakes in the garden. Finally, I'd like to add a compliment to the painters themselves. At various points during the two days they were painting our house, they involved me letting me know what and why they were doing to our house. Get a college kid to spray your house and you get a house sprayed by a college kid. Get a house done by pro's and it will look like a professional job. I think there are different franchises for this company. I read some reviews in the Seattle area which weren't good but still wanted a bid from them since they had painted several homes in our neighborhood. Nathan Geoff was friendly and professional. He came out, gave us a very competitive bid in a timely manner. We decided to go with them and were not disappointed. We picked a date and crossed our fingers it wouldn't rain. Nathan said they'd be out to power wash and there they were. They came the day they said they would to begin painting. Small rain Delay but then they were right back at it. I have a little bit of a different review for Flying Colors Painting Co. We are new homeowners and are giving our house a face lift on a pretty tight budget. Flying Colors Painting Co came to look at our place and gave us an estimate. In the end we decided not to accept the estimate, but I really appreciated how professional and friendly Katie was. Katie listened to what we were looking for and was very thorough in her questions and making sure she had the details right. She arrived on time and had our estimate ready to go in about 15 minutes. Even though we decided to pass on the quote for now because of our budget, she was still incredibly professional and nice. I cannot say how much I appreciate this! I can't say enough good stuff about Flying Colors. First of all, they're a locally owned family business with high standards--and customer service that comes second only to doing a quality job. They're not the cheapest in town, but I would say they're probably the best you can get in the Olympia area. My maple cabinets are 25 years old, but in good shape. For my kitchen renovation project I wanted them painted white. I got several bids, and Flying Colors came in at the high end. After several discussions with Carl, their estimator, I decided I wanted an art quality, and I definitely got it. My cabinets are gorgeous, flawless, and look like they came from the factory. Aside from doing great work, Lynn and team were always on time, professional, great communicators, and skillfully did what they said they would do, plus some. I can't thank Lynn enough for her true art. Project manager Murph was helpful at trouble-shooting and behind the scenes organization--consistently upbeat, positive and hands-on when needed. I was on the scene most of the time for the in-home part of the project, and was impressed by how respectful and friendly the workers were to one another and to their company. To me, this is an excellent sign of a well managed company: if workers are happy employees, they're being treated well. When all was said and done, I think I got a bargain. My newly updated kitchen has increased the resale value of my home, and I give Flying Colors most of the credit for a successful renovation. We met with Carl a few days ago to get estimates for two exterior painting projects we wanted to complete sometime this year on our very old houses in Olympia, a rental house and our own house. He did not cancel when it was snowing on the day of our appointment which impressed me. I was even more impressed when he talked me out of doing either project with a painting company and essentially talked me out of hiring his company. He explained, in detail, how latex paint and color works on hundred year old houses and creates some of the problems I am experiencing. He explained how painting the entire house was probably unnecessary and that the issues could be addressed by cleaning, scraping and spot painting, basically keep on top of the situation and not make it worse by adding more paint. He also offered some alternatives his company could do. I don't think I have had a tradesperson talk me out of not one, but two, larger jobs while suggesting a number of alterative approaches and educating me. I did not use Flying Colors for a job. However, I am the owner of a property adjacent to someone who did use them. They left a 5-gallon bucket of paint and thinner on my property, behind their clients fence where their client could not see it. The bushes on my property were also covered with paint, which leads me to believe they dumped some of their waste on my property. My complaint is that I do not believe that they can be trusted to dispose of their chemical waste in an ethical manner. They were asked to remove the bucket full of paint thinner, but they have not done it in two weeks time. read more

Flying Colors Painting Company is the only one I will trust from now on to provide quality service and work- manship. I was forced to fire two other companies and had to back out of a third that were to paint the interior and exterior of my inherited family home. The third did other work prior that was so shoddy, I didn't trust them with my paint project. These were all personal referrals that I was assured of great work. What a joke!!! The interior was so disappointing. They painted over part of the wallpaper that they were paid to remove. They got lazy & probably didn't think I would notice. Were lazy again & did not tape off the floor boards from the walls for clean color separation and straight lines. Metal cabinet hinges, door hinges and pins were just painted over. They used old paint rollers on the cupboard doors, leaving bumpy debris. I did not allow them to finish the interior. I did not pay them the remaining 50% balance. I especially did not trust them with the exterior. I went to Yelp to search myself. No more family or friends referrals. You get taken advantage of!!! FLYING COLORS stood out with all 5 star reviews. Great from the start to the finish. Received the excellent job I needed for my 66 year old home to look beautiful and impressive. This company painted two homes for my family. They sprayed the garage without covering vents and over sprayed property inside my garage. My Harley and my Truck. It took me about 5 hours to get most of the paint off. The company reimbursed 500.00 for my trouble. Then about a year later some flaws (bubbles) began to show up on both homes painted. I contacted the company and was told that the office would call and schedule an appointment. No one ever called. Even though I was not pleased with this, I called again to allow them to come out and bid on another project and was again told that the office would schedule an appointment. Again, never called. My experience with them has not been good due to not returning calls, lack of follow through and no attempt to come out and correct flaws. read more

Carl was very detail oriented and provided us a precise estimate, as well as a range of recommendations and reasoned explanations for each. The painters (Chris, Richard, Mike and others) were extremely responsive to our questions and they offered several design options. They clearly take their craft seriously and wanted to make sure we got what we wanted in terms of colors. I considered them to be more like artists than painters because of their attention to detail. We had to work around the weather in (April and May in the PNW!), but Flying Colors was always good at communicating when and whether they'd be at the site or not.
