One can see them proudly hung in local businesses and private homes throughout Richmond. Most notably: Phil's Continental Lounge, Miller and Rhoads Condominium Lobby, The 2300 Club, and many more. My experience was in purchasing some of these historic prints in order to frame then as a Christmas gift for a friends home. The prints are black and white and start out at $20.00 unframed and $60.00 framed for a 5x7 size and go up from there. Dementi was started in 1924 and is now run by the third generation. The studio also offers professional head shots, portfolios, portraits, wedding and event photography and even will rent studio space in the building should you choose to shoot your own. I am also pleased to say that they are keeping up with the times by offering on line review of photos. A portrait session I was quoted for 8 prints was $100.00 which I think was very affordable. Next time you are downtown, stop in and walk into the lobby to view all of the prints they have for sale. It is a wonderful walk though Richmond history. He told us after we got there once the young ladies in front of us were done we could connect with Bluetooth to play our own tunes while we took pictures! He gave us a flash fob for our phone so we could easily take pictures and a tripod selfie stand to help us take good photos! The couple areas we were sad about is: AC was either off or not working which made it really hot in the building because, it's a brick building it radiated heat inside. Also it was obvious a few rooms were in transition changes... which made us sad cause one room I was looking forward to was a purple room with a bike and we got there no bike. Also they had transitioned their swing room from yellow to pink which I wasn't necessarily sad about but my besties favorite color is yellow so I had hyped up this room only to not have it for our photos. So all in all I would definitely go back so I could see what new things they do with some of the rooms! And the customer service spot on! I think it would be wise if they put on their gallery photos rooms subject to change! Just so people know they may not get a certain room everytime. BUT GO HAVE FUN CHECK THEM OUT!! I'd like this place to succeed because it's…read moredifferent and fun but I think the price point is prob too high given the inconsistency of the experience. The first time we came it was on time and we loved the Dragon Tower escape room: it was the perfect mix of puzzle and action. This time we showed up 10 minutes early and they said they were running 5-10 minutes behind because of "cleaning issues". Well it turned into 20 minutes late so thankfully we already canceled our dinner reservations. I think it would've been fine if it wasn't $250 for a family of five for 38 minutes and the ninja trials escape room was not as exciting or interesting as dragon tower. Also one of the equipment pieces we were given was faulty so that made it less fun for one of us.

Pelagos VR is a fantastic addition to the area for unique entertainment, and there are so many…read moreoptions within it! Just as a quick rundown, there are three main types of VR here: the front area where you are strapped into a VR system and can run in place, a virtual escape room, and a VR action arena (large room with VR cameras on the walls and you can physically run around). I haven't tried the escape room and I liked the strap-in ones, though it's the VR arena that really elevates this place. So far I have done Patient Zero and several rounds of the Urban Assault in the arena, and it's an amazing experience. Between the excellent physical tracking, the true-recoil VR guns, and the actual movement in the real world mapping to the VR world, it is insanely immersive and easy to adapt to. It is quite exciting too: I was fortunate enough to participate in their latest tournament and it was chaotic fun from start to finish. The tournaments are a special treat because for now the entry fee is only $20 while the regular experiences run a fair bit more, so it's an insanely good deal for the amount of fun you're having. On top of the excellent experiences, I would be remiss if I didn't highlight their incredible staff. This is mostly a family-run place and it shows with how kind and personable everyone here is, with positive attitudes, a true love for what they do, and excellent mastery of VR tech and training new players. I have met the owner twice and he goes out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated for their visits. The most underrated part here is actually nothing to do with VR but actually their bar offerings: the happy hour here is every day of the week (including weekends) and you can get $4 beers (including a few local drafts) and very reasonably priced appetizers. If I were in the area and just wanted a quick beer with a friend before doing something else, I would absolutely come here for it at those fantastic prices. Since Pelagos VR is attached to the mall, there is plenty of lot parking very close by, so no issues there. Really the only drawback of this place is the price, particularly if you come by yourself or one other person as their price structure rewards larger groups. I would absolutely come here with a friend group because of that though a date night here would add up fast. I look forward to coming here again with friends, especially for the tournaments. This is one heck of an outing to look forward to! Overall: 5.0 stars ---- Pros: - Amazing and unique VR experiences, truly memorable in every way. - Multiple options, including stationary running, open arena, or escape room. - Fantastic staff who are kind, knowledgeable, and clearly happy to be there. - Excellent happy hour food deals, worth trying even without the VR. - Easy parking and access since attached to the mall. - Pricing for large groups and the tournaments are great... Cons: - ...though the cost for a small group (especially for only one or two people) is a bit prohibitive unless you have deep pockets. Their pricing is entirely reasonable given what you get for it, though this is really the only thing that keeps me from going every week. Maybe one day they'll have a membership or a punchcard pass option!

Planning a wedding has got to be in the top five more stressful things I have ever done. But you know what wasn't stressful? Every single interaction I had with Jess as my wedding photographer. At first, I was taken aback because I submitted a request on her website for more information. But instead of emailing me her run down of her offerings and prices, she asked to schedule a phone conversation. Well, as any millennial woman would think to herself "what the hell? the PHONE? Why would she need to speak to me on the godforsaken PHONE?" But I am so so so glad that I took that call. She asked me about myself, my then-fiance, how we met, what our hobbies are, what we do for work. She genuinely wanted the abridged versions of our lives. She then introduced herself and her photo-journalistic style of wedding photography. Every interaction was just as heartfelt and genuine as the first one. Jess is professional, an excellent communicator, and gives you her expert opinion when you are having trouble making decisions. And it goes without saying that her work speaks for itself. A truly talented and compassionate wedding photographer who cares deeply about capturing the happiness that is cultivated on the Big Day. I cannot recommend her enough. 13/10 would hire her again. read more

We absolutely loved working with Jess! This was our first time getting family photos and I had a lot of anxiety about the whole process. Jess made it so incredibly easy from the very beginning! She was patient and responsive to all of my questions. She shared resources and tips for planning outfits and gave lots of great recommendations for locations. She also worked with me to plan a special request of mine; recreating a portrait of me and my mother from when I was young. On the day of, she jumped right into action and made the picture-taking process so relaxed and easy. I was so worried my son would not cooperate but Jess was so great at working with him and keeping him engaged. He ended up being such a ham! The session never felt awkward and Jess let us take a more natural approach to our poses, only offering small suggestions as needed. To top it off, our portraits were stunning! When they were delivered (way earlier than expected), I spent an entire day just looking at them over and over, compeltely unable to pick a favorite. We will definitely be using Jess again for all of our portraits going forward. read more

My husband and I (ok, mostly I) wanted some maternity photos done of our first pregnancy. However, I had some serious misgivings about ending up with pictures that looked too staged, didn't reflect our personalities, or appeared really trendy. While searching local photographers, I came across Focus on Joy with Jess' natural, photojournalistic style. Jess was professional and warm. She really listened to what our goals of the experience were, and helped us achieve that look. It can be awkward to be photographed for an hour, but Jess created an atmosphere where we were able to relax and be ourselves. That allowed her to capture this moment in our lives in a meaningful, authentic way. Hiring a photographer is an investment. It's clear that Jess takes her work seriously & is dedicated to delivering a final product that meets her clients' vision. Jessica was absolutely amazing! I was excited, but also unsure, about birth photography due to the private/very personal nature of it all. But Jessica more than delivered with these pictures! She was extremely professional and was very considerate and mindful while I was in labor and giving birth, and she managed to get every picture I asked for. I was in labor for over 24 hours, and once I arrived at the birthing location Jessica promptly met us there and was up all through the night capturing the whole event. The experience was amazing and there were times when I completely forgot she was in the room, which made for a very peaceful and uninterrupted birthing experience. I'm so happy to have been put in touch with Jessica and to get all these absolutely amazing pictures to document and look back on the birth of my son. Jessica was fantastic as our photographer and took gorgeous engagement pictures! You could never tell looking at our photos, but it was literally freezing outside. She was a trooper throughout the entire shoot and was able to capture AMAZING moments between me and my fiance'. Jessica's calm demeanor helped my fiance' and I to be comfortable with each other as she took our pictures. We used her photographs for our save the date card, engagement party, and our wedding website. She also did our maternity shoot, gender reveal, and birth photographs which captured more than I could even imagine with the birth of our first child. This experience was just as wonderful, if not more! Our session this year was on this past Sunday, a super cold winter day and we were her last session of the day. We were so excited for the beautiful boho setup and my toddler couldn't wait to see Ms. Anika's horses. When we rolled up, we were greeted by her same warm smile and it felt like it hadn't been a year since we saw her. Anika instantly makes you feel comfortable, which is so refreshing! I enjoy talking to her during the session and in all of our correspondence. She started off taking some photos of my husband and son. My toddler was super distracted by Anika's kitty, which was roaming around. It was so cute, and I don't know how she still managed to get incredibly beautiful photos of him while he was so distracted, but she did. The set for this year was so beautiful, with a boho style egg chair surrounded by sparkling, lit Christmas trees and other Christmas themed decor. She got great ones of all of us sitting in the chair, of myself and my son, and of just him. Once we finished with the set, she allowed my toddler to meet her beautiful horses - and he even got to pet them! 3 days later, he is still talking about the horses on the farm and how much he loved petting them. We then took some photos in a grassy area, with the setting sun behind us providing the most beautiful golden light. All of the photos are just indescribably beautiful. It was even more special that I am pregnant this year (and showing!) so we were able to get some wonderful maternity shots. Thank you, Anika, for giving us these memories two years in a row! The studio isn't huge, but there's a back room for changing, a bathroom, and the standard drape for girl's graduation photos and suit jackets, shirts, and even bow ties for boys. We brought a number of outfits and were able to get shots of all of them. They have a number of props, backdrops, and scenery projections, which is what we were after. These guys have been in business 30 years and it shows. I think we've already found our wedding photographers!

I decided to come to Caston Studio for my professional headshot after reading many great reviews…read moreabout them. When I arrived, a partner of Mr. Caston took my photos. Afterwards, Mr. Caston had me look through the photos only once. After I commented that a couple photos looked good, he immediately began editing one of the photos without confirming which one I actually wanted to be edited. I wanted more time to look at the photos. When I asked if I can have some time to view them at home and then let him know which one I wanted to be edited, he told me it was not possible and I would have to pay extra for that. As I did not have enough time to look through the photos to pick out the one I liked the most, I had to pay an extra $110 on top of the $135 photoshoot for a USB with the rest of the photos even though I just wanted proofs. I was very unhappy with the quality of this service and Mr. Caston's attitude towards me. I wish I wasn't rushed by him and he could have offered me an option of proofs instead of charging me an extra $110 for photos. I would definitely not recommend Caston Studio.

We were not looking for formal, posed portraits for our wedding; we wanted to capture the real and spontaneous moments of the day that, to us, make it special. Rebecca does this flawlessly. Her photos capture the emotion and feeling of the moment in a really true and honest way. Because we were on a budget, Rebecca worked with us to give us a package that fit our needs at a price we could afford. She talked at length with us about what we were looking for, and made sure to get shots of details we wanted to be sure not to miss. Her professionalism was bar none, and she coordinated with other staff to ensure we got all the photos we wanted just right and without needing us to assist, so all we had to do was sit back and enjoy the day. The end result was nothing short of magical. I didn't expect to love the photos from the wedding as much as I do, but my husband and I find ourselves looking at them more often than expected just because they really capture the happiness and joy of the day in such a real way. She got photos of things I would never have remembered otherwise, and they are all so special. I look beautiful, my husband looks handsome, and all our friends and family look so happy. It's such a joy to revisit them. Needless to say, I could not recommend Rebecca enough.
