No dreadful contrived and boring Homes & Garden mags that nobody reads to be seen, thank god. Has a nice quirky, rural down-to-earth feel, and clearly the people who run it are proud of its history. The restaurant looked perfect, very old, one of the best I have seen. They give you for £2 a haunted tour booklet which was great, and the booklet was very enjoyable and funny in parts. Haven't tried the food, but who cares, I would eat here anyway. I will go here for a Sunday Lunch one day and it would be a nice place to stop at around Christmas time too and walk round Pluckley's footpaths afterwards. To get it completely Uber Perfick and a 5 star rating from me, they need to stock Kent Crisps (which are very tasty) and lower the music a bit as it wasn't always easy to hear my friend. Now then, down to the important stuff. If you have never been there or if your last visit was more than 18 months ago (today's date is September 2014) you are in for a real treat. Robert (chef) and Donna (joint tenant) have changed this lovely old pub into a lovely old pub serving VERY fine food in goodly portions! The menu is constantly tweaked but this was the menu when Judi and I visited for lunch bringing our friend Philip and our miniature schnauzer, Bertie (i.e. they're dog-friendly!) Portions were such that a pudding was beyond us on this occasion so next time we'll try a main and a pudding. Parking is ample and there is a large lawned beer-garden with children's play facilities at the rear and a fenced-off terrace at the front. Far too many to count…read more I was very pleasantly surprised to find a swiftly flowing stream and pub with many outdoor tables where I could sit and contemplate the nice old bridge, stream, trees, ducks and coots. Well, the ducks contemplated my bag of crisps and I watched the coots across the stream acting like real wildlife. The pub is cute, they had four cask ales on tap, and it really is a very lovely spot. So now when folks ask you, Why?, say because there's a very lovely pub there. Particularly for days when you'd like to sit outside. If you arrive by train, just cross the river and there's the pub. It wasn't crowded, but wasn't lonely. They serve meals, though not all day long. Saturday dinner had quite a few reserved tables. And the fellow at the train station said that they aren't always open every afternoon, so you might want to ring ahead to find out.

It was the only excuse I needed to pop into a pub and as I opened the door I entered a very well kept premises which had retained many of the original features of a very old building. The staff were very polite and, from what I could see, the food being served looked very appetising. So based on what I could see I booked a table for two and returned the following weekend with my better half. Again the staff were very polite and couldnt seem to be able to do enough for us within the restaurant. The food was also very enjoyable and real value for money - what more could one ask for. A year later I can still think back to how enjoyable that meal was and having booked another table for two, am looking forward to returning.
